I normally (stupidly) let you guys know about deals before I get mine, and they sell out. This time I went ahead and bought one though. I might buy another next month if the sale is still on.
Anyway, these are refurbished computers.... right now they have a big sale on the HP/Compaq units. The prices are already low, but if you enter the coupon code "HPDeal" you get an additional 80 dollars off.
I got a core 2 duo 3.00ghz with 4 gigs of ram for 83 bucks!
For the record these are PCs with the OS installed, win 7 home edition usually.
So if you are wanting a cheap, yet fairly high-end pc for a mame cab build now is the time.... the hdd sizes aren't great, but they are decent. I think this one has 160 gb.
So basically I need to find a video card and it's ready to go.
(BTW, 3.00 ghz core 2 duo is the minimum specs to run Mortal Kombat/Injustice... I've been told you can usually over-clock these to around 3.5 ghz as well).
-
Be careful, a lot of these may have motherboards without an external video card slot. I am having trouble viewing the site, so I cannot verify. I do think it's a pretty good deal though.
-
Are these fast enough to play Gauntlet Legends?
-
I'm not sure if anything is fast enough to play gauntlet legends, but when it comes in I'll try it. ;)
-

Well there are several form factors to choose from. With micro and small FF I think that would be a concern, but I got a regular desktop. I can't think of a good reason why they would sell a desktop sized machine without room for expansion. Even if I need to get a motherboard though, I only paid 80 bucks, which is the cost of a win 7 license anyway.

if you enter the coupon code "HPDeal" you get an additional 80 dollars off.
IS it a % discount or $80 and is it only on certain systems ?? (I see they have a couple $82 - $125 systems that I doubt would get you $80 off :dunno ) (ie. http://arrowdirect.com/hp-compaq-compaq-dc7600-3-00ghz-pd-desktop-160gb-2048mb.html (http://arrowdirect.com/hp-compaq-compaq-dc7600-3-00ghz-pd-desktop-160gb-2048mb.html) )
EDIT : Just checked a few and it doesn't work on all of them but it did give $80 off a $123 system making it $43 for an older HP/COMPAQ BUSINESS DESKTOP DC5750 MT 2Ghz AMD ATHLON 64 X2 80GB 1024MB. And the shipping quote says only $9 to ship it Fed Ex Ground !
-
Yeah it doesn't work with "free" computer obviously. I think the cheapest you can get depending upon the day is around 20 bucks.
-
I just picked up a perfect working Xbox for $5 at Goodwill.
Considering it plays Gauntlet Legends.....
-
Xbox plays the inferior dark legacy and requires both analog and digital inputs.
-
Ok it came in today... the ups guy left it on the porch for anyone to pilfer.... good thing I was in.
I just spent 20 min or so setting it up, I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase thus far.
It came in and looked brand new, I had to turn the thing around to find the "grade B imperfection" that was the scratch on the back of the access door.
As described, 3ghz core 2 duo with 4 gigs of ram. I popped it open and there's a vid card expansion slot, a full pcie and a micro one. One memory slot is still available. The MB had hdmi built in, which means it's a fairly recent machine so all the bus speeds are nice and peppy. It was nice and clean inside as well... it's been rebuilt... no dust bunnies. It came with win 7 home 64bit, which I was a bit concerned with when ordering... often with these refurb units they try to get cheap on you and put 32 bit windows on there.
It's not hooked up to the network yet so I just put mame and crusin-usa on a thumb drive for an initial test.... ran 105% which is actually better than my "good" desktop does and I haven't put a video card in yet! So yeah pbj, with some tweaking it might run gauntlet dl..... I'll try it when I get a chance.
All in all I would say I got off with a good deal. The only bad mark I can give the site is their lack of customer service. I never got an email saying the computer was shipped or on it's way, ect... just a confirmation from paypal. I tried to contact them via their paypal contact info, but it was invalid. By the time I figured out it they had an automated form on the website to contact them, it had come in.
Regardless, I'm going to give this one a month and see how it does. If it holds up I'll buy another next month.
-
Seems like they're even cheaper today... have a couple in my cart at ~$45ish shipped.
-
Just make sure you get a desktop or tower model. SFF and Micro probably won't let you put a vid card in.
It sucks they are even cheaper but ah well... I'll just get a better deal on the next one.
-
Are these fast enough to play Gauntlet Legends?
:laugh2:
-
Just to try to benchmark this thing I fired up legends. Runs around 80-90% if you set the resolution dip to medium or high res. At low res it runs at 100%. So yeah, it'll run it surprisingly.
-
I just picked up a Core 2 Duo, 3Ghz, 4Mb RAM, Win 7 Pro, 160 Gb HD... :applaud:
-
Now we just need to find one of the sites that tell the settings for over-clocking this model. This particular hp model has been OC'ed to 4ghz with extra cooling, 3.5-3.6 with stock parts.
-
Thanks for the heads up on this! Just picked up a model with the same specs as you (3.0ghz core 2 duo 4gigs ram 160gig hd)... although I didn't realize until after I ordered that it was SFF so a video card upgrade is most likely out of the question. I am primarily concerned with being able to run Hyperspin+MAME and I just need something powerful enough to run games like Shuffleshot without stuttering, and given that my current arcade PC was built in 1999 this will most certainly be a huge step up haha. Either way the price alone beats the hell out of some of the other options I was considering!
-
What's better: Athlon II X2 or Core 2 Duo? Both 3.0 ghz, same hd, same ram, same price...?
-
Well the mame devs say the intel stuff is better. Amd traditionally speaking is the inferior, yet cheaper choice... so when they are the same price, so intel.
-
Cool. I ordered a core 2 duo. Thanks for the fast reply and for posting the deal!
-
That code doesn't work anymore. :(
-
Search dealnews.com... they recently posted some other coupons for the site, including a 50% off one.
-
Yup...Last thing I really needed was another PC...I was able to resist the core-2-duo's but a really affordable box to run steam in big picture mode was on my wish list. I picked up a i5 tower with 8gigs of ram and a 320gb HD with Win 7.
-

I've been dinking around for the last three days with a @2003 HP 2.6GHz P4 that I got for free, trying to get the silly thing to hold together long enough to load XP Home ... first a RAM slot went bad, then PSU died, then the XP load gimped somehow ... saw this post and thought pffft done!
I got the same thing (SFF 3.0 GHz, Core2Duo, 4GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Win 7 Home) shipped for @ $52. If I'm reading the HP spec sheet right, it should have 2 PCIe x16x (low-profile) slots available. 'Course if you de-case it or just pop the top, you should be able to fit a full-height card in there. Stock PSU limits add-on graphics card to 35w, though ....
-
It has two and a one of those micro slots.
The wattage shouldn't be much of an issue. You'll want to get a low profile card with the thing and low profile cards don't pull a lot of power.
I picked up one of these today to go in it:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131338 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131338)
It isn't a great card by any means but my current desktop has a hd 4600 in it and manages to play Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition and Street Fighter IV and after rebate I'll only be set back 10 bucks. I also read a very old article in regards to the older, 512mb version of this card in crossfire mode. It's performance still isn't stellar, but if you buy two, you'll literally double your performance, which is rare for a crossfire setup.
-
I got the Dell Optiplex 760 3.0 SFF 160HD 4096 Ram for $80 shipped with DEALNEWS coupon.
Thanks Howard. I'll have to start making excuses why I need another PC....
-
I am looking for an excuse :dunno
-
I've been watching the Arrow site for a few days. It is real interesting how the inventory and prices fluctuate. It is like watching a commodities market.
-
I think they get businesses' computers back when they buy em on lease. What they charge probably has a lot to do with what they paid.
-
I think they get businesses' computers back when they buy em on lease. What they charge probably has a lot to do with what they paid.
Looks like they are mainly a Refurbisher that gets off lease product and refurbs it and then sells at a small markup to third party resellers mainly (ie. the ones that sell cheap refurbs on craigslist etc. probably purchase from them to relist on craigslist etc.). Kind of makes you wonder if the pricing with the coupon codes is the same as the discount offered to resellers that use them or if the resellers get even better pricing from them by signing up. :dunno
But they must be doping a fairly brisk amount of sales to be able to offer $8.99 shipping on systems As I know I sure can't find that kind of price for shipping a computer system - anytime I've looked the shipping made it more costly than the system was worth to ship it even to a nearby location.
-

Or the Government has upgraded it's Windows XP machines. Which would explain abundance of Dell and HPs.
The shipping is UPS ground. It will take a week to get up my lonely mountain.
I'll get ---my bottom--- kicked for buying it, but looking at the specs it would make for a pretty good lab computer. Try explaining the need for lab computers to noobs....
-
Yeah it's hard to work on crap without some spare PCs lying around. Even outside of a work environment... let's say your main pc gets hit with a nasty virus or has some sort of hardware failure. You really need a separate, working pc to download/order the stuff you need to fix it.
-
Well to give Fedex some credit they managed to deliver my PC today, instead of Monday and I am completely impressed. Before I opened the box I was expecting some crap that has been bounced down the stairs a few times, but no it looks like it came from Dell nice and clean with only a few scratches where the desk lock has been. Thanks to Howard (again) I have a nice and quiet bare metal ESXi server. This unit also had a Display Port, even though it is currently headless, makes compatibility toward monitor configurations a breeze.
-
New code seems to be DNDELL40 which gets you 40% off Dell products and Free shipping !!
-
HPSLICK50 gets you 50% off HP and free shipping...

