Title: glass vs. ceramic fuses.
Post by: Sarver Systems on July 12, 2014, 12:25:02 am
pros and cons for each?

I thought a fuse was a fuse. Too much current and it blows.

I would think you'd prefer a glass fuse, since you can USUALLY tell when its blown.

And ceramic fuses are more expensive.

Ceramic fuses are used in applications where heat is involved such as microwave ovens.

the ceramic fuses are often filled with sand. if a high voltage goes high load and blows the fuse, the fuse blows and the sand stops an arc from forming.

a regular glass fuse can blow, and the resulting film left on the glass from the vaporized filament can allow the high voltage arc to strike and cause further damage.
