Title: MAME not working from 0.149 - Black screen
Post by: nordemoniac on December 08, 2013, 02:21:32 pm
Hi!

I just got the 0.151 rompack, but couldn't get it working with MAME 0.151. Propably something to do with this being an internal G31/G33 intel card, no PCI-e card here...

Anyways, I downloaded the 0.148 emu, but copied ONLY the mame.exe from this emu, and replaced the 0.151 mame.exe, but let the other files be (0.151 version). And now it worked fine!
So it's something in the exe itself it seems...

Should I rather download and install the whole 0.148 emulator, and stay there, and also download the whole 0.148 rompack as well, to be sure everything is at the same version?

Edit:
Now I can see that a 0.148 rompack doesn't exist, only 0.149 and newer...

Help please! I can't seem to use a newer MAME emu than 0.148, but which rompack should I use?

Use the latest binary from mamedev.org
There is no reason it wouldn't work when 148 does on your system. Perhaps try extracting everything in a fresh folder

Check if MAME still crashes after disabling cheats.  I updated recently and found out MAME was crashing on certain ROM's due to the new cheat file.  I had to regress to the cheat file for MAME 0.142 to stop the crashes.

there are other reports of things not working properly after the latest DX changes in MAME when using internal chipsets, so 'internal G31/G33 intel' really could be the issue.

in which case it's unlikely anything will fix it except forcing -video ddraw instead, but that comes at a cost

Atm. I'm running 0.148 with 0.151 romset. This seems to work, although I'm not sure if some of the roms can be buggy...

But wow, Mario Bros sounds awful! That super loud walking sound...