Anything capable of running Gauntlet Legends 100% on sale?
I think Malenko has what you need...
-
Are you sure he... has what he neeeeds? Cause they say he's just a friend.... yes they say he's just a friend.
-
Oh, baby, you got a disease.
You say it's just a rash,
but it's all over your ass.
Oh baby...
-
HPSLICK50 is good for monitors, too. A number of 19" models available for $20-$23 shipped. Shaw.
-
You know I didn't even think about monitors.
If you look at their selection they have a number of 19 inch 4:3 monitors. These are undesirable for most, so they are priced really low, but for us 4:3 monitors are great.
-

Just watch the quality rating also -- they seem to have several "C" rated which can have several dead pixels or scratches on the monitor - at the prices listed and with the 50% off code it's probably better to avoid the "C" ratings and go for either "B" or "A" quality instead ! Since it is just a couple bucks difference.
From their site :
Scratch & Dent ‘C or Q Grade: Has more minor scratches, scuffs, dents, cracks than a B grade system and/or moderate to major cosmetic defects. This can include paint removed on the body or work surface, missing or broken bezels, missing plastic parts, broken latches and hinges and stains that are permanent including paint, stickers, and ink. If the product has an LCD there could be less than 3 minor small scratches and 2-3 bad pixels. C grade products are discounted accordantly, fully tested and functional.
Also looks like HPslick50 expired but for monitors Slickmon is working for 50% off refurbished Monitors and free shipping (code found on Retailmenot.com )
-
Well I don't need one atm. I've got a 19 inch IC right now... the last 4:3 I've bought that I need to put in a project.
Hmm... for the racing cab I could buy 3 at that price though..... curse you Arrow Direct and your low, low prices!!!
-

LOL --- also with the slickmon code it works on all brands I think so you're not stuck with Dell or HP branded so they have quite a selection ! - Just looked and they have a 32" SAMSUNG widescreen (SAMSUNG 320PX 32) for $91.70 + tax after code !
But yeah a 3 screen setup with 3 19 inch 4:3 monitors for $70 +\- is a pretty good deal ! Just have to find one model that they have more than 3 units of !
EDIT : Just ordered a Dell Ultrasharp 17" 4:3 for $18.97 including Tax and Fedex shipping !!
-
... curse you Arrow Direct and your low, low prices!!!
Yes. Dadgumit. I felt compelled to order another DC7900 3GHz machine and a 19" HP 5:4 grade A monitor last night (apparently before the HPSLICK50 coupon expired).
The WAF is going to take a dive ... better get going on those honey-dos. >:D
-
Are you sure he... has what he neeeeds? Cause they say he's just a friend.... yes they say he's just a friend.
actually, I dont. I sold the gauntlet legends board on KLOV , it took about 3 hours to sell.
-
My shiny new GPU came in for the cheap desktop I purchased, now I have a budget relatively high performing gaming PC.
Intel i5, 8gb ram, Geforce 750 Ti 2gb. Total spent, $286, really nice that it came with the OS.
Its pretty quiet too. I am pleased.
-
Does it play gauntlet 100%?
-
Does it play gauntlet 100%?
You know what...I don't know... I might have to check...
Probably has nothing to do with my new graphics card though. but I finally will get to check out Skyrim.
My old computers are more than enough for my MAME needs.
The games I like most take almost nothing to run. What does it take to run Gauntlet Legends at 100%? I've always prefered the original which plays on anything.
-
Looks like the HPSLICK50 code (50% off HP systems and free shipping) is working again -- not sure if it just was not working when I tried it the other day or they reinstated it but tried it just now and it is working again. SO best thing to do is keep all the codes and try them on the day you are ordering !
-
Hmm. The HPSLICK50 and SLICKMON codes are working for 50% for monitors, but no longer free shipping.
Maybe that's a good thing for me .... :dunno
-
$19 Dell Ultrasharp 17" 4:3 monitor came in today -- Must say it looks good so far (have not had a chance to test for dead pixels etc. yet) -- It came with the AC cord and VGA cable with DVI adapter - really nice stand that rotates and changes height and has 4 USB slots. Did have one scratch on the back side and a couple marks on the bezel area but screen is scratch free. Here's a compilation pic for those interested in the type of condition to expect for the "B" grade units. Unfortunately the Free shipping seems to no longer work but even for the extra $9 shipping it would be a decent deal.
EDIT : Just tested and the monitor is in perfect shape no Dead Pixels and color is nice and sharp.
-
So far I've snatched 2 2001FP's and 1 2007FP. >:D
-
So far I've snatched 2 2001FP's and 1 2007FP. >:D
Nice -- I'll probably pick up a larger screen one later but was looking for a 17" for now and once I saw the 1708FP decided to go with it as the rotating stand and USB ports come in very handy. Now just have to get the PC (wanted to test the waters first before investing in a system but looks like it is definitely a good place to get them from !)
Has anyone tried the Dealer sign up to see what kind of discounts they offer that way ??
EDIT : Haruman -- Just noticed they have one 2001FP mismarked as a 19" monitor so it's $15 cheaper ($43 before discount rather than $58) than the others if you're still looking to pick up more !
-
It's official: I have a problem.
Couldn't resist the temptation on an NEC LCD2170NX 21" PVA monitor for ~$40 shipped.
-
I took the credit card off of my desk and put it in my wallet. I've got to pace myself.
-
So far I've snatched 2 2001FP's and 1 2007FP. >:D
HAruman - Was just looking at an old review of the 2001FP and it mentioned them having a composite video input -- do the ones you got have this ?? (reason I ask is if they do they'd make great monitors for those NAMCO Plug-n-Play units !!) and at $40 +/- would make for a fairly cheap bartop build ! -- Might just have to place another Order :banghead:
Got confirmation from Haruman on the composite input -- So Order placed Found a 2001FP miscategorized as a 19" monitor so paid $32.61 including tax and $8.99 shipping.
-
Yup, VGA, DVI, Composite, and S-Video
-
Sigh....
My order arrived this morning; a 20" LP2045W Monitor and a Core2Duo machine. Was surprised how fast it got here (I only ordered it last Friday).
Then I looked at the cables that came with it... monitor came with a VGA cable, but has DVI only inputs.

Bummer -- Mine came with a VGA cable also but had a slightly broken VGA - DVI Adapter ( Cracked case so VGA portion was loose but some hot glue fixed it up !! )

I need another Core2Duo for a project and can't find a better coupon than 20% off (US20). Anybody else have a better one that currently works?

Not much better but "arrowep" is 30% off -- seems most of the 50% off ones expired and that's the best I can find right now. Also if that doesn't work "retailmenot25" gives 25%.
-
30% is better than 20%. I wish they 50% ones still worked though.
Thanks JDFan.

"Coupon code "DNDELL40" is not valid (Dealers please login to receive discounts)."

Yeah, it was from 9/26 or so. I do know with some of the previous codes, you needed to have some kind of a minimum (it never stated how much) for the code to work.
-
Just ordered DELL ULTRASHARP 1905FP 19" monitor. Used code arrowep for 30% off.
The discount saved me the taxes and shipping.
I chose this monitor because it supposedly has 85 degree viewing angles horz. (Googled specs on it).
I think it will be good for cocktail cabinet or rotating monitor.
Thanks for the tip and the code!

I'm pretty sure You'll like it -- I got the same one for $32 (so about $6 less than current price) when they had the 50% slickmon code and plugged it in to my desktop when it arrived to see how it looked (instead of my Acer 21" widescreen) and haven't switched back yet ! The color reproduction is great and the viewing angle also. definitely worth the price (seeing they retailed for close to $500 when they were released) and the USB hub comes in handy also (though they don't include the USB cable to connect to your PC with the monitor)
The Dell Stand it comes with is very heavy duty and easily rotates the 90 degrees to switch from horizontal to vertical and back and has a good amount of up\down and side to side angle adjustment so might be useful if you do go with the rotatable mounting. (though it would add a good amount of weight if you use the stand in a build)
-
Just got the monitor today. Pretty fast shipping.
It was packed pretty good, but the cables were free to bounce around inside the box. But the screen was protected by a smaller cardboard box, and the monitor couldn't move.
The cosmetic appearance is very good, haven't found any scratches anywhere.
It shows a good sharp picture and I don't see any dead pixels.
Im happy with this purchase (Grade B so I was expecting some scruff marks, but don't see any yet.)
:w00t

For those still needing a monitor for a build -- Looks like they have another 50% off and free shipping sale going for the next couple days using code "RMN50" !! -- so for instance a Dell 1908FP monitor for $24.37 including Shipping and TAX charged in Texas (not sure if other states are charged tax or at what rate so may vary)
Might be a good time to pick an extra monitor up for those holiday builds

Have you bought one of the grade b's from there before? If so, what was your experience?
OTOH, dinner at a burger place costs more than that sometimes.

