.....Well I know I'm weird so don't bother point that out to me....but I thought that the beauty of a PCB board needed to be on display.
Thus I'm proud to officially unveil my "ART of the game". In particular this is a Zaxxon board mounted with screen shots onto a 2' x 3' frame (approx. dimensions).
The screenshots, cab shots etc are mounted on foam core to give them more depth, and I've obviously left the glass off so that you may better "connect" with the board on a tactile level (very artsy of me don't you think?).
I think it's fun when I show my cabs off to friends that they understand just how large a single PCB board really is. My wife gave me a look at first...but even she was surprised as how cool it looks in my "game room".
Enjoy the pics...and my wierdness.

Nice. There's been weirder stuff around here believe me :)
I was toying with the same idea with my small collection of arcade laserdiscs...but after hanging up one it looked like I had a platinum record or something... ::)
-
Very cool. I think it is the best presentation of a pcb that I have seen.
Well done! :D
-
thats pretty cool! i wouldnt mind having one now

Cool idea. Although it might look cooler if you weren't using a frame from grandma's living room ;)

..... Actually my wife said something similar...but the point was to make it look like a piece in a fine art museum.....thus the gold leafy frame.

That's a good point - I think it would look even better with a different frame.
The best frame you could ever use for anything is a matte-black thin frame(i like metal) and a white/off-white mat (if needed). They are cheap, classy and very very clean. Plus black brings out the color in anything :)
But looks great as-is. Now there'll be a spike in PCB bidding probably.

I like it--but it makes me think that you won some sort of award for designing the zaxxon board :P You know how artists get records, designers get designs, engineers get first blueprints etc. Just tell everyone that you are the world record holder and they dismantled the machine witht he high score in your honour--if you can say it with a straight face--you're golden! ;) ;D

Thats is very cool. I have been toying for about 7 years with the idea of framing The front glass of a Space Invaders with lights behind it of course. I wish I could find some way to stop the paint from peeling off the glass.

Dude, is that an alarm clock and reading lamp on a bed-side table? That's in your bedroom, isn't it?! Admit it! :)

lol-- I just noticed that--too funny--first thing you do each morning at the last thing you do each night--GALAXIAN. My hat is tipped to you Mr. dedicated arcade fan! ;D
As long as you don't slip a quarter in there while you and the wife are being "intimate" it should work out just fine ;) ;D ;D

I have a similarly mounted (although not as nicely) NOS "HB's Olympics" kit. It was the only thing I could think to do with the darn kit, since it is a refit for a Donkey Kong (and uses the Donkey Kong PCB) thus it can't really be used on a machine.

....lol....hmmm a bed side cocktail......not a bad idea. Kinda' reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George starts eating sandwiches when he's being intimate w/his girlfriend....it worked for George! (heightening his "experience").
Actually what you're seeing is a lamp & clock sitting on top of one of my surround speakers (the front left) in my "game room/gym"........(actually a spare 3rd bedroom).

i don't think this would work in a thin frame due to stability and strength reasons. also as an artist my wife says not everything looks perfect in a think black frame, and that is why there are thousands of frame mouldings to choose from. but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

were those working boards?

were those working boards?
Even if they're not that still won't make it ok, as they could always be restored.
j/k :P

were those working boards?
...no boards were injured for this art project. I simply screwed them onto the cardboard (that's covered w/heavy weight ivory paper as a backgroup) using pre existing holes in the boards.
...the sound doesn't work properly anyway on those vintage boards (or so the seller told me who I bought them from).

Rotate 90 degrees and put a real marquee.

That is a cool idea!

...I thought of that but it comes down to how big did I want this thing to really be? Right now it almost 2 foot by 3 foot!
