I don't know. Peter Dinklage could save anything. Then again, he was in underdog.
-
I had no idea who Michelle Monaghan is, had to look her up. She wasnt terrible in that Mission Impossible flick.
I kinda wish Adam Sandler would just go away for a couple years, his calibur, and I use that term VERY loosely, of movie has plummeted for the last decade or so.
Josh Gad has a face for radio, and Dinklage is downright incredible.
-

1) Underdog is a fine movie that didn't need saving
2) If it had needed saving Peter Dinklage would have saved it.
-
Adam Sander will suck it so far down nobody can save it... Jennifer will just rewatch the Fonz jump the shark instead of going to see that.
-
I dunno - I do like Dinklage's Billy Mitchell-ness... >:D
-
Why do they keep letting Sandler make films? Are people really paying to see them?

I picked up on that too, but it didn't do anything for me.
From Wikipedia:
Plot
When aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war, they attack Earth using the games as models for their various assaults. President William Cooper (Kevin James) calls upon his childhood best friend, '80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), who had a previous relationship to his attractive wife (Jane Krakowski) to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet.
If Rob Shneider doesn't yell "you can do it!" at some point, all is lost.

Yeah, well, I'm curious to see how THIS movie inspires Kaneda...

Didn't Philip J. Fry and Bender already do this?

Didn't Philip J. Fry and Bender already do this?
My thoughts exactly. The Futurama episode probably has better writing too.

It also inspired a game to add to this seemingly endless hall of mirrors -- art imitates game imitates art imitates game . . .

Had to post the vid, if only for the soundtrack. ;D

HoM was considered a gameplay annoyance in Build, now it's a feature?
-
Why do they keep letting Sandler make films? Are people really paying to see them?
For a while he was one of the most profitable producers in all of Hollywood. He probably funds his own stuff still.
-
Adam Sandler movies are simply an excuse for him to paw beautiful women on screen as proof to the rest of us that he did it.
No exceptions.
-
He also likes to puts things in his crotch and pretend it's his junk.

There's at least 1 exception, 50 first dates. Or do you consider Drew Barrymore "beautiful" ?
-
Well then we've got to throw the wedding singer in there as well. Also generic Drew and Sandler movie #3 that was released this summer.

I believe he still does. Isn't Happy Madison his production studio?

I'd suggest a quick visit to your optometrist, maybe that'll help.
As for Sandler, I give him a ton of slack, just because of how much (despite me not being a pot smoker) I love Grandma's Boy. Yes its dumb, but damn is it funny.
-
Late ninties early 2000s drew had it going on, absolutely adorable. She's still lovely when she decides to put her face and hair on, most women aren't that attractive with no make-up and flat hair, and she just tends to go out like that a lot nowadays. They aren't like us guys. We age like wine. I get sexier every year. I'm 35 and have to take a stick to the clubs to beat back the daddy issues crowd. Sometimes I look in the mirror and think that maybe I should do that for a living. Be ridiculously good looking.
-
Yeah Chuk, but you cant turn left.
-
Wedding Singer also had Melody from Hey Dude. ;D

Agreed. It is dumb but funny. Shirley Jones in particular is a riot.
Chris Columbus is directing Pixels so I am hopeful it will be better than Sandler's latest movies. Anymore he tends to go off the rails when he makes a movie with one of his buddies as the director. I just hope they use mostly real games from the 80's ala Wreck it Ralph. For example a 3D vector version of Asteroids in one of the fight scenes could be awesome. Complete with the original sounds. If they create their own "new" retro video games for the movie I won't have much interest.

Apparently the promotional materials so far show Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, Pong and Tetris. As for sounds.... :dunno

Ahh handsome people problems am I right? I wake up to brush my teeth in the morning and when I look in the mirror I excite myself a little... just a little. ;)

I'm gonna throw in with the "Drew is hot" club. She does it for me. Seriously. I really like natural women, and she is gorgeous just as she is. Never understood the need to cake on the makeup. That's not beauty, that's costume.