I've bought 3 in the past on sale - a 1708FP for $18 shipped , 1905FP for $28 and 2001FP for $35 all Dell Ultrasharp monitors and all have been "B" grade not a single dead or stuck pixel - each had a few minor scratches on the case but screens were perfect. Just ordered another 1905FP (went with it instead of the 1908FP since even though it is a slower response time it has much better viewing angles) - couldn't pass it up for the $24 shipped as you say dinner costs more at times and I'll get much more use out of it eventually ! Only one that was a bit dissapointing was the 2001FP as it did not include the power adapter so wound up spending another $8 for a used adapter for it but still worth the $43 ($35 + $8) it wound up costing. ( since it also has Composite input and will probably get used with one of the Jakks plug and plays using Composite inputs )
They are definitely worth buying when on sale like they currently are ( esp. right now with the Free shipping ( 2 of the others I paid shipping @$8 per monitor) and already marked down 25% then with the extra 50% off with the RMN50 code !)
Here's a repost of the pics of the 1708FP when it arrived (NOTE : What I thought was a larger scratch on the back side was actually dirt and wiped off with a damp cloth !!) :

Expires 11/29/14
Details: Get 50% off Laptops, Tablets, PCs + Free shipping. Ends 11/29/2014
Seems it works on monitors as well though not mentioned !
Use either code : "Friday" or "Super50"
So good time to pick up those parts you want at a discount.
-
New 60% off +Free shipping code (not sure when it expires) "TBHOLIDAY50" (Seems "friday" and "super50" codes are also still working and updated to 60% off + free shipping as well !)
Wound up getting a HP COMPAQ ELITE 8000 3.00GHZ CORE 2 DUO SMALL FORM FACTOR 250GB 4096MB for $57.67 (including $4.39 tax charged for Texas) - Says it comes with no OS (I've got about 5 XP licenses and a win 7 Home Professional license that are not being used right now so didn't need one anyway)
It is scheduled to arrive today (Original schedule said Monday but was updated this AM. as on truck for delivery) so will post some pics of the unpacking for those wondering what a "B" grade system looks like when it arrives.
-
I've picked up a couple of b grade systems from them, they ate actually still really nice
-

Yeah all of the monitors I've picked up have looked almost new and were "B" grade but this is the first system I picked up so will see what it looks like.
Figure these sales are really great with the free shipping (usually $12) I mean you can pick up a 15" monitor for $10.33, a 17" for $19.10, or a 19" for $23.39 (including Tax and shipped to the door) which is better than I can find on local Craigslist.
With the $58 system and a $23 19" monitor it makes for a really cheap bartop\cocktail setup esp if you also get the $5 Minimus encoder from Xconsoles.coms "weekly special" (that's been running for months)

I've got some dell PC in my cart for $8 shipped right now

Sweet!!!
Im heading over to the store now.
-
Got the $57 system today and must say I'm very pleased !!!
It said no OS was included but has the COA for Windows 7 Pro on the case :applaud: which is an unexpected addition for the price -- also included a USB keyboard and mouse and Power cord - the insides look perfect (very thoroughly cleaned and parts look new - on first looks at the case it seems to be pretty much scratch free so much better condition than I was expecting for a "B" grade unit.
Here is a compilation pic of the system unboxing : (will update again after plugging it in and testing but do not have time right now)

Sweet! Just ordered a 3ghz Sony Viao and a 19 inch monitor for $37 shipped ($38.50, but got an additional 3% ebates cashback). Will be perfect for a cheap build. Hopefully the stock GeForce FX5200 isn't yoinked from the machine.
-
Had some time to test the new system out today and as listed it came with no OS installed but the case did have a COA sticker on it for Windows 7 Pro. So created an OEM Windows 7 Install disk using an image downloaded from Digital River ( Loaded it onto a usb thumbdrive and renamed the ei.cfg file ( This allows the installation of a chosen version of windows 7 with any image since this is the file that tells windows which version to install - so removing it from the iso makes the installer put up a list of versions to choose from rather than just installing the one version) -- Selected Win 7 Pro from the list and it installed perfectly. Put in the key code from the sticker during install and after the installation finished up connected to my router and ran the activation ( It would not automatically activate so had to use phone activation ) Put in the activation id displayed on the phone activation screen and it immediately verified - typed in response code and the install activated !
So for the $57 - got a 3GHZ. Core 2 duo system with 4GB of DDR3 1033Mhz. RAM and a 250GB Seagate Barracuda HDD and a 16x DVD rom player with windows 7 Pro 64 bit. :applaud: (about 1/3 the cost of the OEM license itself)
Turned out to be an even better deal than I thought it was going to be -- Only 1 small thing is the system does not keep the date\time setting if unplugged ( I think the CMOS battery is shot - so will need to replace it but it is a fairly easy swap, so not a big problem ! )
-
Can it play gauntlet legends 100%?

Can it play gauntlet legends 100%?
LOL - was wondering when you'd ask (was beginning to feel left out !)) -- Question is does the Arcade PCB play it at 100% ??

Are these gaming computers?!
More likely off lease business machines. Just add a good video and they'll be serviceable gaming rigs.

^THIS -- They are mostly off lease systems that were rented by a business for x number of years and then when the lease expired were sent to a third party refurbisher to repair as needed and resell -- so are a few years old but most of them make a good base for a MAME system (the older ones are usually enough to run the classic 80's and 90's games while some of the newer ones with i3, i5 or even the few i7's are more capable (but also more expensive though cheaper than retail pricing).
Figure they mainly need a graphics card added to run more of the modern games but for the price you get a decent starting point and many of them include a legal copy of windows which would cost more than the entire systems (ie. the $57 system I bought came with a product key for windows 7 Professional 64 bit which still sells for about $130 - 2 2GB DDR3 1066Mhz. RAM modules (Approx $40 retail) - A Seagate Barracuda 250GB Sata HDD (approx $25 retail) - A core 2 Duo 3.0GHz. E8400 CPU (approx $30 retail) - a 250W high efficiency Power supply (approx $25 retail) - USB mouse and Keyboard ( approx $10 retail ) - DVD rom player (approx $5 retail) - Etc. - so will run pretty much all of the classic 80's and 90's games as is and If I add a $40 - $50 GPU will be fine for most of the street fighter type fighting games etc. as well (though I bought the small form factor case so adding the video card requires a half height card If leaving in the case)
Mainly what you want to do is look for a ssytem at a good price and then research the specs etc. on it to ensure it fits your needs (they do not provide much info on their site so a bit of research is needed)

I just ordered a 3.2Ghz P4 with 1GB for $16.79. :applaud:
I'm reworking my nephew's cab now that he's a bit older and my sister is ok with him beating people up on screen (simpsons, tmnt).
The 600mhz P3 that's in there now was probably going to severely limit the game selection, even with using an older version of MAME (have .79 on there now).
Definitely worth $17 to not have to deal with it. I'll just throw v.106 on there and be done.
How fast is their shipping? I'd like to have this done in time to deliver when I visit for Christmas.

They usually ship same day or next and use Fedex Ground so about 2 - 3 business days once shipped depending on how close you are to where it is shipped from. ( my last order I placed on Wednesday and it arrived Saturday (schedule said monday but it arrived early ) - You'll probably have it Thursday or Friday !

I couldn't resist getting a beater Laptop...i5, with 8 gigs ram...under $200, got it in two days and it is nice...If it had a GPU it could replace my main laptop. As long as I'm home I can stream games from my desktop (which I also bought for under $200 from Arrow) ...earlier in this thread I mentioned throwing a GPU in it. (I haven't tried gauntlet Legends :dunno)

I figured it would possibly play the 80's and 90's games but didnt know so much about its ability to play games such as W.O.W. Or if I need a faster operating system.

When you get it let me know if it includes a COA for the OS ( of the 184 Core2duo systems they have only 5 say they have an OS) -- I've noticed most of the systems they have now are saying no OS but these systems all used to have windows on them so am wondering if Microsoft no longer lets them install win 7 since they discontinued win 7 sales, so Arrow is saying no OS included since they have no more win 7 licenses but most of them have the original COA still :dunno

Sure thing.
I thought it was a great price for a full C2D. I got a few of the DC7900s, but I hate the power brick.

They most likely will have the original COA...Both of the systems I've ordered were labled "with OS" and came with a new COA for windows 7 pro that was for refurbished PCs, They also have the original OEM COA on there. but there was a note to use the new one...I would assume that 95% of the OEM COAs will still work since most businesses are using an enterprise licenses and can't be bothered with one-of activations.

Was thinking the same thing - I've never had one that didn't activate (in fact I've actually used both the old and new codes on 2 different systems at times after buying a refurb.) - the only time the original COA's would have been used is if they reformatted\reinstalled prior to returning off lease but since the systems are still the original MOBOs the COA license is usually still valid and will reactivate leaving the refurb license activateable on a new system also !! :dunno
Was just wondering if the refurbishers could no longer offer the refurb licenses for win 7 since MS had stopped retail sales thus they were selling the rest of the systems as NO OS (which seems to be the case since only 5 of the 200 or so systems Arrow currently has in stock mention coming with an OS.)

They didn't bill my credit card for the sales tax shown on the invoice, so $16 for a 3.2Ghz P4 with 1GB ram and 40GB hard drive delivered to my door.
Much to my surprise they included a new in the box mouse and a like new keyboard.

