I was just looking at my monitor, sizing it up to mount into the Golden Tee cab I just found. It sure has a lot hot glue and silicon drizzled over it....is that normal? The guy I bought it from repairs a lot of monitors, said he had replaced over 50 caps on it. I played a few games on it at his place and it looked great to me. Just wondering if what is shown in the pics is normal?

as a rule it used at the factory to like on the screen control preset it
on the yoke it is on the hv leads,so they seal it
on the pic tube it is a production thing to hold the purity mags in place

So those big white blobs of silicone are from the factory, interesting...I'll take your word for it, thanks!

wells gardner had a run of bad yokes where the heat produced in them caused the plastic the coils were wrapped around to become brittle and the yoke to break off away from the tube and fall off. the large glob of silicone in the last pic is likely to help prevent/fix this issue. no big deal.
the others are used just to keep stuff from moving around (the purity rings which is factory done) or falling off (silicone holding neck board socket to the tube neck) or coming out of adjustment from vibration (flyback screen adjustment knob)
everything is good to go and not unlike anything I would do.

Cool, you guys that know how to fix monitors have my respect. I can do car clutches, and just learned how to restore an old snowmobile, but monitors seem like some crazy sh!t.