I too have your Back Le Chuck. She looks better in some movies than others...but in Wedding Singer especially she was incredibly Hot.

Yes she was.

Always liked Drew ....
Back to OT: I don't know, it could be promising. Chris Columbus directing, Sony producing as a family film a la Wreck It Ralph, more classics involved than the aforementioned, mid-May release date ....

Going to be previewed heavily at Comic-Con apparently.
-
Probably not as annoying as Noah.
Just saw the Planet of the Apes over the weekend. I think the production was very well done.
-
Pretty sure Adam Sandler movies have not stopped being profitable. At all. Good comedies are very few and far between. Unfortunately, the world will settle for bad comedies in the absence of good ones. Ben Stiller is like the most bankable actor in Hollywood. For example.
-

:applaud: Agreed! Have you seen Funny People (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1201167/). He rubs in his ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?----getting abilities hard in that one.

Yeah, people seem to think that popular = good. Nothing could be further from the truth. How else to you explain Michael Bay?
-
How else to you explain Michael Bay?
Yeah, wtf is he doing to my childhood.
-
I think what pisses me off about him is that he doesn't have to rape our childhoods, rather he seems to take great glee in it and does it just for the heck of it.
Prior to Transformers, he would do these big budget disaster films which were actually decent in terms of watch ability. He was making tons of money with those and at least they were original.
Give the Transformers to Marvel Studios.... they used to do Transformers comics and they were really good. They could just adapt one of those. Give TMNT to New Line Cinema. They seemed to do a good enough job the first time around.
Thankfully I think that Hollywood is finally getting the hint. I know the "gritter" Short-Circuit reboot has been canned as have a number of mindless reboots and adaptations.
-
Here is how I think it should have gone
Transformers 1: war of cybertron
transformers 2: escape from cybertron, battle in space, crash the ark into the volcano
transformers 3: volcano erupts, reboots transformers, they take their modern/earthly forms and establish themselves on the planet. Humans finally make an appearance.
transformers 4, the one that came out in the 80's.
Also they would look like robots, not just a bunch of wire and garbage.
-
Also they would look like robots, not just a bunch of wire and garbage.
That's what gets me. I want to see parts shifting into different positions like the original toys transforming.
With the current way, they might as well be made out of liquid metal like the robot in terminator 2.
There's nothing clever about it.
Truck>swarm of garbage>robot.
-
Don't go see TMNT then. Shredder was basically a Michael Bay Transformer. Only dumber.
-

Yeah, Shredder was a GIANT disappointment. I mean, they introduced him with his mask off - which ruins the whole idea, and then give him the most ridiculous costume ever. So magnetic homing knives. ---fudgesicle---. That was just aweful.
The turtles themselves I rather liked but of course like anything Bay it fell prey to the "let's throw so much action on the screen you can't tell what the ---fudgesicle--- is happening" mentality.
And why the ---fudgesicle--- was the movie about April? She's the supporting ---goshdarn--- character. It's like they made an Austin Powers movie staring Basil Exposition. Jeebus.
-
Might want to spoiler tag the part about Shredder's costume. It's the only surprise in that god awful movie.
-

Sure it's surprising, but in the way that like flash flood or assault or an STD is surprising. I wish somebody would've warned me. Here's another spoiler non spoiler. No other mutants. All that awesome mutagen and no Bebop, no Rock Steady, no Baxter, not even a damn Casey Jones.
-
Did he at least not screw up splinter? :dunno
-
Did he at least not screw up splinter? :dunno
Splinter was good. If they had poured some of the mystery and build up they used on Splinter and put a dash of that onto Shredder the movie would have been better for it.
The back story was kind of a mesh of a few different turtle-verses with some new stuff thrown in for good measure. That part of it wasn't a bad treatment at all in my opinion. At least they weren't aliens or anything like that. They missed the mark in developing why the hell the foot clan would be after the turtles and Splinter anyway - or at least a big chunk of the mark.
-
From what I read, (note I said READ.... you guys can't complain if you keep funding the idgit by going to see his garbage films) the backstory was utter crap.
They basically lifted it from the amazing spiderman, another mindless reboot. Oh and yeah young April names the Turtles and her father makes them or something because this film is all about April O' Fox... afterall it's called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... oh wait... :badmood:
-

I forgave that bit in the first film because it wasn't that bad and we hadn't seen the transformers in anything American since Beast Machines. But with each sequel the transformations looked progressively worse. Their character designer is a moron. A transformation effect, which doesn't even last a second should be as simple and crisp as possible so you can actually follow what is happening. Yet with each sequel they actually BRAG about adding more detail to each transformation. It just shows that they are clearly missing the point.
I always envisioned a realistic transformation with the robots looking basically like they did in G1 and using the same transformation animation, only when the transformation is about complete all those "errors" (grills the wrong angle/size, ect) start filling themselves out and it zooms in at the microscopic level to see nano-bots rapidly welding the seams together only to zoom out to see sparks zipping around all the seams for a split second until a satisfying "clunk" is heard as all the seams from the robot limbs are finally formed into the solid car body. The transformation into a robot would be the opposite of course.
You would only have to show those nano bots once as an establishing shot and then after that you'd never have to take that much time and it would explain why seams magically appear/disappear on the robots.
-
Glad I'm not the only one annoyed by the look and transformations of the transformers. It was so heavily hyped that the transformations were accurate, but looked like spinning scrap metal. I also felt that shattered garbage look made it pretty much impossible to tell who each one was in high action scenes. At one point remember thinking "Why is Starscream fighting Starscream?" After the 2nd watch, I am pretty sure neither of the bots fighting in that shot was Starscream.
-
While the movie sucked, I thought the CGI on the turtles was fantastic, and I was thinking of doing a TMNT cab just so I could slap some hi res art from the movie on the sides.. a couple of those slo-mo scenes would be perfect for it.. Just need to wait for the blu ray to come out to get some good screen caps..
-
Also they would look like robots, not just a bunch of wire and garbage.
but looked like spinning scrap metal.
Truth.
I refused to watch any of these movies.. and I really used to like the old cartoons. Had a handful of the toys too.
I say that as a collective whole... we create a protest to ban CGI creators that output this level of Incompetence... so that we dont have to ever see them Ruin other movies, ever again.
How anyone could have ever got into this field with that level of LAME, is staggering.
Yes, they very will could have, and SHOULD have, made very decent looking characters that far better matched the Cartoon.
Its never going to be 100% realistic... as while yes... you can make a robot turn into a car... mechanically, the structure isnt that sound... as well as having issues with drive train and other mechanical issues that are required to make a car go...
Doesnt matter. Its the fantasy, the fun, and the emotional content... that super-cede the realism aspect. But if you cant even stand to look a them, or even tell them apart.. then why bother?
Its a sad joke... just about as sad the butchery in the Starwars CGI, and later, full on Cartoon CGI foolery in the Prequels. I watched Episode one... nearly walked out, and didnt bother to watch any of the others. I suggest eveyone vote with their money... rather than see the crap, thinking that it MIGHT be better this time... and giving more money and power to the almighty Incompetent ones.