Yeah you have to watch the Ultra Small Form Factor units and some of the monitors that use external AC adapters rather than internal power supplies -- I had the same thing happen with a 2001FP monitor If you look at the details for the systems it will usually list if it comes with the AC adapter. Luckily I found a used adapter on EBAY for $7 for my monitor but even that does add to the overall cost.
Looks like the Lenovo USFF systems use a 19V 6.3Amp adapter so this $10 unit should work (a bit expensive but it is new) http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-120W-19v-6-15A-AC-Adapter-Power-Supply-charger-for-Sony-VAIO-VGP-AC19V45-/140879114726?pt=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item20cd0cb1e6 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-120W-19v-6-15A-AC-Adapter-Power-Supply-charger-for-Sony-VAIO-VGP-AC19V45-/140879114726?pt=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item20cd0cb1e6)

:hissy: Well that sucks ! -- What type of tip does it use ? Perhaps a little bit of a modification could get it working - Figure with it being only 19V output shouldn't be too much power going through to splice the wiring together inside the case or add a different type of connector if you remove the end of the cable (figure it's only 2 wires that need to connect and the adapter is the correct Voltage )

The one on the case has that fat pin in the middle, the one on the PS I got has a very thin pin in the center.

Just got my second PC from arrow direct, a Dell 3000.
Unlike the first one, this one was not in pristine condition.
It looked like it had been dropped. A top corner of the front plastic cover was cracked and the cd rom tray would not open.
Removed front cover and had a time getting the side cover off. Found the corner of the cd rom broken, probably why the tray wont open.
It looks like the case may be warped because I could not insert another cd rom in the space below the installed one. (Very tight, they usually slide in with very little resistance.)
Inside was pretty dusty, with a couple of big dust bunnies.
Vacuumed it out, removed and tossed the modem PCI card (does anyone really use dial up anymore?)
Currently have a good cd rom laying on top of the case and installing win XP.
It booted ok, and everything else appears to be working, so this is a keeper, but probably a de-caser.
The case must have been dropped during packing, because the box it came in wasn't damaged, and it was packed pretty good in the box.
But for 17 bucks including shipping (dell50 code), I cant complain too much.

What grade rating was it ?? Usually something with that kind of damage would be "C" rated which is kind of a scratch and dent rating but even that shouldn't have a bunch of dust bunnies etc. - Glad to hear it is at least working, did the XP COA come with the case or are you putting on a copy you had already ?

I think it was B, but cant swear to it, and I don't see it on the receipt.
It had a XP product key sticker on it, but when it booted it said it couldn't find the OS, so I installed a XP copy I have.
It's a little slow, I think I have another stick of ram I can add to it, will probably speed it up. (has 256 meg now).
Mame and NES seems to run fine on it.

During a quick trip to Fry's Electronics, I found the "replacement power plug tip" section. A quick bit of Googling, and I found the size I needed. Brought it home, snipped off the old one, soldered on the new, and it's up and booting. No OS, so I'm putting on W7 (it has a Vista sticker on it).
Thanks for the help, JDF.

I am going to have to cut myself off...Friends and family are in need of solid laptops. Just ordered Two more dell notebooks. A Latitude 6320 and a 5520. Both just over $200 after "dealnews" 50% off with 4 gigs and 2nd gen core "I" CPUs The 6320 has a solid state HD Which I am going to replace to use for myself.

coupon code not valid? I gotta sign up to see the discount or..? :dunno

The codes tend to start and stop at random ... try WINTER20 for 20% off.
-
There is a RetailMeNot25 code for 25% off of $200+ that was working but all the 50% off coupons are expired. I think US20 also works for 20% and floating around I thought I saw a $10 off any order coupon.
I'm sure the 50% sales will come again

I wish I saw the 50% dell last week when it was still up :'(
Now subscribing for a heads up.

Yeah the 50% (or even 60% off on black friday) sales were pretty good especially when combined with the free shipping (saving $12 per item) I picked up a 3Ghz core2duo machine with 4GB ram and a 250GB HDD for $58 that said it had no OS but came with a COA for Win7 Pro that activated the OS install just fine.
currently as mentioned the codes that are working seem to be 20% off the listed price (US20 or Winter20) or $10 off which is sometimes better for small purchases (10offany) for a larger purchase I believe (25off100) is still working for $25 off any order over $100 or as mentioned 25% off any order over $200 (retailmenot25).
Hopefully they will run another 50% off sale soon.

I nominate JDFan in charge of telling us when all the Arrow deals pop up. Any seconders? Thirders?

LOL -- Only problem is the more I keep track of their website the more stuff I end up ordering !! :dizzy:
Besides it seems it doesn't do much good to post about it - I bumped it a couple times when the sale started and Locke141 still missed it :dunno
I've signed up to receive their E-mails so as things show Up I'll try to remember to post them here also.

This is a +1 for customer assistance bump.
Before placing my order, I emailed my brother to ask him if I could order it to his place and if he would hold it for me till I'm back in the US this summer. Being Dyslexic , I read his reply as "Buy it now. I'll set it up for you as a birthday gift. So I ordered it and sent him the confirmation email. He then emailed that he already ordered one for my birthday. His original email read "Buying it now.....". Because we pay for the internet by the GB in Tanzania, I thought having him setup Hyper spin with the EMU movies was the gift. That alone would have saved me a lot of time and money.
That was last Saturday. I was able to call them fist thing Monday at 8am EST to cancel my double order. They were supper nice and it took about 5min.
Bro just called to tell me it has arrived.
For $189 after tax an shipping I got an LENOVO THINKCENTRE M71E 3.10GHZ INTEL CORE I5 GEN2 SMALL FORM FACTOR 250GB 4096MB.

just got an i3 with 2GB RAM, 250 GB HD and Win 7 Pro license for 175 shipped

Its for work, I got the best balance of crummy and low cost for the guy in the shipping department. I might can try to run GL on it, but its got onboard video, so probably like ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

I dont know what that means.

Is it safe to assume a board that runs an i5 has a pci-e slot suitable for installing a modern video card?
The reason I ask is because I had an e machine with a Dell board that had 2 ram slots that were never installed.

Wouldn't assume it had one I've seen OEM MOBOs where the connector was not installed same as those with 2 rather than 4 Ram slots. - especially if it is an Ultra small form factor. What I usually do is take the model # and do a search on Ebay for that model MOBO to check (can usually find at least a few photos of the MOBO for these older systems to confirm if it does have one) If you can't find a MOBO pic then usually looking at reviews for that model will list whether it has a PCI-e slot or not - Between the 2 you can usually confirm if it does have one.
Though Nowadays almost all MOBOs have at least 1 PCI-e x16 slot and PCI-e x1 slots (since many are now coming without PCI slots as more add on cards are being designed for PCI-e x1 slots rather than PCI - so chances are it will have.)

Only somewhat safe if its a tower or mid sized desktop.
Some of the small form factor can fit a low profile pcie card but I would assume no for the ultra small form factors.
-
The small form factor Lenovo I just got has one pci x16 and two pci x1. You can usually look it up by model number, can't you?

I recommended an i3 and posted a link to the ones at arrow in Sshado's build thread about an hour before your post saying that you just bought one.

Funny thing, I was walking around Fry's electronics yesterday, and I saw they had a Raspberry Pi Model B+ on the shelves, which I had never seen before, so I impulse-bought one.

Oh, I haven't bought from Arrow. I was just replying to the suggestion that I didn't read the manual. Anyway, I was looking at one of the dells. the manual from dell was for all 3 pcs. Its just as well, it cuts down on the impulse buys. I've got to many cases that aren't booting as it is.

I usually look up an image of the MOBO in google and then verify it is the correct model For example the only current I3 I see that is DELL is the Optiplex 390 w 250GB HDD and 4096 RAM for $220 before discounts, Tax and Shipping
A quick Google search for images of the MOBO comes up with This pic :
(http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Njc1WDkwMA==/z/NjUAAMXQrhdTUJkD/$_57.JPG)
From This Ebay Listing ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELL-0GDG8Y-OptiPlex-390-MIH61R-Intel-H61-1155-Motherboard-Fast-Free-Shipping-/281442070659?_trksid=p2054897.l4275 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELL-0GDG8Y-OptiPlex-390-MIH61R-Intel-H61-1155-Motherboard-Fast-Free-Shipping-/281442070659?_trksid=p2054897.l4275) ) which shows it as a Micro ATX MOBO with 2 Ram slots, 1 PCI-e x16 and 3 PCI-e x1 slots !
THen to confirm I looked up another Ebay listing for the Optiplex 390 which listed the following info
Product Identifiers
Brand Dell
Model Optiplex 390
MPN bpctm5sn4
And searching that Manufacturer part number ( bpctm5sn4 ) brought up a shopping.com article ( http://www.shopping.com/xSBS-Dell-Dell-OptiPlex-360-MT-Desktop-Computer-DDR2-SDRAM-1-0GB-160GB-dell-dell-optiplex-390-sff-desktop-computer-intel-core-i3-2100-processor-3-1ghz-3m-bpctm5sn4~PRDLT-77630861-109820594?sb=1 (http://www.shopping.com/xSBS-Dell-Dell-OptiPlex-360-MT-Desktop-Computer-DDR2-SDRAM-1-0GB-160GB-dell-dell-optiplex-390-sff-desktop-computer-intel-core-i3-2100-processor-3-1ghz-3m-bpctm5sn4~PRDLT-77630861-109820594?sb=1) ) which listed the Specs for the optiplex 390 they were selling as :
Motherboard
Expansion Slots PCI Express x16 x 1 • PCI x 2
Video Output Interface PCI Express
Expansion Bays 2 x 3.5' (Internal Access) • 2 x 5.25' (External Access) • 1 x 3.5' (External Access)
Installed Cache Memory 512 KB
Chipset Intel G31 Express
Which also stated 1 PCI-e x16 and 2 PCI-e x1 slots !

