Is it possible to map 3 keyboard keys to one arcade button? I want 1 button to be "save game" and the other one to "load game" I dont care from which slot it loads or saves from. Im using Maximus if that makes any difference. Thx :)

Something else ive noticed in mame. One of my buttons is mapped to "none" which is button 11. When pressed it simulates the "ESC" key. I don't know how to fix this? in Maximus the button is not used for anything

You need to check your controls for the UI. I had a setup where whenever I did a flying kick in street fighter 2 my machine was putting coins in. You can assign several buttons to have the same function. I think this is useful for if you have two lightup coin inserts, as you only need one coin slot for 2 player games.
You will need to go through each of your controls in input (general) and see which has an esc key assigned to it.

If you assign more than one coin slot to a single button in the "input (general)" menu, you will want to un-do that on a per-game basis for the 2-player games like TMNT (tmnt2po) and Gauntlet (gauntlet2p) that assign credits based on the coin slot you use.

i tried mapping a button then "1" on the keyboard but when i press that button it still asks for "which slot would you like to save in". Is there a progam i could use to do this?
The only options mame gives me is "save state" and "load state" then i have to press "1" or whatever slot i want to save it into. I want to be able to do this with just 1 button on the arcade and not have to use the keyboard.

Ah you see I didn't know that. All the 2 player games I've played automatically switch to 2 player when you put 2 coins in.

You could set it to auto load on open, when a game is selected it would then load the last saved save state. You could then just have one button that saves.
Failing that, and I'm sure someone will correct me here. You could use autohotkey to assign a hotkey so that you hover over the game you want to load, if you press f6 for instance it will open and load save game, pressing select will just open the game from boot up screen. F6 could be assigned to a control on your control panel, maybe even a shift key combination as ultimarc only assign 1 or 2 buttons the shift facility, tab and escape I believe.

I might just have to use one of my KADE units and install a keyboard bios on it. Kind of silly though to use that just to map one button for "1"
Yeh i do have it set when the rom starts the game will load from a previous save. But what im after is different. Am i asking for something too difficult?

I wouldn't have thought this was too difficult. I have the belief that if I've thought of it, somebody else will have thought of it and come up with a workaround.
