I tried to fire up my mame machine for the first time today and I hit a wall :banghead:
Setup: Windows XP with a GeForce 6800 video card.
Monitor: Wells Gardner D9400 27"
The monitor will work if I boot to safe mode, it just refuses to like the video card. I'll see the windows boot screens and as soon as the video card takes over...I see a mostly black screen with thin wavy lines.
Any suggestions? Is this video card just incompatible with the monitor? While in safe mode I was at 800 x 600 resolution which is what I have the video card set to also.
Any help!!!! ???

I very briefly tried again this morning and the screen actually cleared for a second and there is a message "Over Range" so a bit of Google work has told me that it could be my refresh rate being set too high. I will try that tonight when I get home from work. I'm still open to any suggestions if that triggers any ideas from people.

There is no video displaying on the monitor or an "Over Specification"/"Out of Range"message:
The PC must be set to 800x600 or 640x480 (depending on monitor) at 60hz refresh rate. An arcade monitor does not report it's capabilities to Windows like a PC monitor, so you will need to manually do this. Here are 2 ways to accomplish this:
1. Download MultiRes. Install it, and choose the option to have it start with Windows. Now go to Start>Programs>Startup folder and right-click on the MultiRes icon, and change the Target to say: "C:\Program Files (x86)\MultiRes\MultiRes.exe" /800,600,32,60 , alternatively you can download our modified link (right-click and Save As) and put it in the Startup folder. For Windows 8 the startup file can be found at C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\
2. Boot the PC into VGA mode using one of the methods shown here.
3. Log into the PC from another computer using Remote Desktop, Remote Assistance, or a program like TeamViewer or Join.me. Your video card drivers may have advanced options to limit resolution/refresh, or you can try PowerStrip.
So I'll try some of those as well.

Hate when that happens. Try booting in safe mode to change settings.

or hook two monitors up at once and use the other one to change the settings, then flip the arcade monitor to primary.

Safe Mode booted OK, I did that to check the screen resolution but for some dumb reason I didn't think to check the refresh rate. I'll try safe mode and if not I have another monitor sitting right there which I can use. Hopefully that fixes it.

I tried several of the options to change the settings and none of them worked.
In the end I installed Multires and that worked perfectly!!!! :applaud:
