Title: Arcade SmashUp Artwork
Post by: mavsprophecy on January 24, 2014, 03:37:09 pm
Been planning a cocktail cab for a while now.  I think I finally settled on a name - Arcade Smashup.  Here are three pieces of "Art" I am gonna frame to hang on the wall behind the machine.  Haven't figured out what I want to do for the actual bezel or cp yet as far as art goes.  It will be a 4/8 joystick with 3 buttons, regular midway type cocktail, so every character in the pictures are playable on the machine.  Thought Smashup would be a fun name and these pictures would give people an idea of what they could play.  The inside part will be an 8x10, and the bezel would be separate and a part of the frame.  Then I will put glass or something similar over all of it, probably holding it all together with clips.

Any opinions?  I haven't added any characters on the 3rd one, but I still like the way it looks.

I like the third "bezel" too, without characters.

I'm not a fan of collages that mix art styles. Sorry. I like the idea of the art showing playable games, but not of the execution.

I agree.  Thanks Yotsuya.  I like the 3rd one too.  Too easy to go overboard in this hobby.

There was a cab recently where someone had a "game character collage", but he had an artist do the characters in all the same style, and it really worked. When you mix art styles, sometimes it's just too jarring.

Yes, wish I had any talent in that area.  One of my sisters is a painter, and the other is a graphic designer.  Maybe they can help...

3rd one gets my vote.  I agree with others on here You can't mix the Art styles, or if you do you have to do it very well.
