Wii U - Super Mario 3D World Gameplay Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLOKVABfrzw#)
Anyone else think this great. Looks like they put a more effort into it than nsmb wii u. I cant wait to grab it on release day. :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

Already posted it in the Wii U thread and while most people were rightfully excited, as per usual one Nintendo hating jackass flamed it. People that don't know a good game when they see one are a thing of pity.
-
That is a perfect example of why software is more important in console gaming than hardware. :applaud:
-
Maybe this will shift enough consoles that they finally release the Wii U Key
-
Usually they have to rebuild those devices when a new Mario flagship title comes out. They always come with OS updates that patch any software holes.
-
The Wii U is more like the 360 in that respect this go around. There are very few system updates because now the online functionality has improved and individual titles are patched on the fly.
You know for a split second I thought of dressing up as Cat Mario for Halloween and then I realized just how disturbing that would be in real life. ;)
-
I find it pretty unlikely a system update is going to knock out a drive emulator, I don't believe that's ever happened in the past.
-
why is mario a cat now and why is he collecting coins like sonic :dunno

Why was he a raccoon in Super Mario 3? Mario has collected coins since the original Mario Bros. in 1983.
-
Sonic collects rings. Apparently that's a big difference.

Waiting for a game where Sonic mails in his Cash4Gold envelope.

Seriously who doesn't know that Mario collects coins? SNAAAAKE have you ever played a Mario game?
Anyway...
A big enough difference not to get sued apparently. Face it, Sonic is a poor man's Mario. They were trying to hard with him... the trailer for the Robocop reboot comes to mind:
"Hey that's not edgy enough, let's paint him black and have red lights and make him move faster and stuff".
It's like the marketers never noticed that people liked the old Robocop (aka Mario) just fine the way he was.
Of course some Sonic games are playable and actually fun... I doubt I'll be able to say the same thing for the Robo-reboot. ;)
But that aside it's kind of strange that since SMB came out nearly all platformers, even the Nintendo-owned DKC have a "collect 100 widgets to get an extra life" mechanic. You would think if you were going to rip-off SMB, you would copy the spot-on jumping mechanic.
Neko-Mario (aka Cat Mario) is pretty awesome actually. He can climb walls, do a Kung-Lao-style diving attack, charge at the enemy, and something Mario has never been able to do before, he can directly attack the enemy via clawing him. Seriously after all these years you'd think Mario would have learned how to ball up his fist and throw a punch, but hey, clawing is better.

Did you forget Super Mario 64?

Fair enough, but the punch in Mario 64 was pretty worthless.

I think it's fair to say everyone was copying that mechanic by the time DKC came out. I suppose the rule of 100 was a standard gamers came to expect. Also that the counter is typically only two digits (save for Sonic):

I'm not really talking about the amount of widgets, but really the fact that collecting stuff gives you a 1-up. It's a rather pointless mechanic actually.
-
was trolling my bad. wanted to see what kind reaction Id get from something like "why is mario collecting coins" :lol
-
ahem... that aside...
Holy crap! If you can make it through the 30 boring minutes of the Nintendo Direct from this morning they show even more stuff this game has to offer.
Check out the 10 new things about the game... the first few are pretty lame, but things start getting interesting around 6 or 7

Wow that does look pretty amazing.
Does anyone know when the next Metroid will finally appear? That will most likely be the point at which I pick up a Wii U.
-
I think Other M stalled any hopes of another Metroid game anytime soon. Which is odd because that game was actually pretty good aside from the strange missile mechanic.
-
I haven't played very far into Other M yet, but what I have played seemed pretty good.
-
Apparently we are in the minority. It was critically panned and had low sales figures... at least for a Metroid game anyway.
-
I never got a chance to play it. The Prime games were golden. I loved them so much. Waiting for my boys to get a little older so I can play through them again with them.
-
It's more of a 2d throwback, except for this odd mechanic where you switch to 3d and can't move when firing missiles.
Most people took exception with the story, which was indeed pretty weak BUT it was written by metroid's creator, so you can't really complain.
