Title: Looking to buy Donkey Kong with monitor issues
Post by: bgmagic on December 22, 2013, 01:25:58 pm
Hi,

A seller sent me some photos of a DK machine I was looking to buy.  Does anyone have any idea what might be going on with this monitor issue from looking at the photos?  He says it has sound so it would seem that this is a monitor issue most likely.  Its looking like this cabinet is all original so it would be a Sanyo monitor if that helps any.

Thanks!!

It could simply be a sync issue. hard to say just by pics without messing with it.
It could also possibly be an issue with the game board or the roms on the game board.
working sound doesn't rule out the game board. the sound board is actually on the monitor in those cabs

I've got a DK game here that does the exact same thing. Powering it on and off a few times fixes it right up!

Obviously I havent had a chance to dig into it any deeper.

Another simple and obvious step is always make sure your 5 volts to the
Game board is proper at like 5.1volts.
This needs to be measured at the game board, not the power supply.

I would buy it expecting to be able to adjust the problem away by adjusting the +b, Hz, H-hold, and v-hold.  but with My luck I'd find out the game board was bad and have to spend the $150 to replace it.

the problem is the H-Hold is off and needs to be adjusted.

it is located behind the flyback on the chassis.

if it has not had a cap kit it will need one.

if you need it fixed and are in the US you are welcome to send it in for repair.
