Some of the games I play in Mame are noticably louder than others (dkong for example), and I'm looking for a way to store the volume settings so I don't have to adjust all the time.
As I understand, the line "volume 0" in mame.ini controls this, and by putting the line "volume -15" in dkong.ini I thought this would do the trick. But it doesn't.
The "volume" line doesn't seem to have any effect, whether I adjust it in mame.ini or any other ini-file.
Why?
Running Mame 0.152.

Volume control works for me (MAME 0.151). Try setting a way lower volume (i.e. "-50") and see if it works for you.
Try also the slider control (TAB menu) and see if it actually slows down the volume

The slider works just fine. And the ini file doesn't do anything, no matter what volume I put in it..
-
Use the slider menu and lower the speaker volumes not the overall volume, play a quick game and exit. I did this yesterday on a game that was louder than my others and it saved the volume level.

MAME does not save the main volume setting when you exit the game.
It will save the volume settings in the service menu of the game (F2 by default)
and on the speaker slider adjustments in MAME's in-game menu (TAB by default)

Yey, the speaker slider trick worked. :)
But I still don't get what the "volume"-line is doing in mame.ini, when it's good for absolutely nothing?

It works as it should for me (MAME 0.151)

Could be a 0.152-issue then? Will try 0.151 and check.
