Title: VS: Freaking lasers
Post by: Locke141 on March 06, 2015, 12:19:31 pm
About to start a new fight stick and was hoping to get some feed back on my art. I will be doing a test run tomorrow, as it is quick and only cost me the price of the perspex.

This will be laser cut and engraved on 1cm perspex. The image comes out better when its done from the back side, so this is a mirror image. I.E. whats on the right will be on the lest.

The lines of the line art don't match. The fireball seems too thick, especially since Ryu is so detailed.

That crossed my mind as well. With the laser its hard to emphasize one item over the other as its ether etched or not. I was going for a look of the fireball being brighter. I'll try to tone it down.

I need to clean it up a bit more but how is this for a start? I'll have to see how the laser deals with the gray scale.

I agree with yots, I would try to match the line art in all elements. It'll be easier to colour, and look much better then.

This will be etch with a laser so no coloring, It doesn't even do gray scale that well. I'll keep trying to match the line art.

Whoops, I didn't read the etching part. Sorry.

Is there a way to figure out what this would look like in photoshop?

Here is what I came up with.

I liked the length of the first hadouken better, but think this version is better in every other way.

What do you all think?

I did a test run on some scrap plexi to see how it will look. The plexi is damages and it was used and discarded so there are lines that are not part of my image.

Thanks guys,

This 3mm Plexi has a nice diffracting effect. I think for the final version I'm going to use a regular clear 1cm Plexi. Am thinking of adding a LED let start button or embedding a hidden LED's under the dust washer to add an edge lit effect. I'm ready to start cutting the final versions and the box.

I think the image is probably too detailed wihich makes the lasercut look too busy.
I took the liberty to adjust Ryu, Could you try on another test piece with a less detailed Ryu?

You are doing fine work in here, but I must say, I expected a Red Tent with

somewhere on the cab.

I had the same thought. I'll vector yours and give it a try. FYI its Ken not Ryu.

I have a idea around that image. When I start a build tread will see it makes the cut.

some capacitive touch switch action on that CP would be really cool for the admin and the p1/p2 buttons.
