Title: USB console adapters
Post by: vader on February 26, 2015, 08:12:42 pm
Finally got around to playing some of the older systems.  It was OK playing it with a keyboard or my MAME controls, but I decided I want to use the original controllers.  Originals that I have are

SNES x 2
NES   x 2
Genesis  x 2
TG16  x 1

I've purchased USB adapters for the SNES and NES and the NES is close enough to a TG16 controller that I can just use it, not a easily viable option available anyway.

I still need to pick up a N64 and Gamecube controller.  I may never use the Gamecube one since I never played the system, but figured what the hell.  My younger brother loved Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros, so
I may do that for when he visits.

What USB adapters are you guys using for N64, GC and Genesis ?  I still need to source some GC games, but not in a huge hurry for that.  I believe the Genesis adapter doubles as a Atari one also.

I have been looking for a high quality NES adapter that will work with an advantage arcade stick. From my research, the web sit below comes highly recommended for NES adapters and he has N64 ones as well.

I just use two knock off SNES usb controllers for Genesis, TG16, Nes, Master System, SNES.  It has enough buttons and is close enough for me for all the old consoles.

I wouldn't recommend using the N64 controllers.  It's just not that great.  Most generic will work better, and even the GC controller would be a better option as a replacement.  An Xbox controller would be a good choice as well.

I just want to stay original.  I know it's not the greatest controller in the world, but it's what I played with in my youth.  I'm currently playing with a Logitech ( xbox style ) controller and it's serviceable, but I'd rather go with the N64 controller.

I used to have one, too.  At the time, I preferred it.  But now when I hold it, it just feels odd and downright poorly conceived.  I bought a USB adapter for Project64, found out the stick on my existing controller wasn't good anymore, then thought "why do I want this" and didn't bother replacing it.

I do play around and now have Wii classic remote working in ZSNES.  I may see how it translates to Project64