I feel like GI Joe 2 was the best recent hasbro movie I saw. :-\
-
I feel like GI Joe 2 was the best recent hasbro movie I saw. :-\
I actually enjoyed GI Joe 2. Was worlds better than that first PoS they pawned off on us.
-
If enjoyed it better than the first as in you enjoyed your mild heart attack better than the near fatal one I'll agree with you, but I caught GI Joe 2 on amazon prime last month (for free, again I'm not paying for this crap)... it was terrible. No Destro, no Baroness, 3 minutes of Cobra Commander, all the Joe's looked so generically interchangeable that I was halfway through the film before I figured out which ones died in the beginning... yeah much like transformers they totally missed the point of the franchise.
I want to Joes in football Jerseys and Sailor Uniforms and Lady Jay dressed like a Canadian Forest Worker (yeah that's right... look it up). I want Destro with the goofy voice and the Inexplicably fluid metal mask. I want CC running around like a lunatic and the twins and trouble bubbles and rattlers and B.A.T.S. and all the idiotic, over-the-top stuff we got in the cartoons. That was the fun bit of the show. To be blunt it was stupid and didn't make any sense. Hell the Joe's base has a giant cannon mounted to the top that you can't aim!
When you try to add realism to G.I. Joe... well that's like trying to make a realistic Care Bears movie...even if you succeed you fail.
Also I just don't get the heavy focus on Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow throughout both films. In the cartoon they were my LEAST favorite characters... absolutely no personality.
The casting is bad too. If you look at the original show, the figures and even the old dolls all of that is based on, all the Joes are fairly average in terms of build. Yeah they are fit, but they aren't 300 lb pro-wrestler meat-heads. You'll also be hard pressed to find any joe with a buzz cut, mostly so you can tell them apart. Yet in the film every joe has a buzz cut, so you can't tell them apart.
-

They named that movie Fantastic Four.
-
I've stayed away from all the Transformers/G.I. Joe/TMNT movies, even though 25 years ago I would have been all over those ---maternal-smurfs---. Why? Simple - I'm not their target audience.
-
They are entertaining movies in general (as far as CGI packed action movies go), just not true to the originals. Just go in with low expectations and you come out having enjoyed the time. MOST movies are, IMHO, just basic entertainment, and although millions of dollars are spent creating them, they are only worth a couple hours for a few dollars to me. If I went to a bar to hang out with friends, I would spend maybe $10-$20 on beer and buck hunter in a couple hours, so even going to the theater is worth being entertained for a couple hours. But it is rare that any movie moves me emotionally, give me the same experience as a good book, or even compel me to see the movie a second time. I was never a big fan of the cartoons as a kid, so the transformers movies weren't a major disappointment to me, and I was entertained enough with the action to not regret spending the money. TMNT was borderline not worth the $10 ticket to me, and only because the CGI art saved it for me.. Again though, I was never really into it as a kid..
In the past year, there is only one movie I have seen that I enjoyed enough to want to see a second time (in the theater), and that is Guardians of the Galaxy. Great flick, WAY better than I expected. The genre isn't even the reason I like it, it was just a great movie in general.
-
Guardians of the Galaxy is very pretty but it's the same damn story as every other movie of that type. No deviation at all.
Kid is fish out of water. Kid has some life event that leaves him alone and he finds out he is an alien/mutant. Kid is found by people who are aware of his difference and they attack him or take him. Kid ends up wandering through life in remote places. Kid ends up in the middle of some random sequence of events that makes him an enemy of someone who happens to have the allspark/tesseract/red matter/dark matter/alien stone/magic wand/magic beans. Kid has to decide if he's going to escape and be safe or do the impossible and defeat the alien/mutant/magic army and save the world/universe/middle school. Kid succeeds with lots of help from surprising friends. Enemy manages to survive anyway and comes back for part 2 a couple years later.
I'm getting sort of burned out on this story.

Yeah doi, it's called the Hero's Journey and it's pretty much the only story out there.

