Hello,
just picked up a PS1, so i can replay the classics like resident evil series, tomb raiders and other classics like metal gear and silent hill, but these games are hard to find or ridiculously over priced . i do have an arcade cabinet with the psx emulator on it but its not the same. i have a collection of old consoles like the ps2 and original xbox and plan on have my own man cave in the near future.
i live in the UK and i Know its a long shot but can anyone still chip them to play backups????? i know i can get the parts my self but i wouldn't know were to start, my soldering skills aint that great and i dont want to destroy my playstation.
i know theres the disk swap option but i dont really want to go down that road.
if any one could help me out that would be great.
thank you.
:)

I understand emulation isn't the exact same thing, however they do make USB converters for your PS1 controllers at a reasonable price over on ebay so you can use your emulation and still have the same overall feel. Soldering mod chips is hard, depending on the PS1 model though I had one that had a plug in on the back mod chip which read the boot code from 1 real game and let you load whatever you wanted.
Just a couple of options to look at.

UK.. yeah that is a shame, these games are priced reasonably on USA ebay etc but shipping may be not so great to you and are ntsc versions. PSIO may be readied/more available next year so watch that space, should be plug and play. Soldering is not that difficult on ps1 modchip; it is only 6 or 8 points as I recall, you can practice soldering on junk people throw out.. think you can even program your own chip with ponyprog or something...

Go to a cash converters. Last ps1 I picked up there was already chipped, and the games are £1 each.

I have Chips that are very easy to install for a PS1..
Drop me an email at moddedgp@gmail.com
I am in the USA so shipping might be as much as the chip which I sell for $10
