Title: What Midway 4-player game had beautiful artwork that is still available?
Post by: synonym9 on June 02, 2014, 10:15:50 am

Guys,

I get a Midway 4-Player gab that was converted to an Police Trainer in an odd way (see the images).

I did not pay for it, I have got it (next to a Crisis Zone for a Solidworks-project.

First I did not want to accept it as a payment as it looked like an universal cabinet to me, not the Movie-Company but that kind of cabinet built from a carpenter to put a conversion-kit in it (dont know if you guys have that in the USA).

The wide CP was kind of irritating for me, after looking at the second image I discovered that was a Wrestlemania in its first life.

Since it got no PCB in it I am going to convert it to a GroovyMame/Arcade CRT-Machine.

Arcade collecting is all about beautiful cabinets for me, so I restore all of my cabs carfully.

I think that the artwork of the Wrestlemania is not very beautiful and even if it would, I dont find the screen-bezel nor the CPO.

I researched the web for 4-player cabinets and was very faszinated by some like the Simpsons or Captain America and the Avengers but found out that all the nice ones seems to be Konami-Cabinets.

The matching Midway games seems to be

Open Ice 2 on 2
NFL Blitz (wouldŽnt that require 49-way sticks?)
NBA showtime
NBA Jam (or is that the same?)

They are ok, but I am not so much after cabinets with foto-artwork, I rather love cartoon-artwork.

Guys, what games else did come it that cabinets that had fine artwork which is still available in the web (I want to stay with the 4-player CP)?

Where are you located?  I have an MK4 cab I'd swap with you. exact same cab only I'd LOVE to have the undertaker as my side art. That doesnt look like a wrestlemania control panel, it looks like an NBA Jam panel in size (slighty wider than the 2 player panels) but the side art says midway so it might be Jam TE.  You can swap the 2 and 4 player panels between midway cabs, same bolt pattern.

to answer your question above,
Blitz didnt require 49 ways, and a lot of people cant really tell the difference when playing with an 8 way.

Sir, that is not going to work since I live in Vienna/Austria/Europe.
BUT, since I think this community is supposed to help one another and since I also received help from others I could do that:

I buy one of that see-through-scanners, scan that sideart and clean it in Photoshop (I am a graphic-designer).

I also saw a CPO for a 2-player Wrestlemania on KLOV but since that stupid side does not allow you to participate without a donation I could not downlaod it...I think he also had the marquee....

I need more proposals to my question about what cabinet-dress I should spend that cabinet....

I have a KLOV account, but I don't use it enough to vouch for you. if you post the link to the thread, I'll download the file and post it here for ya.

I am not after the Wrestlemania-artwork, it would have been interesting for you, but I dont know if I ever find it again.

I am after something more beautiful that came originally in that cabinet.

All the Midway 4-player games had different cabinets than yours. I think NBA/NBC Showtime and NFL Blitz might be the only two that have artwork that would fit the Wrestlemania cab, but that's about it. NBA Jam, Rampage World Tour, 2-on-2 Open Ice, etc are different cabs, dimension wise than your current cabinet.

That CPO on KLOV was mine. My original CPO for my dedicated WWF was really messed up. My local photo lab was able to get it all fixed up for me and provided me with the original, high-res file. I have it if anyone want's it.

I think about to keep it originally but would need also all the other stickers like the Screen-bezel for instance.
I would lo to get the CPO file but would need to rework it to a 4 player....but how does the 4-player looks like???

I think you should do a rampage machine.

Well, if the OP's WWF cabinet is going to be used, then it would have to be a "Rampage: World Tour."

Only problem with that is the artwork for that game is not the same dimensions as the WWF Cab. The Rampage artwork is more similar to the NBA Jam cabs with the longer speaker grille area and more rounded screen curve. If that's what you decide, here is the only known source of the Rampage artwork...

Thanks MK3Fan, you seems to have fundamental knowledge about that certain cabinet.

I would also leave it as a WWF if you would get all the decals....and what would a 4-Player-CPO look like.

What other games did come in exactly that cabinet?

I thought he would want to scale the art up to fit.

That exact cabinet was

-) MK2
-) MK3
-) UMK3
-) MK4
-) Killer Instinct
-) Killer Instinct 2
-) War Gods
-) War: Final Assault
-) Mace: The Dark Age
-) Radikal Bikers
-) NFL Blitz
-) NBA/NBC Showtime
-) Skins

I think that's all of them. I have them all except the bottom three. MK1 was a slightly different cabient. Not sure how a 4-player WWF CPO would turn out.

I forgot about mace. That would be a great choice.

Out of all those cabs, the only 4-player ones were NFL Blitz (also 2-player) and NBA/NBC Showtime.
