I am restoring/converting an old generic cabaret (australian) into a dedicated 1941. I haven't been able to find any artwork (hi-res) stuff to use in the restoration.
I've searched almost every web site and online store etc etc, and no luck - I am hoping someone, somewhere has some scans of the marquee at least?? HELP!??
Thanks, Arcade Alex.
PS. While I'm at it - anyone got any scans of the CPO's used in the 19XX and 1944 kits?
-
Ok - so it looks like noone has any of the artwork?
Anyone not busy over Xmas want to design one? At least the marquee ?
I'm sure there'd be a heap of folks out there looking for some 1941 stuff?
I've seen some really great custom stuff posted here.
I'd just be happy with anything hi-res for use on my cab that is 1941-specifc.
Thanks - happy holidays.
Alex, Australia

Haven't seen any 1941 stuff no (well apart from some low res scans on klov (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=0&game_id=6765)). There is some 1943 artwork on CAGA (http://www.arcadecollecting.com/caga/) (Bezel and Marquee), but no CPO.
-
Give me the measures of your cabs marquee, i might do somehing neat in photoshop!
PS: If you wanna see 2 of my works go to the images section in the -> arcadeperfect.com
BTW i'm Whiskeroids as well! I think that my wallpapers are identified... :)
-
Awesome! Dimensions are 500mm x 200mm. Anything you can do will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
-
Well, i can't do anything for these days because i'm at my aunt's house to pass my Xmas but in January it might be a interesting stuff to do for ya!
Can you wait that long?
PS: Seen my works already? If not go here:

-
Well, i started today the custom Marquee that you've asked!
I think that you'll like the job, stay tunned! :)
-
Really?? THANKS! Cannot wait to see the artwork!
You are awesome!!
;D

Hi, well i'm doing a "Photoshop Marquee" with 50cmX20cm (i think it's this size right)!
I inserted a "mame logo" to the art, can i!Well, this is gonna be a "very customized" artwork so don't expect nothing like the Original 1941 marquee! It's good but not the original...
Well, i'll email you when i have something more complete ok! :)
-
That does sound pretty cool... BUT, it is for a dedicated 1941 cabinet, so if possible please don't use the MAME logo, as I have a MAME machine.
Thank you.
-
It's none of my business of course ::) , but why not use the 1943 marquee? Maybe alter it a bit to fit the needs?
-
I am courrently with my PC or O.S. troubled so i'll take longer ok...
-

I had already tried that... but it is just didn't come out different enough to make the game look unique etc.
I am looking forward to what fiend can come up with for me!
Thanks again!
-
Alex, i found some pictures from the game that are going to fit very well into the marquee i'm doing so beware! ;D

You little bloody BEAUTY!!! :) That is perfect.
I did find some nice artwork from 19XX - that would be good to use too???
I am also doing a dedicated cabinet for 19XX too, and would love some side art done using this artwork. But I think it's not hi-res enough when I'll need it printed at about 20" by 35" for the side of my cabinet ??
Anyone have the original artwork to scan at higher res?
-
Humm, Alex, that's exactly what i was talking about... :P
I'll try to modify that so i can make it look like 1942! Don't worry, it'll be fine! ;D
Hum, man you really love those 19'series don't ya! :P
-
Sure do love them!
Once I have the marquee for 1941 (thanks to you!! :) ), I'll have that cab finished - and just 19XX to do.
Here these are ones completely finished so far:
Just had a thing for 1942 as a young lad, but once I found the others - I thought why not have the whole series dedicated, would look pretty cool in a games room! Still need the proper CPO for 1943 though - anyone?
-
Wow, those lowboys look awesome!! I bet they look even better in a room all side by side. Great work.
I was wondering where in Aus you're getting that great artwork printed?? I also have done 2 Aussie lowboy cabinets which need a bit of "sprucing up" graphics wise. :P
-
Thanks Stuzza! ;D
I got the artwork printed at an office supplies store here in QLD - (Rockhampton). I think it's really just a massive ink jet printer. Yes, Yes I know it's not silkscreened etc etc, but they really come up good enough to use on these low boys.
They do look good togehter, but will look even better once I have 1941 and 19XX in there as well - they are all pretty similar low boys, so they look like a specifically designed set.
1942 - I have an original perspex marquee;
Side Art - I have one side of the original Williams side art - that I scanned, and touched up to have the romstar-style '1942' logo.
CPO - I found a scan of the generic romstar and had it printed on adhesive stuff - matt laminated to protect it a little.
Bezel - I hacked the 1943 Bezel from CAGA and made it a little more custom 1942
1943 - These are all original NOS stuff (except the Bezel)
The logo I edited from the scan of the side art, and used it as additional front art.
1944 - Got the artwork for this off http://cps2shock.retrogames.com/gamelist.html
A great site for the CPS2 stuff - I helped contribute some of the art.
All reprints done at same place as other stuff.
1941 - all custom stuff as I couldn't find ANYTHING (except a instruction sheet) on the net.
19xx - custom and from CPSShock (above) except for original marquee I found on Ebay.
I'll post pictures of all of them once finished.
-
Man, great stuff you have there! ;D
Well, the marquee that i'm doing it's gonna look a bit more "futuristic" than the original 1941 marquee but in my opinion much more beutiful! I hope not o disapoint ya! ???
-
futuristic? Cool by me!
I am just hoping for something similar to the other ones - the title "1941 - Counter Attack" in font with some airplane/explosion type artwork around it.
You mention the original 1941 marquee.. has anyone EVER seen this marquee?
Anyone? Stuzza?
I have never seen anything but the instruction card scan.. and that's it!
-
There is a 1941 cabinet picture on klov (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=6765&letter=1) It (sort of) shows a marquee.
-
That's not the original marquee - it's actually just a 1942 cabinet with the marquee altered to say 1941.
They have used the side art image on klov (which is very low res) and added it to the marquee. If you look closely at the cab picture you can see the block type (low res made much larger hence the block pixel appearance) picture of the planes on the left of the title 1941.
I'm still searching for a picture of the real 1941 marquee.
-
I just came across an instruction card for 1941. Maybe an instruction card for a game unit or something.