Thanks. That's real thorough. Any quick tips checking max ram? Other than searching upgrade?

For the optiplex 390 specs list 8GB. but this Google search showed the question asked a Dell Support ( http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19505794 (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19505794) ) In which the person asking after being told he could test with 2x8GB. and to let them know if it works does respond :
Updating this thread to confirm that the Optiplex 390 does indeed support 16GB (2 x 8GB DIMMS) of memory.
The memory in question is G.Skill DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 8192MB x2 (F3-1600C11D-16GNT) set.
Cheers.
So seems at least some 8x2GB modules will work giving you 16GB !!

Coincidence, but hilariously enough, I bought the last i3 of the type I wanted. there were other more expensive i3s but I dont like the shipping guy that much
-
Is it just me or are the i3's scarce on that site? Every time I look the inventory is slim-to-none.
-
I was just replying to the suggestion that I didn't read the manual.
Sorry, was not trying to imply you did not do something obvious. I posted to share that my small form factor PC has what you were looking for. The manual was an after thought.
For Mac's there is a cool program[/b] (http://www.mactracker.ca[b) the gives the the manufacter listed max ram and the acteral max ram, in my experience the two rarely match. I had a mac that maxed out at an odd number of GB. I ended up running up and it worked fine. Tried looking for a similar program for Dells but with there huge number of models and less loyal user base, it looks like no one bothered.
If I was you and I had 4 4GB ram stick laying a round I'd give it a try. You may find that it will use something strange liken 17 GB :dunno

For anyone looking for a 19" 4:3 monitor they have a surplus of Dell Ultrasharp 1905FP's so are running a sale for $27 and free shipping using code "reddit" - Looks like they have at least 30 or more of them available. Good price for a 19" monitor with great viewing angles !
-
Is it just me or are the i3's scarce on that site? Every time I look the inventory is slim-to-none.
There were a ton the other day, but the best values probably disappeared within two days of noticing them.
(no idea how long they were there before I noticed them)
I'm not watching the site regularly, but it seems to me that the stuff comes in waves. It's off-lease stuff, so it's large batches of similar stuff at a time. Might be P4's one time, i3's another. The best bang for the buck disappears within a few days.
-
^This -- Figure they get them off lease from companies so will get all of the systems that a company leased at one time. Figure the I3s -I5s are just now starting to reach the 3-5 year end of leases so will probably start showing up in larger numbers but seem to also disappear a bit faster than the more abundant core2s\P4s.
-
Just tested and it seems the "Reddit" code is also working on systems and other monitors for 30% off and Free Shipping - not just on the 1905FP !! (Not sure when it expires but figured I'd post it !)

I just received this email from ArrowDirect -
3 DAYS ONLY: Take an extra 45% off laptops and desktops featuring the powerful Core i5 processor. Use coupon code CORE45 at checkout to save! Browse Core i5 computers from Dell, Lenovo & HP.
-
Also they just added a few i3's.
-
Just looked. It's all i5 laptops only.

computer showed up today. Was rated a B- on the website. Just some dirt and smudges on the case, and the dvd plate was scratched up, I'd give it an A for looks. got here in 3 days for only $12 shipping.

There is one "small" there.

Depends on how you search. Click on desktops, then check the box for the 3 different variations of i5. More results than just clicking on the i5 option.

Hard to believe part is there is only 1 Core2Duo and 1 P4 series desktop listed ! (when those were about all that were listed a few days ago -- Also they again seem to be adjusting the list price for the sales code -- was looking earlier and all desktops listed "discount prices" were 50% of "regular price" on the listings now they are 15% so that the 45% off code takes them to about the same price they were and the "reddit" code that gave free shipping and 30% off of the 50% price listed was actually quite a bit lower !! :dizzy:
-
Yup. The i3's that were $220 before discounts yesterday are $357 today. :lol

I'm finding that its all about timing. Their prices fluctuate wildly...this morning I looked when the "reddit" code was posted...found a 2nd gen core i5 with 8g ram and a 250 hd for $179 after coupon...I passed since I've already bought enough to last me a few years...but later today with the other coupon the prices have gone up and the price after the 45% coupon is $250
Still not a bad price but we all would rather have the $75 savings...
Moral is if you are in the market just keep checking and buy what you think is a good deal.
I'm still happy with all the PC's I bought from them. (doesn't stop me from looking LOL.)
-
Arrow's pickings are slim right now, but I got a Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz Lenovo for $54 shipped on eBay right now. Gonna use the internals for a dedicated Plex server.

Reddit coupon is still good, just waiting on some more P4's.

Yeah - It's just I was looking at one the other day and the price was shown as $90 normal - sale price $56 - so with the Reddit discount was going to be $40 and change, Luckily I waited till payday to order as when I went back today they had them for regular price $37 - sale price of $22 which with Reddit discount meant I was able to get 2 for less than the one would have been. :applaud:
And the composite and svideo inputs do come in handy at times !

I just ordered one to my parents for a yet to be determined build this summer. At $18.09 shipped its a good deal.
I may grab a R-pi 2B see what cabinet type inspires me.

Glad to hear you got through after they finished maintenance last night !
For others wanting monitors I looked through the listings and they have several good deals right now for example they have several 19" monitors (various brands) @ $18 - $21 before discounts (Reddit code still working for 25% additional discount and FREE SHIPPING makes them $13.50 - $15.75 + Tax (depending on where you live) Shipped.
Also a few 20" models for $22.20 Before other discount ( about $18 shipped after code) and some 22" widescreens for $34.20 before discount ( $25.65 + Tax shipped )
Seems they might have a few too many monitors in stock and are trying to get rid of some - so good time to get those monitors for the next builds or even for your main systems if you need one !!

Actually just found one left (they might add more also - inventory changes as they refurb and test the units - so those that missed just keep checking back or check the other listings if the one you pick doesn't add to your cart and instead shows out of stock - as there are several listings sometimes for the same model and they aren't always linked so one will show OOS while the other adds to your cart ! ) -- Think they are gonna wonder why these are going so fast (when I first found them there were like 10 listed as available ) Just glad to hear that a few forum members are getting theirs since ChanceKJ has called this "2015: Year of the Two Display builds. Pfft - I'd never do a Two Display build. That's just a nice monitor to have on hand. I wanted one with Composite in for testing purposes.

You ever see 24 Hour Party People (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0274309/)? Great film about Factory Records. Highly entertaining. If Control was the Goth Version of Ian Curtis, 24HPP is the New Wave version.

Geez - I guess I've got to remember to ensure my purchases ship before letting you guys know about them !! -- yesterday afternoon I received an e-MAIL from arrowdirect :
From: Kevin Divis
To: John Fanning
Sent: Wednesday, February 4, 2015 2:13 PM
Subject: Arrowdirect.com order # 3400017138
Mr. Fanning,
Thank you for placing an order with Arrowdirect.com. Unfortunately, we do not have this item in our inventory at
this time. I will be submitting a request for a full refund to your account today.
We are sorry for your less than ideal experience and that there was not a better resolution.
Thank you and Have a Great Day!
Needless to say I was not real happy !! (esp. since I know why they were out of stock  )
So I sent them a reply and after several e-mails back and forth am satisfied with the outcome so figured I would post the rest of the E-mail conversation here for you all to see (They actually have a fairly helpful support team and are willing to assist even when the order is only $38 for 2 20 inch monitors.) It is a pretty long read so for those that do not want to take the time to read it a quick summary :
Seems they are having some problems with their website not updating after orders are placed and at time sell the same item twice - meaning they have to try and find substitutes if available or cancel orders. After talking with their support rep they made it right and I am receiving a HP L2065 (an S-ips 20" 4:3 monitor with good reviews and just missing the component and S-video connections) and a 2001FP (pretty much the same as the 2007FP but uses an external AC adapter (which I already have so not an issue)
For those that are bored and want the long version Here is the rest of the back and forth :

Kevin,
I sent you a reply yesterday after receiving this message but did not receive any further response so not sure if you
received it or not so am resending another reply.
Regarding the cancelling of my order - I am wondering why it was cancelled when your site still this morning lists
the 2007fp AS IN STOCK. Perhaps you only have one available and not 2 in which case I would think you would
send the one and only cancel the second or offer to substitute a comparible model (ie you also have one 2001FP
which is almost the same (though does not include an internal PSU so would require me to purchase an AC adapter,
or you have the 2007WFP which is the widescreen version of this same monitor.) or another 20" monitor (problem
being only a select few have the Composite video and S-video inputs which is what I mainly ordered this model for.
The problem with you cancelling this order is that the sale that I ordered under is no longer valid and thus
reordering is not an option as the cost for this same order if reordered would now be $106+ rather than the $38 I
paid -- So to say the least I am not happy with this situation and would expect that a better solution to this
situation could be found. I realize that problems arise at times and am willing to work with you but having an order
that has already been paid for ( and even if you do cancel and refund the payment it will be 4 to 6 weeks before
those funds are available to use due to the payment being process from my AMEX card through PAYpal which
means waiting for Paypal to process your refund and then notify AMEX and waiting for them to process it from
there.
So you are asking me to accept having my funds be in limbo for 6 weeks meaning I can not simply repurchase - and
then pay $70 additional in order to reorder replacement monitors for the ones I ordered and paid for while you
continue to sell this exact model to other customers ( As is evidenced by the screenshot I included with my first
reply and the fact your site currently (as of 8AM this morning) still shows the 2007FPB that I ordered INSTOCK).
Why can you not at least partially fulfill this order since you evidently still have stock and then either arrange for the
refund of the second monitors purchase or arrange for a similar product to be sent.

