Title: Monitor on rear panel

Apologies for the plethora of posts lately, but I'm at a point in my build where it's getting a bit more fiddly and I have to get things just right before I commit! And I keep coming up with questions...

So I've built quite a slim cabinet and the LED monitor I have to put in there isn't the slimmest. I've noticed that most people set up a VESA mount on a plank of wood attached to both sides of the cabinet - is there anything inherently wrong with attaching it to the rear panel instead?

Only the angle. BTW you don't need a VESA mount. You can directly mount the monitor to the wood using machine screws:

Ah ok, so nothing wrong structurally.

Yeah well I think at this point it would be easier to get a thin  tilting VESA mount and attach it to the back - there's just not enough space with this monitor in this cab to fit a sheet of wood across there as well. I'm going to put the panel it will attach to on hinges so that I can access it easily enough (my rear panel is in 4 pieces). I need to so some more measurements though really.

I typically buy the mounts because at the end of the day it's worth it to have the ability to adjust the monitor just a bit.  If your angles or measurements are off without the ability to adjust it, it might not feel good when playing.
