I plan on spending almost $150 on a aimtrak with recoil and wanted to make sure that MAME or some emu fully supports all the classic light gun games like time crisis, terminator, etc. My pc is top notch so won't be an issue. Any considerations I need to be aware of before I buy?
Thanks.

I made videos of most of the games in action:

thanks!! looks good!
Have you tried the aimtrak with recoil by any chance? Apparently aimtrak is the best out there.
-
No, I got my guns before that was really an option and I'm not sure if I can even add it to my current guns.
-
They work with anything a mouse will work with, just don't expect anything using IR to have the accuracy of the original CRT light guns.
It's more like pointing in the general area to control the on-screen crosshairs.
If you expect to look down the barrel and use the gun sight's you're gonna be a little disappointed.
If you're satisfied with wii gun games, you'll be happy.
There currently aren't any better options for LCD screens.
Aimtrak is as good as it gets. Take that how you will.

the aimtrak does offer line of sight aiming, it does work really well and is very accurate, not sure what is happening on your end BadMouth but that ha been my expenrience, only issue is you cant move back and forth while playing, so for example you cant choose while playign a gmea to stretch your arms out more, as now the aimign will be off on the Y axis.

My old CRT guns were accurate to within 3 pixels no matter how the gun was held.
People of varying heights and playing styles could just grab the gun and play, just like the old arcade or console games.
No IR gun has been comparable.
It will meet some people's expectations and fall short for others.
OP asked for considerations before buying.
IMO expectations should be kept in check when buying IR guns.

well the gun goes out of calibratino if you step forward or backwards, don't know if lightguns ever did that, but so far its the only issue I have come across with aimtraks.
but as for you saying 'If you expect to look down the barrel and use the gun sight's you're gonna be a little disappointed.'
i must disagree, you make it sound like the aimtraks are like wii remotes, which they aren't, wii remotes are aweful to play light gun games, they have absolutely no correclation to real world gun barrel-to-screen line of sight, but aimtraks truly do have this, i can play a 40 minute game of time crisis 3 purely aiming down the sights of the barrel and its completely accurate, I would know if it wasn't as i would have thrown them in the bin and looked into CRTs, thankfully they worked quite well.
-
Actually I do find them comparable to wiimotes, but they are a little better.
I'm not bashing Andy's product as it is the best you can do at the moment if you have an LCD screen.
I don't see any point in going back and forth. Wanted OP to keep their expectations in check, but have no way of knowing what they're expectations are.
If they're young enough to not have any experience with old school CRT light guns, they won't know what they're missing.

Precise reason why I'm probably not going to put any light guns on my machine. I'm still debating it because my gf REALLY wants one, she loves those shooters :lol
It kind of annoys me because it should be possible to have much more accurate light guns then we do. Seems like a string of IR LEDS on the top and bottom of the screen should be enough for fairly accurate guns. Good software should be able to correct for different angles and distances within reason beside turning your gun upside down.
Just wish they still made the guns that could could use a VGA connector.

I do wish there was a way to manually adjust the Aimtrak calibration. Something similar to the sensitivity settings in MAME. If it's off a little, I would rather adjust it this way than start over and risk making it worse. I can get it pretty close but it's just not close enough where I trust it. The few times I tried the line of sight, it seemed to work OK but I just stick with the crosshairs for now.
-
I'm def not looking to line up the shot/sim feel. I just want to have a fun arcadey time and as long as it feels like it's shooting in the direction I'm pointing, I'm good.

I agree with the manual adjustment, I would like to recalibrate mine but am scared of making it worse as I had a mare getting the calibration to where it is now.

You had a horse calibrate your Aimtrak for you? Badass!

I would buy a Samsung before I would buy a LG. Far superior.

So would I, Skeeter, but he's talking about Light Guns.

No ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. I play my topgun on both my LG and Samsung and I get better calibration off the Samsung. So in case I would plumb for a Samsung.

The OP isn't talking about monitors at all. He is saying he is going to buy a LG as in Light Gun, not a Lucky Goldstar monitor.
Unless that "advice" was made as some sort of very dry, literal humor. :dunno

Would I display that kind of behaviour? I think you have been misled. ;D
Seriously I prefer Samsung monitors they are inexpensive and work great with the topgun and MAME. I'm sure the aimtrack would benefit also.
