hi I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with galaga in mama? The game launches fine and I can coin up but none of the galaga roms in mame will start. I have remapped the start key in game and deleted the config in mame but cant seem to get it to work. it was working the last time I had my machine on but now nothing and all other games seems to work fine in mame. thanks

delete the galaga ini and cfg files. delete and saves or sram files.
Basically get rid of anything galaga related except the rom file itself.
-
did all that and overwrote them with the original rom I have saved on an external drive and then mapped start key to keyboard enter and still no start on any of the 5 galaga roms I have
-
ok, so make a new folder with a fresh download of MAME and copy the Galaga rom over; see if that works.
-
maybe your mapping the wrong one...
What happens when you hit 1 (after coin up)?

It's mapped right that's the only game I usually play that just stopped starting for some reason. I installed a new mame of same vesion in new folder and tried new roms and working Roms off other machine and now those say missing rom or chd files and don't even load now. Not sur what else to try except deleting all and starting new my other machine works fine with same version of Roms and mame 152

IIRC Galaga uses the Midway sound system roms which were moved to their own zip awhile back so it might be you are missing them (ie. Namco50.zip,Namco51.zip,52,53, 54, namco62.zip) Get those and see if it helps !
EDIT : I tried the midway Galaga with those removed and it shows it missing namco51 and namco54 so that could be the problem.

So do they go in their own zips within mame rom folder or with other audio zips
-
They go in the roms folder in their own zip packages -- IIRC they used to be part of the galaga zip files but were removed at some point and made into their own zip files since many different games use them so rather than have the same files inside many game zips they are in their own zips and the games look for them there.

Once I put them in the Roms folder the games boots AndI can add coin but no matter what I do the game will not start