You can all blame Star Wars for ruining modern Cinema. Film Makers realized that everyone would be content watching the plot of Star Wars over and over and over again.
-
Vigo...( **in ominous monotone**) I am your mother!!! (giggle >:D)
-
I like Guardians because it was funny in the right places, the characters were fun and likeable and entertaining, and because the pace of the movie was perfect. It never dragged, the timing of everything was perfect, the humor was right up my alley (ie not just a whole lot of awkward situations disguised as humor), and I was entertained the entire time I was in my seat. THAT is why I go to a movie. If I want a good story, I read a book. Of course even books are just recycling the same stories over and over. But it is the twist that makes them unique. A good author can take a story that has been done a million times and add a twist that makes it worth the read.
Oh, and while the movie completely defied physics in every sense, it actually did so in a way that didn't seem completely unreasonable. This, to me, is probably the biggest downfall of modern movies and stories. Suspension of disbelief. It is key to taking something that is impossible and making it at least believable enough to not detract from the adventure. Sorry, but when Iron Man crashes into a tree at 400 miles per hour and lives because his suit is made of strong steel, I lose focus on the movie because there is no way you can even remotely think that he would survive, let alone be OK. But throw in some kind of technology that protects him from being torn to pieces by the insane g-forces he is supposed to be enduring and it would suddenly be OK. But they don't do that, they just assume that you are too dumb to understand that a quarter inch of steel will not protect you from basic physics, and that creates a disconnect and prevents me from enjoying the movie.

I want a SPINAL TAP sequel where there are only 2 guys from the original band whose guitars aren't even plugged in anymore when they do a live show.
They would be getting royalties from Metallica's black album, since the idea was stolen.

Yeah, the whole invulnerable thing bugs me too. Some of them are mutants, we get it, but their mutations aren't the ability to survive a 100ft fall onto concrete.

No, I hadn't seen it.
Robin Williams kills himself at the end of the first clip?!?
I'll watch the rest when I get home.

Rare that ANY movie has moved you emotionally? Maybe you have not seen very good movies.
What dreams may come... was powerful as hell. If a movie like that doesnt move you... then you have an emotional problem. heh I think the most moving movie Ive seen to date... was Joy Luck Club. Cry like a baby watching that movie. The things those woman went through... Then again, I can relate to a lot of suffering, being a child of physical and mental abuse, as well as neglect.
The fact is... that some people are in fact more emotional than others. And some are emotionally confused.. such as being emotional over an inanimate object (For example... Ive had someone tell me that they see tossed out furniture as being 'abandoned', and having some sort of emotional tie to them.. as they "Rescue" it from the evils of the garbage truck. Ive also seen someones dresser drawers filled with "Junk Salad".. and asking why not toss the useless crap out... ((or at least organize it)) it was said that it reminded them of certain time periods... so they didnt want to toss any of it... despite it being things like generic receipts... )
Ive also seen mentally problematic people, such as extreme OCD cases... where they like movies that have little dialog and or emotional response. I believe its because they dont have to think about all the things being said... and or it becomes more like an interpretation piece. They can fill the scene with whatever crud they choose.. and thats gratifying to them. They also dont have to argue with the dialog they find annoying. (Ive seen a few people whom scream and curse at their Radios and TVs, due to commericals. Ugg >.< They cant stop their insanity.. and cant stop their verbal reactions, it seems... or at least, they have a Really hard time doing so...
Which makes me wonder... if these people are some of the directors behind the cameras... such as Michale Bay.
The majority of films coming about these days tends to have no emotional connection to the characters at all.
You could care less if they got vaporized or not. They even seem to find actors.. that are monotone... such as the guy they picked to play in the Tron update. He has like Zero emotional range. Less range than Steven Seagal, and Seagal, you can kind of forgive him for that... because high level artists learn to be robotically calm. Very Zen like. Clear mind, emotionally controlled. With Tron dude... I felt Nothing at all. Id have been cool if they killed him off... pretty much anywhere in the movie. The original tron had Far more emotional content and character connection than the remake.
Looking at many other films, you see the same thing. All explosions and CGI, with little connection to the emotional content. Its boring. Tiresome. Empty. And even worse... is the fact that the Animation, look, and realism... is just awful. (as you had also pointed out)
It may also be part of a conspiracy, to create a generation of kids that do not have any emotional attachments... which has been brought up. Its also clear that they have been making use of the media in promotion of same sex relations... cross dressing...etc. As Ive seen an advertisement on Cartoon Network, for a children's cartoon, in which the lead boy gets superpowers... but only when hes dressed as a girl. Be what you want to be, and thats fine with me... but dont push an agenda on Children!
Didnt bother to see Turtles either. Despite mildly liking the cartoons. I could tell it was exactly the same soul-less emotionless drivel. Low quality Garbage. Most would find the original cartoons far more enjoyable than the remake movies.
If its bay, stay away. Dont give your money to lame directors like this.. just because you want to see how they butchered your youth. Dont give them the benefit of the doubt... because you HOPE that its going to be Great. It wont. Ever. All your doing is fueling further production of more Garbage.
If you wasted your time and money watching something that lame.. I feel sorry for you. Heck, I felt sorry for myself with the Tron remake... and far Worse with the Prequels. But I am proud of myself, for not dumping further buck into lackluster remakes. Its pretty much been proven pointless and futile. Save your money for spending on another Joystick, some music you like, a new tool, an arcade / pinball machine... even a fancy dinner... but 2 hrs wasted on emotionless drivel thats probably loaded with Propaganda? No thanks.
Eventually it will make its way to the bottom of the get-rid-of-it-bin... for 1.99$ .. or on TV, Netflix... if you Really must see the Train Wreck...
On the other hand... I DID risk it on Gaurdians, as the previews actually looked decent. It was Great! Great in Imax stereo 3d. Great characters. Great actors. Good comedy bits. Good story. Really good action. Its not perfect... but I actually have thought about paying to see it again... because it was so enjoyable.
I dont have so much a qualm about seeing a similar story loop.. as long as it actually has some emotional content and is actually enjoyable.

