So I am getting a vinyl prinout from GoG as my other thread has mentioned, but I have a few questions.
1. Since I am putting it on bare MDF, is the correct method to sand it down, apply primer, and sand again before I apply? I did a quick search but the threads were old
2. How should I cut holes in the vinyl to be able to place buttons/joys etc?
3. any other information would be appreciated.
thanks

I assume you already reviewed the Side Art Install 101 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,120041.0.html) thread, right?
Make sure that the surface is perfectly smooth and clean before you apply the art -- a bump the size of a grain of sand will show through the vinyl. :banghead:
When you separate vinyl from the backing paper, it can generate a static charge that attracts particles.
The two common ways to trim vinyl are a hobby/X-Acto knife with a fresh #11 blade (work close to the tip of the blade when cutting inside curves) or a router like EMDB used here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130690.msg1420772.html#msg1420772).

thanks scott. I just watched the video on applying the art very helpful.

I think the vinyl applied in that video is a lot thinner than the vinyl from GoG. At least mine was. It could never be folded around the edge like that. I'm glad I did the routing way...

So, I don't have a definitive answer on this,
Will adhesive work on bare mdf or should i prime it?

I would suggest priming, so it has a more even surface to adhere to.

Prime, sand and prime again to have a really flat surface to prevent fibers which will show through the vinyl...

So i primed and sanded my MDF and (semi)successfully put the artwork on.
Tomorrow/today i will cut the holes and see how it looks!
