Title: Running MAME on android.
Post by: thehammer12 on October 17, 2014, 12:41:04 pm
Has anyone here set up MAME on android? Is it possible to do this without using the app's MAME4DROID or MAME4ALL?

I tried running it on my phone last night, and most of the rom's I came across weren't working for those apps, so I wanted to try this on my tablet and my mini pc. I also want to use regular push buttons and joysticks.....not controllers which those apps use and or are compatible with.  Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem getting it to run

Bluetooth gamepad or keyboard.

Did you try running MAME (non app version) on it?

mame4droid is .37b rom set.
mame4droid reloaded is .139 romset.

Retroarch android is .72 or .78 romsets.

I have dual core android stick (gamestick with custom rom) and it works just fine with all versions of mame with the right romset.
there isn't a very good front end for android yet & the mame4droid's don't support shortcut launching that I know of so you are stuck with their text based front end.

retroarch does work with the only front end I found for emulators called gamesome but navigating with gamepad sometimes doesn't work.

I haven't tried retroarch or gamesome front end, when you say it sometimes doesn't work....what did you do restart the system to get it to work? was it more of a lag? Just curious.

Interesting, I dont have a RP right now so I cant test it out. Maybe for the next project I can try it out, I will take a look at the process and see how others are tweaking it.

Thanks.

All the mame's work with a touch screen or mouse beautifully.
so does gamesome.
The problem is with the gamepad.
Gamesome sometimes doesn't recognize the joysticks being pressed on the gamepad so you cant pick a game.

Now, I can use a mini trackball to move the cursor around & select games to launch that way just fine though.
I keep hoping that Nostalgia frontend hits google play so we can use that on android.
It works well on ouya.

I could not get a mouse to work on Mame4droid either. I cannot find a Bosconian Rom set that will work in Mame4droid.

Update: I have had some progress with my Android pc using a generic usb controller, joystick got picked up. Now I have to wire up the push buttons and cross my fingers, still no front end though.