Nope, I see about 50-60 movies a year at the theater, and if I miss a few that looked even halfway entertaining I will catch it on dvd/bluray when it comes out. I also have no problem spending the $235 dollars per month for all the cable channels because I enjoy surfing movie channels late at night. I might not know what I am in the mood to watch, so Netflix and amazon aren't of much value to me, but when I can surf 60 or 70 movie channels I usually find something worth watching for a couple hours. Usually it ends up being something older because MOST movies that have come out in the last decade have no replay value for me. The funny thing is, late at night when I am in zombie mode, the "b" flicks are the ones that catch my interest. But then when I am wide awake I will watch one that I thought was really good and realize it is REALLY bad. still love watching them when the mood is right..
I enjoy movies, but it is rare when one actually moves me emotionally. That can mean a lot of different things, but in general, you have to have a fair amount of depth in a character for me to get "involved". But when you talk about the sheer volume of movies I watch in a year, "rare" can mean 3 or 4 per year..
Particularly with the lack of "suspension of disbelief" in so many movies now, I have a harder time looking at movies in any capacity other than just a couple hours of visual and audial entertainment. Stimulates the senses, not the emotions.
P.S., for someone so involved in martial arts and maintaining focus, your posts really do wander A LOT. Not trying to be critical but you took a wrong turn at Albuquerque there and ended up talking about Stephen Segal and people with OCD.. :dizzy:

