Post by: lamprey on May 29, 2014, 11:41:51 am
Not sure if anyone is interested in this, but I just cam across a live action Street Fighter series. Apparently, Season 1 is done and they are into season two.
Alpha - Street Fighter Assassin's Fist Episode 0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyVO0NLoLWE#ws)

Oh, so it's cannon-breaking J.J. Abrahams/Michael Bay garbage then?  Good to know.... I'll avoid them.

No.....it seems the people who put these together actually cared about the material.  Watch the first episode......it's like 10 minutes............then make the call.

Its well done in production value (my comparison to the MK vids) and it stays pretty canon for the most part. The MK stuff wasnt intended to be canon, it was touted as a "modern retelling" so it shouldn't have been expected. I'm not saying its perfect, but its by far the best live action based street fighter thing we've ever seen.

Watching a turd on a sidewalk is better than that.

Because fighting game canon is serious business!

All cannon is serious business.  If you don't want to use the cannon and want to throw out the visual style of the property then you are basically selling the name alone, which is just whoring it out.  You only get a pass when you somehow make it better and unfortunately that hasn't happened in a long time.

I don't think I've ever paid attention to the plot line of a single fighting game. I always found them to be nothing more than flimsy excuses for having two people beat each other up in some orderly fashion.

I personally know some MK fans that would have my head on a platter for saying that, of course.

Eh, this sounds like another arbitrary guideline designed to limit enjoyment of things.  Life is too short for stuff like that...

I agree to a point.  I mean there isnt really a point of calling it street fighter if you dont use the characters as they have already been established, for example see both live action street fighter movies. If you want to play it a little looser but still keep canon in mind, the first Mortal Kombat movie is a good example.

If you completely ignore whats established you end up having vampires that dont drink blood, go out in the day light, and sparkle.

Well I thought mortal kombat legacy was amazing and if they did a full movie I would pay good money to download it for free off the internet.

Breaking Canon is fine, as long as it's understood or explained.

Superman is a good example. He needs to be nerfed and to shed some of the boy scout image.
Star Trek gets a pass since they did a reboot and put the franchise on a different storyline.
They could do-over episode I, II and III of star wars
Spiderman should have organic web shooters
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles should be aliens.... ok, not really

To lift a name, but nothing else doesn't really work. Battleship, World War Z, etc. And I'd say it costs them dearly.

That looked much better than I would have expected.  I can be a canon-geek as much as the next guy but have to admit I've never, ever heard of Canon for Street Fighter.

Imagine if this was the voice over trailer:

In a world where Ken, a man whos father was murdered by Ryu at Dhalism, a popular Indian restaurant, seeks revenge.

---smurfing--- hell. If you're going to be a ---meecrob--- about details, at least spell canon properly. Canon and cannon are two different things Howie.
