If someone already posted on this I apologize but I thought I would spread the word....

"So far, Stories has decided to start with Altered Beast, Rise of Nightmares, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, and Crazy Taxi as English-language live action and animated spinoffs. Virtua Fighter and Golden Axe have also been mentioned."

Altered Beast is the terrible game that won't die.   :-\

I could see Crazy Taxi working as a cartoon.

Rest of this?  Meh.

I could see SoR and Golden Axe as films (especially if they get a Kangaroo to clean up the mean streets in SoR).

Virtua Fighter would be a cool anime style movie to watch.

Streets of Rage should have been made in the 80's.

I can see Shinobi working.
I can see a ToeJam and Earl cartoon working on cartoon network.

I see no reason anyone would pay for the Altered Beast name.  The whole concept could be done without paying sega anything.

My first thought is that they were just putting scripts out there hoping someone would pick them up so Sega could make some profit off their IP without doing much.  (as is their current business model).
The article makes it sound like Sega would actually be producing the movies in house.  I don't see that happening.

Everytime I see "ToeJam and Earl" I remember the story of how they were supposed to be named FlowJam and Swirl.

I'd watch a movie about a boxer/UFC fighter that went vigilante after his brother/sister/whatev was killed on the "mean streets." He could have a brother/cousin/sister/whatev who doesn't play by the rules and gives him help or insider information.  Bonus if Rolling Stones "Street Fighting man" was played during credits.

^Actually, that sounds like a kungfu movie I watched on netflix.

I'd still watch it.  As long as it was cast with new actors/actresses, not big names.

Vitrua Fighter wants to be a Matrix style movie where an amputee gets "jacked in" to a vitural reality program/holodeck  while he is doing physical therapy as a recovering amputee.

Kickboxer 1 - 57* (or whatever number they stopped on...)

I honestly enjoy bad martial arts flicks so SoR could work.

I'm guessing Altered Beast looked popular to them due to the current werewolf/vampire craze.  We could end up with Twilight Altered Beast...

But nobody owns the rights to werewolves or vampires.  What is it about Altered Beast that would make someone want to pay Sega for the rights?
I don't think being able to use the title Altered Beast is worth that much.

Well Altered Beast, while crummy does have a fairly unique story. A centurion brought back to life by Zeus to rescue his daughter Athena and the end credits to the game sort of implied the game was a movie.

Seems the title Streets of Rage was already used in 1994

Tempted to rent it on amazon video now.
I'm sure it will be an hour and a half wasted.

EDIT: shows currently unavailable after you click the link to amazon video

They already made a Virtua Fighter anime back in the 90s.  It's actually good too, I watched every episode.  I wish they would release it in a box set or something.

At least a Bloody Fate 2 was not mentioned. Thats good news right? Really the only games that I can think of that would make good movies are Hotline Mimi and Payday 2. Hotline was inspired by Drive and Payday is based off of HEAT so really. We just need to stop this nonsense. That means you to Naughty Dog.

I'd love for a movie that captures the fast paced action and nonstop excitement of Shenmue.

Funny Shenmue Parody (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wln9xS4n164#)
