I setup Windows 7 64bit on one of my Arcade PC's and got everything running, but had an issue with the boot resolution as it output 1024x768 for about half a second even with the low resolution boot screen enabled. So I decided to try XP 64bit instead, but have noticed a couple of games that were running full speed on Windows 7 are really choppy and dropping below 80% on XP 64bit. The games is question are Tekken 3 and NFL Blitz. I used exactly the same 64bit build and set-up of Mame on both operating systems.
So my question is:-
Is there a performance difference between XP 64bit and Windows 7 64bit when using a 64bit build of Mame?

Probably a performance difference in the underlying drivers. XP x64 support wasn't the best, while obviously with Win 7 64-bit systems became mainstream.

I'll agree this is the most likely culprit.
Honestly though, there's no way of knowing.

Updated from xp64 to win7 on my driving cab pc. Same emulators, same settings, the games ran the same.
Some like California Speed were just barely maintaining 100%, so I'd be able to tell if there were much difference. (calspeed is the same hardware as nfl blitz)
This wasn't an issue on my driving cab, but when I updated to the latest NVidia driver on my stand-up cab the performance went to crap.
NFL Blitz went from running full speed to being unplayable. Reverted to an older one and everything was back to full speed.

The latest AMD Catalyst driver for XP 64bit are 13.1 and Windows 7 64bit are at 13.9.

I just tested XP 32bit with a 32bit build of Mame and it's running Tekken 3 faster than XP 64bit with a 64bit build of Mame :(
I have check that I have all the latest drivers for XP 64bit and everything appears to be working fine, but I should get a speed improvement over XP 32bit not the opposite.
Window 7 64bit runs the fastest, but I haven't got a solution yet to the boot resolution issue with Windows 7 :banghead:

FWIW I use 32 bit mame to run in 32 bit XP, and everything I throw at it runs at 100% including most 3d games. 4.3 ghz i5.