John,
There was not a message from you in my inbox.
This issue was sent to me from a member of our sales team. When a situation happens like this they try to find
another exact replacement. In this instance there was not one there. The items that you ordered had a cosmetic
grade of b grade. This one you are referring to on the website is of a c grade and the sales member will never
down grade in any situation. This was passed on to me for a full refund. A case has been created and is in the
process of being processed.

This is incorrect as shown in the PIC I forwarded along with the message and have again attached with this response
(take a look at the attached pic) the pic shows your notification of the cancellation and a screen of your site with the
same exact grade B monitor as IN Stock at the time I typed the reply and that same item is currently still showing
on your site as in stock. And it is the same B grade unit not a lower or higher grade. SO why can it not be sent at
this point ??

We’ve had an issue with our website updating and I can assure you in this instance that we do not have this item.
I’ve done a search on my inventory list and we are currently out besides the one and only C-grade. My lead
suggested that you find anotheritem and we can have those sent to you.

That would work -- I notice the one 2007FP is now showing OOS so I guess it was updated when you checked and
could not find it. I have added 2 suitable replacements in my cart (The discount code that was not working yesterday
and this morning now seems to be working again so the total price come out the same as the previous invoice.
It has one HP LP2065 20" monitor (
Ecommsku Value: 4E720F7945C929029C55836950C0CC75 )
and one widescreen version of the 2007 which is a different resolution and widescreen rather than 4:3 but as
mentioned since I need the composite input for the 1 screen this will work
Ecommsku Value: 472F9ECC6446502EF60B52C30E07E485
I included a screenshot of the cart (and have left the items in my cart ) in case you can not access it on your end - If
you can send these instead then that will work for me much better than having the order cancelled. Thank you for
the assistance in getting this worked out.

As mentioned I kind of need the Composite video in on at least one of the monitors which limits the options but you
do show 2 of the older 2001FP (
Ecommsku Value: 1AD146C7400F75217555BDF1B10E1B1A ) in stock but they are for some reason more
expensive than the 2007FP which was actually a replacement for it ( the 2001FP uses an external Power source so
I will have to source one for it ) but it is the preferred 4:3 aspect ratio and has the composite input so would work if
it could be substituted. Not sure why the price difference between it and the original 2007FP ordered as it is pretty
much the same monitor except for requiring the external AC adapter which the newer 2007 has internally instead.
Unfortunately that seems to be the only other 20" that you have with composite inputs so if it can not be
substituted due to the additional cost, I guess the refund of the 2nd half is the only other option at this point and I
will continue to check back to see if new stock arrives and reorder later.

That's great -- Thank you very much for the assistance with this - I know it was a lot of time to invest in such a
small order but the help is much appreciated. Look forward to receiving them and will be ordering more in the
future as needed.
Hopefully they will get your website fixed soon so that it properly updates as units are sold so that you will not
continue to run into this problem. (FYI - you might want to ensure the 2007wfp is changed to OOS as it is still
showing 1 available ) - Have a nice day and again thank you for your help.

Interesting - I got a shipping notice for my purchase. I bought it after you posted it. According to the FedEx #, it's in Sacramento right now. So I don't know why I got one and you didn't.

From what the rep told me they have some problems with the website not properly updating and so wound up selling those 2 units twice (in most cases they have more stock so sub another of the same model when it happens most of the time) - This time though when they got to processing my order none were left (probably because your order got processed before mine even though mine was entered first or yours was in a different coded stack but was marked as sold prior to them looking for mine) - guess they started from the end of the list instead of the beginning and since it was a popular item at that price they had no replacements left so cancelled my order and began to issue a refund. But in the end I still got 2 good 20" IPS monitors for the $38 so can't complain.
Just glad to hear some members did get theirs and not that they wound up cancelling all of them since the price was too good

Anyone have any discount codes that work?

I'm looking to buy stuff that totals to a little over $100.
Thanks in advance!

Hmm -- just checked and none seem to be working - strange thing is the reddit code was not working yesterday but then worked again today while looking for replacements for my order and is now not working again. Can't seem to get any code to work right now -- I'd try again later and see if it starts working again. Might be they are working on the site and have it turned off right now (since the rep mentioned it not updating properly which is what caused my issue)

No problem as I already have one 2001FP I bought awhile back so will still have a matching pair if needed  and the HP LP2065 is an 8ms GTG S-IPS panel so will work just fine. (though it is missing the composite and s-video in it does have dual DVI instead which means it could be used if I do build a dual screen cocktail and want to use the 2nd player as either head to head with the first screen or as a second system by hooking up both DVI connections and just switching the input setting.
Just glad to hear most if not all the 2007s went to members here (as I look forward to seeing how they get used !)

Their site is back up. I e-mailed tech support and this is how they responded:
"Feb 6, 08:52
Hello,
Our website is experiencing technical difficulties and this time but the issue should be resolved by today.
Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your patience!
Best Regards,
Arrow Customer Support "
Edit: I just tried today at 2pm EST and the codes were still down. I called customer support and they said they are not sure when it will be back up again, but they are working on it. They would not allow me to order over the phone.
If I didn't know any better I'd say that they did this on purpose so that people can't grab stuff for super cheap. The order process is working... Just all codes are dead.

Yeah the 20" 4:3's are really nice it's surprising how much larger they are than the 17 or even 19" ones and for MAME games gives you a much larger image than even the 23-24 inch widescreens. And the stands are really nice on them also with the rotation and they are very sturdy due to the weights to offset the height and swivel adjustments. Then the IPS panels are amazing with the viewing angles the pic looks the same from pretty much any angle unlike the TN panels. I started testing the Dell 2001FP screen I bought awhile back to make sure it was working in place of my 22" widescreen and haven't switched it back yet because I like the 4:3 res and viewing angles
Does the 2007 have the PIP ability like the 2001 does ?

They seem a bit more expensive but good option if arrow doesn't bring back any coupon codes !
Also Does show how good of a deal those 2007FPs were @ $18 shipped though (See image attached ) Figure the total price was less than the PC liquidations shipping cost !:

Wow! I'm so glad I jumped on one.
I looked at some other stuff head to head with arrow and the prices before discounts were comparable for the two item I looked at before discounts, and they do have a lot of P4's in stock. I would imagine they have coupon codes out in the wiled.
FYI: I found them looking for what Yotsuya called the best 3:4 LCD display you can get, the Samsung 213T Syncmaster 21.3". I'm going to pass on it because of its C quality rating.

Know the feeling -- Looks like they do have a couple more of the HP LP2065 which are similar to the 2007 (though one of them shows a higher price point not sure why !) other than not having Composite, S-video and VGA input ( They have Dual DVI inputs) - they are also IPS panels so great viewing angle, the same 1600x1200 resolution and actually a bit faster response time (8ms GTG vs 16ms) than the 2007s So are a fairly good substitute (rather than a refund - I got one of them and 1 2001FP (problem with the 2001FP is it needs an external power adapter that runs about $10 on Ebay - so would be an additional cost if you don't already have an extra one like I did) -- Since the Sale is over you might try and get them to sub 2 of the HP LP2065s at the same cost rather than get a refund if you don't mind not having the composite input !

Damn, I feel like the world's luckiest mofo for getting the deal I did on the FP2007.
Yeah - especially since you were the last to order !!! -- I'm actually satisfied though with the swap I made since I already had an extra AC adapter sitting here for the 2001FP and had another 2001 already - And the HP monitor I'm really liking so far (received it yesterday) as the response time is a bit faster and the stand is actually kind of nice also (when raised the bottom of the monitor sits 9.25" above the desk and 4" when lowered (which is convenient when my Cat decides to sleep in front of the monitor while I'm on the computer :laugh2: ) and the cables route through the a rubber piece along either side of the stand so are well hidden. Also kind of like the 1/2" silver bezel all around the monitor rather than it being larger on the bottom.
That does bring up one thing though -- I wonder if LOCKE has had his parents open the box and make sure his is what it was suppose to be while there is time to do something about it if it isn't !!