Well, if you dont mind burning money and supporting horrible directors so that they continue to make more drivel not worth your.. and others time... :P
In many ways we have similar feelings and traits. I'm not usually one whom re-watched movies... unless they are quite stellar... and that means they are probably elder classics. (like Stripes, The Last Starfighter, The 5th Element, ... ) I tend to like to seek out new things, rather than re-experience the same. Especially those rare gems, such as "Sleepers" that often get overlooked. However, I dont have the resource$ nor time to waste on low quality entertainment... and try to keep from supporting incompetent's in cushy positions that they clearly dont deserve.
But per your comment about focus... you should understand that martial arts focus isnt linear. For example... if your focusing on the guys facial expressions and his hands... you will probably eat his foot. The best are those whom are aware of every nuance.. at any one moment in time. You must know your 3d position in space, you weapons reach. The Ops position. Their possible weapons and reach. Your foot angle, weight distribution, spinal alignment, hip angle and rotation, bent knees, shoulder and elbow positions, finite arm positions. Feeling and aware of every breath.. and every small sensation that happens... especially at an interception.
And beyond this... to even learn many of the real truths... that will actually work in reality... you must be a truth seeker. Most of the arts already have been corrupted and watered down into sport. As well as corrupt teachings, poor translations, bad reproduction, forgotten and lost knowledge... and intentionally left out Keys.
Figuring this out can be done.. usually if you are good at recognizing relationships and patterns in nature, and or the nature of the things in comparison. Also everything is about to be compared and linked in some way to something else. Exploring these depths, can gain you a lot of insight and knowledge. Stuff thats not going to be found in any normal source of information.
Because of my many passions, hobbies and interests... Ive learned things in so many areas of life, and have found many relationships between them. Knowledge in one field, helped me realize and excel in other fields. A simple example... is from the time period when I devoted all of my extra efforts into meditation and spiritual enlightenment. The deep breathing and the many healing things within it... Enhanced my speed, development and progression times.. when I started taking Martial arts. The proper breathing is a key that makes or breaks good technique. And the Meditation had given me the ability to completely clear my mind of internal chatter.
Thats huge, because that chatter would otherwise distract from the progression and learning absorption speed. It also lead to me listening to my body better.. to keep it more healthy. The mechanical experience Id gained, also help to understand the basic physics and principled of the movements... and their power usages.
I wont deny that I can get a little scattered at times. But what was posted was in fact all very related in some key manor...
and to make points that I feel should be made... with backing examples and theories of the hows and whys.

dkersten, did you tear up 10 minutes into "Up" ? a tug at the heartstrings when you watch Hachi or Marley and Me? If so, congrats, you are still human (like me)

Even the Undertaker sheds a tear in the first segment of Up.

Oh yeah, UP is one of my all time favorites. And I have watched some movies late at night in "zombie mode" that have touched me, only because in my state of vegetation I overlook the horrible acting, terrible scripts, and lack of character depth and just sink into the story. But usually those things keep me from really caring about the characters, so it becomes all about the "sight and sound" experience.
X2, I enjoy movies, which is why I go to so many. I don't go to support anyone, I do it because I like it. No ulterior motive other than ME. Tuesday nights is my "daddy daughter date night" and usually I take one of my daughters to a movie. I alternate weeks with my daughters (I have one for a week, then swap to the other the next week, they don't get along, and I have 50/50 custody with my ex wife). I also date a lot. So 1-2 movies a week is one of my forms of entertainment. This has nothing to do with giving money to Hollywood to produce crappy movies. And since my primary entertainment with movies comes from the visuals and the sound, seeing it on the big big screen with a really good audio system is the best. My theater is only a 100" screen with a relatively decent 5.1 system. Our theaters in town have some really good fully THX certified setups, and we have one that is an 80' high (21:9) screen with leather reclining seating and pretty fantastic audio. If I catch the movie in the first couple weeks it is out, I know I will end up on one of the premium screens, and it makes it worth it to me.
I read and write books, and when it comes to depth of character and a good story, that is where I get it. There are maybe 100 movies I have seen in my life that have really moved me, made an impression in more ways than just cool effects or cinematography, and that is out of thousands and thousands. But mostly movies just aren't about the story or the characters for me. When one hits that has great characters AND a story, it leaves an impression.

Since that video is directly released from Sony, I have to ask WTF is up with the "subliminal message" at 1:38?

My kids at least know who pacman is.
He's a cop or freedom fighter or something like that with an eating disorder according to the tv series on Netflix.
They will want to see this movie.
I hope its better than their current favorite Sandler film.
Blended.
Terry crews haming it up makes it worth watching in my opinion.
