I got no issue with any of them. The only ones I haven't played myself are FIFA, Pokémon, and WoW, but I know they are popular.
-
Most of my huge collection of games I have not even taken the plastic wrap off. ;D
Besides this is better suited to Library of Congress than a brick and mortar affair.
-
Not much to debate, just a couple surprises.
Was FIFA really that popular? I've never seen it ranked on any top lists anywhere before. I get that soccer is more sales internationally for the sport genre, but still surprised.
Also surprised that the Sims would make it over SimCity. The sims was mostly a flash in the pan, a large flash, but I don't see many people caring about the Sims anymore. SimCity almost singlehandly made a genre.

While I too would probably pick SimCity over The Sims, The Sims is still massively popular. They're on version 4 now - I know because I had to buy it for my daughter to play. It's still going strong.

I guess I don't disagree. Clocked a lot of hours on Sims 1 and Sims 2, so did my wife. I didn't know it was still popular though. We kinda stopped caring, and most the people around me did as well. It is hard for me to gauge appeal these days, since a game series could start to suck like a toothless whore and still get a dozen more sequels. I give Sims credit for really turning the key on game expansions leading the way to DLC. On that list, I feel most of those games were smartly chosen because they were the source game for a genre or major shift in gaming, so I see the point of the Sims being on there.
I still would put my hat in the ring for SimCity, especially when considering that most freemium games out there are very much cloning SimCity in some capacity.

The debate I expected was what 5 to let in. These are the nominees but they won't all make it.....

OK I'll bite.
Pong
Space Invaders
Pac Man
Donkey Kong (Not Super Mario Bros)
Tetris
In that order because
Pong was not actually the 1st, but it was pretty much the first widely popular video game.
Space Invaders & Pac Man
Can you even imagine an arcade in the 1980's without these two games?
Donkey Kong (Not Super Mario Bros)
Introduced Mario and was the 1st successful strike on American shores by Nintendo who rose to become one of the top 3 VG companies on the planet.
Tetris was the 1st puzzle platformer which in turn led to things like bejeweled and yes even Angry Birds.

I've been to the Strong Museum of Play in Rochester NY.
I really love their selection of playable VG.
They also do something called 'In Another Galaxy' which is a weekend event that involves lots of Star Wars characters.
My R2 has been to that, maybe 4 years running now.

They also are home to the Toy Hall of Fame
R2 was on hand when they inducted Star Wars toys a few years back.

I've been to strong also.
they have a space invaders cab under glass.
VERY cool.
I need to go back again WITHOUT the kids so I can actually enjoy playing some of the games.

A buddy and I went to the induction ceremony. They had their main arcade setup as well as a rotating exhibit room set up as well downstairs. They were handing out free tokens for the event. We played for about 3 hours on a ton of machines for free. I think we ended up spending the most time on the 4 player Hot Rod machine. I also played a bunch of the mechanical Midway Whirly Bird.
We capped it off by going to see Mad Max Fury Road.....what a great day.
The winners:
Pong
Pac-Man
Super Mario Bros
Doom
World of Warcraft
Tetris
