Title: "NotTHEProject" Project..
Post by: liquid8 on February 15, 2014, 07:29:10 am
So I registered here in 2003 and have been in and out. Since I really haven't gotten space, time and money to do THE project, I figured I would go ahead and post what I have currently - maybe it will help someone and I can get some feedback :)

It started back then basically just making a standalone cp with keyboard encoder..

I retained parts for a while - but never really had anything to put them in. I eventually purchased a GP-Wiz40 and finally found something... waiting to go to the dump:

I then received a generous donation of some new balltop joysticks and buttons, I also purchased a few led buttons just to test them out - I thought it came out alright:

I grabbed a cheapo lcd mount and mounted the tv that I would use - straight to the wall (I did say this is NotTHEProject... it's a temp solution) :)

It's actually kind of nice that this still had some drawers - they are handy storage:

Still using Mamewah but with Hyperlaunch for everything except Mame right now:

That's a good way to repurpose a dresser.

that is a great way to start...this way you get all of those initial questions taken care of before you actually start building what you really want.  this way you can test out button spacing, control configurations and have your software set up and ready to go, so when the time comes to start building your cabinet, you will know exactly what you want and how to accomplish it.

i went through several temp solutions before i bought my first empty cabinet, and then it went through several revisions before i finally decided on what i wanted to do with it...it is the best way to figure out what works and what doesn't.

yeah this is working well for now. I don't know when I'll be able to start an actual cab but i have started a few sketchup mocks which i will share later. It will have a bit of console integration (you can see the crapload of controllers to the right of this one) :P

After doing sketches I suggest using Google Sketchup. That's what I ended up doing and it helped me figure out the measurements and took the mathematics out of the equation. ... Go figure.... I still messed up on the CP measurements. Nothing that wasn't easily fixed though.
