Title: multi-game boards and number of buttons
Post by: Sarver Systems on April 02, 2014, 08:27:01 pm
Is there a list somewhere that says how many buttons each board requires?

I'm building a cocktail cabinet, and I'd like to go with a 412-in-1 since the price is just a bit more than the 60-in-1. I just need to know how many buttons to put in the cabinet.

From a list on AceAmusements.us ( http://www.aceamusements.us/412-in-1-multicade-games-list.html (http://www.aceamusements.us/412-in-1-multicade-games-list.html) ) which also lists the cocktail compatible games (those that switch from side to side on the display for 2 players) :

Roughly two-thirds (276) of the games are cocktail table compatible (CTC).  Meaning that the screen will flip between two players, one at each end of a cocktail table arcade machine.  The games which are cocktail table compatibe are identified by CTC.

In addition to trackball games, like Centipede, there are also spinner controlled games, like Tron.  For the spinner games, control is accomplished using the trackball, and/or buttons, and/or joystick.

When additional controllers are requested, the size of the control panel will become a consideration.  The typical upright classic size vertical monitor control panel (for example, Ms. Pac-Man), is large enough to support only a few controllers - 4-way joystick, 3 control buttons, trackball, 2 start buttons.

However, to play most of the games, and play them well, you would need an additional joystick - an 8-way thumb button top joystick and 4, instead of 3, control buttons.  These additional controls could be accomodated by moving the start buttons to the front side of the control panel.

The additional price for a control panel outfitted as described above is $75 - 8-way with thumb button, 4-way, 4 control buttons, trackball, 2 start buttons.

Thanks for the info, especially helpful is the way it shows which games are cocktail compatible.

However, I don't see listed anywhere how many buttons are required.

Thank you, I read that part, and totally glossed over it.
