Title: Here's what a wood/sheet metal DDR pad should NOT look like
Post by: lcmgadgets on December 13, 2013, 09:43:15 am
Okay, I've been meaning/promising to admit my shame for some time, & now that I'm getting rid of it, here's a last pic before it goes. The sheet metal has collected some dirt over the couple of years this things been sitting around--it WAS shinier.

In my defence, this was intended as a prototype. It's sized for a 6 year old (I think the panels r 9" x 9"). It does work--sort of, the pads misfire regularly & the brass adjustment screws on the bottom can't correct for it. But how did I think that tubing held on with big bolts would look okay? & the control box looks handy to pick the pad up by, but its only thin plastic held on by 2 screws--not load bearing. & the DDR buttons may b arcade authentic, but on such a small box?! Ugh. I learned some lessons on this thing. & my son, who I built it for, never took to it. Well, it's off to the Goodwill now.

Looks better than my roll-up undersized original xbox pads which have been used maybe three times.

looks better than my roll up (read as "folded up") plastic mat gamecube DDR pad that was used for 1 game.

Yeah, this thing looks legit. It's a shame if it misfires sometimes.  I would have killed to have one of these about 8 years ago.  Instead of going to the gym I was doing an hour of DDR day.   :dunno Not cool?

.

Yeah, the ipad pic doesn't show the nuts holding the tubing rail on, the paint runs on the control box (tried to do it all with 1 coat), or the crappy plastic skirt below the rail(to hide the 2x4 base) held on with big screws. But thanks.

The misfires r due to the way I soldered the wires to the metal pads, I think, & the only way to repair them would b to completely rebuild the pads. If/when I build the full size (I'm considering going white elephant on that--induction pads) I'll avoid these mistakes.