Well, just got my 2 2007FPb monitors except one of them is 2007WFPb. I've sent out the request for a solution leaving it to them to make the suggestion but I did mention that the important factors of that purchase for me were the aspect ratio and price. I guess I left out the s-video/composite, but maybe I'll find that doesn't matter anyway once I see the Xbox hooked up that way since everyone seems to think that component to vga is the way to go.

Wow -- Looks like they really need to retrain some of the employees there or assign someone to check the make and model of the monitors as the refurb them. I have a feeling that problem with the website not updating is causing more confusion as they pull monitors to fill the missing ones. So they probably have no real idea what they have at present. Might be why they stopped all of the codes for now so they can recount the inventory and find out what they have. ( I noticed the 2007s are now showing things like -5 , 0, -2 in stock (not sure how you go about getting negative stock !!)
Could always make lemonade and make a virtual Pinball machine with the 2007FP for the back and the 2007 WFP for the playfield !! :laugh2: :dunno

This has me concerned that the monitor sitting at my parents house may not be a Dell 2007. I sent an email to my mom asking her to check with instructions on how to do this. Can some one with a 2007 post a pick front, back, and of any identifying sticker that I could send to my mom?

Its a super easy to read part-number sticker right on the back of the monitor.
I too received a 2009 instead of a 2007.
They then told me to drop it off at my closest UPS location and they'd pay for return shipping. Dude then had to go speak to his manager after I told him that the nearest UPS location from here is several hours drive. I'd end up spending more on gas getting there and back (never mind the time off of work) than I paid for the monitor in the first place.

Easiest way I've found to check on the majority of the Dell Monitors Is printed right behind the Stand (see Pic below) --- The stand removal is easy just press the one button and lift the bottom of the stand up and then slightly down to remove (it has a few metal protrusions that slide into the stand to hold in place ) and the model # is then stamped on the monitor under where the stand mounts. I don't have a 2007 but the pic shows the 2001FP and it is the same on my 1708FP and 1905FP as well !

2011.
I'm not sure what to do now. I don't want to ask tomuch from my mom but I would much rather have a 3:4 with the composit input. That was the whole reason I got the thing.
Naby I'll just post it for trad this summer so I can take care of it with out bothering my parents. :dunno

Don't think there is a 2011 -- Did she Mean 2001 ??? -- If so it will be 4:3 just like the 2007 only difference is the 2001 uses a laptop type AC adapter which is not included ( can get new for $11 on Ebay or used for $6 - $10 when available But I normally just buy the new ones cause you never know what the used has been through !) -- Here's the $11 I got last time (http://www.ebay.com/itm/111297068161?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (http://www.ebay.com/itm/111297068161?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) ) and it's been working fine for 3 months now.
Here's a pic of the 2001FP power connector ( Note : the second plug that looks like a power connector is actually for Speaker Power if using the Speaker Bar !)

I just jumped on a Samsung 213T Syncmaster 21 (I think it's actually a 21.3 as it looks identical to the 21.3 on other sites like new egg) for $55.13 shipped from Arrow.
I think this has to be my last perches for a while as I now have a bunch of stuff setting at my parents and will have only 30 days total in the US this summer.
P.S.The Code winter20 worked & reddit did not.

They have officially been cleaned out of all 20' 4:3 monitors

That was me. I ordered the last black Samsung 214T last night along with a 19" Eizo monitor for about $66 shipped. WINTER20 worked. REDDIT did not. I had been trying for a week (unsuccessfully) to order both the 213 and 214 monitors.
I'm glad I snagged at least one.
-
Don't lose hope.
Surely there is another business that will liquidate their off lease monitors.

I'm sure Arrow will get a batch in soon.

Nice to see they brought back the free shipping as it does make a difference in the overall cost when buying $20 - $30 monitors saving $12 per unit. But inventory does seem a bit scarce right now hopefully more will be added before the free shipping ends ( though I already have more monitors than I need ! - 1 - 17", 2 19", 3 20") Still hoping they'll bring back some of the cheaper Core2duo systems but seems they may have moved to only stocking the CoreI's as the P4's and Core2duos seem to have all gone missing for some time now.
-
Yea, I have no idea what I'm going to do with the two I got, a 20'' and 21''. I also have a 19'' laying around some where. The good news is I won't get my hands on them till July so plenty of time to plan.

Glad to see you finally got that order in ! (and that it wound up around $66 instead of the $100 so guess the wait was worth it - though Locke141 got in and ordered your 213T off of you during the wait ! )
-
So, my one wrong monitor is going to be a 20" widescreen build I guess. I was torn anyway because the XBOX is capable of widescreen so if it's a multi-use it'll be better for movies or something. But they did offer a 15% refund since it was the wrong product, so I can buy a soda or something.

:burgerking: Sorry about that, it's bound to happen as so many of us now check in on them so often.
They have officially been cleaned out of all 20' 4:3 monitors
They have lots of 3:4 20'' monitors, just not the newer Dell's. But most are still cheep.

Those are still showing up but NOTICE the #available 0 -- which means they are out of stock (looks like they finally got the website to change to 0 Qty but not stop showing the item yet ! ) --- If you do the searchrch for 20" and then sort by QTY they currently have 0 Qty of all 20" monitors (guess we ordered too many during the last sale :laugh2: ) Hopefully they'll get more before the free shipping ends !

There are new dell 20" 4:3 monitors- a bunch of people at the college where i work have them. They are not on lease but surely other companies lease them. So there's hope 3-5 years from now. I'll get a model number.

There is one Dell 2000FP that has composite ( http://arrowdirect.com/dell-ultrasharp-2000fp-20.html (http://arrowdirect.com/dell-ultrasharp-2000fp-20.html) ) but it has a pretty big bezel and not sure if the stand is adjustable - so would work if removing from the casing) using "winter20" for 15% discount and Free Shipping makes it about $30.

Seems they have multiple locations and ship from whichever has the product you ordered ( My 2 monitors came from 2 different locations and they charge Sales Tax for Texas so have locations here as well.

Mine just got delivered. Now I need to run home before the snow gets it.

Well, it turned out only part 1 of 2 arrived today. The Samsung Syncmaster 214T. But... It's defective. :timebomb:
At first I thought it was dead, but then I realized that the brightness was WAY low. Adjusting it did nothing. I've already e-mailed customer service. I hope my other 19" monitor doesn't have any issues. :dizzy:

Ouch -- you'd think they would have noticed that (unless maybe the backlight broke in shipping :dunno ) at least they have the 60 day return so should get it corrected - They have a 204T in stock that looks to be about the same just a bit slower response rate.

When I was looking for a SYNCMASTER 213T I keep finding replacement parts on ebay.
Edit: I found a guy that had the same problem. It just needed 6 capacitors and the reaper looked easy and was very cheep (2ERO). http://www.nuonsoft.com/blog/2012/03/14/repairing-a-samsung-syncmaster-214t/ (http://www.nuonsoft.com/blog/2012/03/14/repairing-a-samsung-syncmaster-214t/)
Here is a ebay listing for a cap kit for $7.58.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-CAPACITORS-REPAIR-KIT-SAMSUNG-214T-/150986324722?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23277c7af2 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-CAPACITORS-REPAIR-KIT-SAMSUNG-214T-/150986324722?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23277c7af2)
I don't know how good of a deal you got on it or how much you really wanted this particular monitor. But if it was me and my 213T shows up like this, I'd give a repair a go.
-
A whole replacement boards come up on ebay as well $7.48 and for one cent less then the cap kit before shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Repair-Kit-Samsung-214T-LCD-Monitor-Capacitors-/230554161051?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35ae194f9b (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Repair-Kit-Samsung-214T-LCD-Monitor-Capacitors-/230554161051?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35ae194f9b)
If I went this rout I would get the cap kit as well and repair the old one as a back up.

I compliment people all the time. When they deserve it, of course.
Nevermind. Locke's idea sucks. Get your money back.
-
But I'd still get a kit and fix the monitor.
-
I should have just taken the complement. It just came across a little back handed to me. Like Yotsuya was saying Locke's ideas usaly suck but this ones alright. It's not always easy to discern tune but that's how I read it.
What ever. Yotsuya has been very helpful to me in the past and I appreciate his honest feed back. Even if he sometimes comes across as harsh. I know his harts in the right place.

Don't sweet it. I'm wishing I just assumed the best and moved on.
-
Thanks guys. It's worth a shot for under $10. I've capped CRT arcade monitor chassis before so this should be a breeze. However, I'm going to wait to hear back from them first. I don't want to open it up and then it voids my 60 day return warranty.
If ArrowDirect wants me to ship it back at my expense - Then I'll try it, because it's a beast of a box to ship back and may not be worth it.
Edit: If they offer a partial re-imbursement option, I'll take it and use the money towards the repair. We'll see what happens.
DeLuSioNaL29
-
So I heard back and they are offering 3 options: 1) Mail it back and exchange it for the same or equivalent product. 2) Mail it back and get a full refund. 3) Keep the defective product and take an additional 15% off.
I decided to carefully open it up and check the capacitors before deciding. And, as predicted it needs new caps. (Pic below). Three of them are bulging and leaking.
So, I've decided to roll the dice and picked option # 3. I've ordered the cap kit (which is local to me coincidentally so it should arrive quickly). Fingers crossed!