Yeah - that's the ONLY artwork I've been able to find on the internet for 1941 (apart from some Lynx box scans etc) in almost 2 years of searching etc.
I will be using that on my cab for sure. Thanks.
-
There is a photo of the 1941 Marquee here if that helps?:
http://www.highway.net.au/parts/headers/2334.html
They are actually selling the Marquee for $20 Aus.

you can also take a look at the Arcade Papers Preservation Archive (http://www.world-of-arcades.com/APPA_Index.htm)
they have some stuff for 1941 (http://www.world-of-arcades.com/APPA_lmenu%20html/1941_i.htm)

SHEEESH!!! I used to check that site every week for the last 12 months - haven't checked this year - and they added that marquee about 7 days ago!!! AAAARRGGH! Hopefully they'll have one left for me - it's only $20 aussie bucks, so that's fine to at least see what it might be like. Thanks stuzz!
-
Ha, ha, hilarious ;D

So, do you still want to see my work? ;D
-
OF COURSE!! ;D
Most of the custom artwork I've seen around the place actually is ALOT better than the originals!
-
Alex i'm almost finishing the marquee! IMHO it's great!
PEOPLE can you borrow me some space to show the "beta preview" here!? ;D
-
You can attach (preview) images here. If that's not enough then I can host it for you.
I'd like to see what you made :o
-
The problem is that the marquee is very big!
-
Allrighty ... I left you a pm with my e-mail address.
-
OK, here goes. I've put Fiend's handywork on my server. I think it looks really breathtaking :o
(http://arcade.laweb.nl/BYOAC/1941marqueebetasample.jpg)
-
Oh i feel honored...
It's just a Beta sample! I did that in 4 dayz but i'm gonna dedicate more to that!
-
;D
HOLY SHI*T!! That is amazing! and is EXACTLY how I hoped it would turn out!
Please - I don't think it needs any changing - how can I download the full size version?!
THANK YOU FIEND! THANK YOU!!
-
Awesome looking Marquee Fiend! ;D Please make the full size final version available! ;)
-
wow!
-
That is really fantastic work!
-S
-
Well, the problem now is how to print this baby! I'm working in RGB and 150 pixels per inch! The colors i think the must be CMYK don't they? Is 150 pixels per inch enough? ???
I think the printed version of this will not turn out so great... :'(
THKS for all the great's and wow's, i feel great with those output's! ;D
I'm gonna correct some stuff around and we'll see a ever better marquee!
I'll post the original layered version here so don't worry because this ain't exclusive. :)
I'm just tired of mame logo's... ;D
-
I read somewhere (think it was on the ClassicAracdeGrafix FAQ and also the Frostillicus AI tutorial) that you should look how it comes out in CMYK, but only to see how it will turn out when printed. The end result is supposed to be submitted in RGB. At least that's what stuck in my mind.
-
People, i'm sorry to bring up this old thread but i really need someone to host the large marquee, for me!
Is there someone who already does this as a community service? Thanks anyway!
BTW, i want more opinions about my marquee, if you don't mind, post them please, i might do some more! ;D
-
How large is the file?
-S
-
I'm not sure, it might be like 5 mb large!
Can you host it pls? :)
-
hey fiend.. I thought it was like 20 Mb??
-
The original ".PSD" file is 26 mb! I'm compressing it to ".BMP" and i think that's gonna weight like 5 mb...
Does your printer prints BMP format files? ???
-
Maybe that can be emailed if it's only 5mb?? I guess if someone can host the file, it might be best to host the full .psd file?? I know the place I get some stuff printed has photoshop and could print the PSD file no problems.
-
Belive me man, it's way better to print the PSD file that any image compression!
I could send ya the file but it's way large! The "propper" solution would host it inside a FTP but i don't know if anyone has one here...
:)
