Title: Compact, Different aluminium panel
Post by: draco on December 19, 2003, 09:22:37 am
Just thought I'd share my CP design which seems different from a lot of people's here. I'm curious to know what you guys think of the design, limited in some ways as it is.

I was poshed for space on the CP (wanted it the same size as the original cab's CP, no protrusions etc.) and wanted it flexible, as It'll have ArcadeVGA and a good PC in it, and it needs to be a multifunction machine (MAME, other emulators, DVD player, jukebox, StepMania, PC games, TV) so I built my CP as a 1-player affair, but with 8+2 buttons for the player, a keyboard and a trackball with 2 mouse buttons.

The trackball is an older compaq laptop spare which I got on Ebay for like

It works, and if your happy I'm happy.  However if it were me I go with a pullout keyboard drawer under the control panel, and two joysticks.   Every once in a while you will want someone next to you and your layout doesn't support that.  (unless you can live with the kyeboard guy having the ability to force you into stupid things, and difficult play for him)

I have no problem with any of the switchable or modular control panels which would also solve the problem in a way I think is better.

But hey, it is your cabinet so you can do what you want with it.  Its about having fun.

Interesting.  I too would normally go with a pull-out, but I can see where this thing would have its advantages if you plan on playing a lot of PC games on it.  Especially newer internet-enabled ones with chat features.

I think I like it.

I think I don't like it, but don't mind me.
