Hey, found this while surfing, thought it might be useful to someone here:

Note:  I have not tried this software, nor do I endorse it.  I just found it and thought I read an old post where someone was looking for a freeware program.  I'll let you guys be the judge if it is any good or not.

Also has a sister project: www.inkscape.org

I just hope they get the layering/grouping stuff more usable soon.  It works better in Inkscape but I've found Inkscape to be even more unstable than Sodipodi.  They're working on it though.
