Picked up a cheap board the other day and took the whole playing segment apart to clean out broken tips stuck in the segments. When I put it back together all of the segments under the 20 and 1 won't register but every other segment does on the board does . I'm sure it's got to be something simple but does anyone have any ideas what happened?
-
And before anyone asks yes these segments worked when I got it
-
Is this the "Standard Spider" or "Super Spider" target head?
Did you reassemble it correctly?
Did you carefully plug everything back in?
-
Yes sir it's only one plug (wide single ribbon style) super spider and all the other sections work perfectly. I've seen at least one other post that the same thing happened where the 1s and 20s wouldn't work. Any idea if this is a common problem?
-
The target head screws should only be put in finger tight. Anything tighter will bind/press/damage the switch matrix.
Also, be sure the faces of the switch matrix and the rubber mat are cleaned thoroughly with lighter fluid.
-
Probably not tightened enough on the bottom screws. If you do it too tight, the game will let you know quite loudly.
-
Really lighter fluid? Lol I used windex and it didn't make a difference. The white composite board goes on with round plastic nuts so those are finger tight. I found a schematic used to test whether it's the matrix itself by opening and closing loops so I'm going to try that and see what I can find out. I appreciate the help guys!
-
This is going back quite a few years but I believe these have a back that snaps into each segment. If that is the case make sure you have them snapped tight. If they are not in correctly they will cause this.
-
Yes you are correct about the snaps on the segments. I just checked them and they look ok
-
Just messing around I flipped the matrix over just to see if all locations register and they do. Wtf!
-
Sounds like you fixed it
-
It registered but not the right numbers. Flipped at back the other way and it again wouldnt register. Ken you seem like you know alot about these is it very common for specifically the 1s and 20s to go dead if the matrix is bad? Are any board connections that might cause something like this? I cleaned all the boards with electronics cleaner
-
Also will a super spider from a galaxy work for my application? Are all super spiders the same?
-
Don't know the answer to that question. We dumped all our Arachnid machines off the route and switched over completely to Medalist "Dart Star" machines over 20 years ago.
-
Ended up being the matrix. Ordered a new one put it in and good to go. Thanks for the input guys
-
The power supply and switch matrix were the most common & expensive failures on Arachnid equipment. That's why my boss switched to Medalist dart boards instead.
-
See and I never thought it would've been that because it worked perfect before I took it apart and I made sure to be careful with it but who knows that was probably the first time it had been apart in 10-15yrs.