Wise choice, my friend!

Props to Locke141 for hooking up the parts links.

As of now there is one left if any one is looking for a large 3:4 LCD.
http://arrowdirect.com/syncmaster-213t.html (http://arrowdirect.com/syncmaster-213t.html)
After reading about the 213T vs the 214T, I'm wishing I jumped on that, even with the extra work involved in fixing a broken unit.. It has more input options, twice the contrast ratio, and has a thread the response time.
I'm still very happy to be getting mine and am working on some plans for it now.

New code out : "fast33"
Good for 33% off and they still have free shipping right now (though looks like prices increased a bit to make up for the difference between the old 25% off code and this new one - so net cost is about the same as it was, unless you do not use the new code and instead use a 25% off code and pay the extra 8% for the same item !! )
Also looks like they finally got the website working properly (all of the 0 Qty items no longer listed) so hopefully if you order they will not be out of the item or send the wrong item !! :dunno
-
Great news. I fixed the 214T! The cap kit worked like a charm! I posted the "after" pics of the caps below.
I also posted a pic of the 214T next to my 17" LCD for size comparison. This thing is HUGE!
Now I need to call them to get my additional 15% back for all my trouble. :-)
Thanks again to the great suggestion on trying to fix it guys!

Yes but if it was indeed professionally refurbished it is hard to believe they would not have noticed the bulging/leaking caps or the fact the monitor could not even display properly. Must have been inspected late on a Friday or early Monday !

Do you think they are doing component level testing on every lcd that comes through each of their regional warehouses?
No.
At best they turn them on.
My greatest hope is they test the composite output on each of their LCDs, otherwise I wasted +$28.
-
Doubtful this monitor was tested at all. The image was so dark I originally thought that it was turned off. Then I pressed the menu button and it was dark too. A bad sign for sure.
But I'm glad it was a simple fix. It was super easy to do.
Plus it gave me confidence to open up my broken 17" LCD. I ended up reflowing the VGA connector pins and it's fixed too. :-)
Would I buy from them again? Absolutely.

It's huge! It's so big it's hard to tell that its a 3:4 from the pic.
Your in CT right? Was the monitor sitting out side in near zero wether, then brought in you house and shortly there after turned on? If so it may have happened then, electronics don't like sudden large temperature changes.

213T has arrived. :burgerking:
My mom included a pic of the sticker to confirm the model.
I asked her to plug it in tomorrow to confirm that it works.
-
Glad to hear that you got it! Does it work?
As for mine, it was sitting in the cold when they delivered it, but I did let it sit for a few hours to warm up inside before I tried it. However, when I opened it up to repair it, it was clear that the caps were leaking and bulging for a while there. From what I read this is a common issue for this model.
Speaking of models, what's the difference between the 213T and the 214T?

My mom is going to have my sister check it for me today, hopefully. I'll let you know.
Your 214T is better, besides for the bad caps. It has more input options, near twice the contrast ratio, better viewing angles, and has about 3x quicker response time.

As for the customer support at ArrowDirect.com I have to admit, it's pretty darn good! They responded right away to my initial problem and came up with good solution choices. I ended up getting $20 credited for the whole ordeal.
In addition, after I let them know that they should have (at the very least) turned on the Monitor to check it before it got sent, they wrote "Thank you for your feedback I have sent this information to the appropriate channels." So hopefully that should address the quality issues moving forward.

After my customer support experience I would say I'm pleased too and would do business with them again.
But that quote isn't actually very confidence building to me. If I were saying "Don't tell me how to run my business, now go away" it would look just like what they said to you.
-
So hopefully that should address the quality issues moving forward.

Man, you are living up to that handle tonight. Whatever you've got in your hand, set it down.

I was hunting for discount codes a while back and saw a video of one of there facilities. It looked like the were opening PC towers and giving a visual inspections. My guess is they probably do a visual inspections including the internals when it is trivial to do, opening a monitor would probably take to much time. I would also imagine that because PCs have moving parts and monitors don't they are more likely to power on the PC.
They also have to do a secure wipe of the HD and install an OEM copy of the OS before it goes out the door. They advertise this as part of the service they provide to companies looking to recycle there equipment.
-
I'm happy with my FP2007 as a monitor, but as a test rig, I really need sound. I ended up pickup up one of these Dell sound bars for like $15 shipped on ebay. It sounds great, and best of all, it's powered by the monitor, so no extra power wart. Whoo!
-
How would it do in a bartop?
-
The sound on it is great. The trick is to find a way to power it. The monitor comes with a power port - you'd need some sort of power supply for it otherwise. But the sound is nice.
-
They sold them with a 12v power supply as well, with a reverse plug/socket. You could wire it up to any 12v source. We have a bunch of these at work.
-
I think both the dell monitors I picked up have the power port so I may think about picking a pair of these up.
-
Yeah, mine was NIB and cheap. Pretty awesome. Go for it, bfauska!

LOL - Good ole ArrowDirect -- they went from offering a supposed normal price $62 monitor discount price of $38.44 for most of their monitors this morning with a 10% off code (so net price $34.60) to the same monitor $62 to a discount price of $40.30 minus a bonus 13% ( so net price of $35.06 ) -- SO they increase the discount code by 3% and it winds up costing an extra $0.46 !! ( Not that I'm complaining as their prices still beat most other options out there !!)

I can't knock them too much, still dirt cheap!

Definitely  - it's just funny how they adjust the discount price on the main page to adjust for any discount codes they promote, so you wind up with almost the same price whether using a 10% off code they always have or a special 30% temporary promotional code they post. (as long as you track the current codes) So the final price pretty much remains the same - One thing that does really help though is the Free shipping they have been running as that cuts an additional $13 off the total cost per item.

Anyone tracking the codes? I need monitors tonight.

They pretty much only have the one right now ( bonus13 ) which gives 13% off the listed discount price ( Arrow and 10offany also work but only 10% discount so better off using bonus13 !) but they do also have Free shipping running which saves an additional $13 per monitor over normal pricing so are decent prices.
Also one thing to keep an eye on -- once you decide on a specific model run a search for that model as they sometimes have 2 or 3 prices for the same monitor and grade not just different prices for different grades. so do a search and make sure they don't have the same exact grade and model for a lower price listed also !! (think they sometimes price them in lots depending on what company lease they got them back from so sometimes have more than one lot of specific models with different pricing depending on what they paid for the refurb. contract)

3.00 ghz core 2 duo is the minimum specs to run Mortal Kombat/Injustice
What Mortal Kombat are you talking about? Because I'm pretty sure I had Mortal Kombat 1 working just fine on my cabinet back in 2002.

Hadn't noticed that before, that's some pretty crafty marketing.
I've ordered about 10 monitors from Arrow now and had mostly good results. The FP2001 they sent me wasn't a B grade, had a bad crack on the bezel and was missing the power supply. Another batch of 3 I ordered, one was the wrong model number, didn't match the others. In both cases they were quick to make good though with offers of replacements or additional discounts. They also ship to me pretty quick but I think there's a distribution center here in Minneapolis.

Took me a while to notice it also - I've also ordered several ( 1 - 17", 2 -19", and 4 or 5 20" ) and a Small form factor core2duo system during xmas that was $50 shipped with a 3 GHz. CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 250GB HDD with a win7 Pro license (unfortunately looks like they stopped carrying the older systems and have gone to I3's and up)
And also have had a couple problems ( ordered 2 2007FPs and they had double sold them due to some website glitch ) (after I mentioned the great price here on the forum and several members placed orders that same weekend !! :laugh2:) so they cancelled the order but I E-mailed thm after receiving the cancellation notice and was able to arrange 2 substitute monitors ( 1 2001FP and the HP lp2065) for the same price even though the 50% off code and free shipping had expired (which is why I called them about the cancellation since reordering was gonna cost almost double the original price I had gotten) - They took the time to make sure I could find a comparable substitute and gave me the same discount as I had on the original order. Then on another order for a 2001FP they sent a DELL 1905FP instead So I called to let them know and they offered to reship and pay for me to send the one I received back but since I had only paid about $20 shipped for it I just kept the 19" and had them rebill me for the 2001FP and ship it as well ( needed the Composite video connection for a project)
So yes they do make mistakes at times but are always willing to fix things when they do !! ANd the 2001FP's don't come with the power brick most of the time ( I've ordered 3 and never got one but found a EBAY seller that sells the right ones for $12 brand new )

Well in case anyone is wondering, the hp I order from them over a year ago is still chugging along.
I had originally gotten it for a racing cab project, but since their prices are always so low I might just upgrade the old mame cab with it and buy another one for the racer.

IF going for a system their pricing isn't so good right now - you can do better with TKW4rr10r's systems he is selling in the BST sub forum which are also off lease systems I believe. Good to know. I complained about the missing brick and they knocked an extra 15% off. Didn't quite cover the $12 cost but was still a fair deal given the low prices.

Looks like the 'markup sale' is common on Steam too, check out the article below. Good to keep an eye out for, the discounts aren't always what they seem.

I wouldn't be caught dead with any of Arrow's discarded junk in my cabs, only making suggestions to keep the commoners happy so they don't revolt. 2G's is nothing nowadays, G-Sync fo life! :afro:
