There are stretched displays that would make a perfect marquee:

with a slide adjustment to mame, it would become possible to have the individual marquee, that adapts to the selected game.
Has anyone ever considered something like this or has anyone experience with displays of that kind?
Regards, Stefan

yep various people have played with it, myself included but I've never actually committed it to a design.

people have thought of this, $500 for just a marquee is steep.
I cant remember who did it, but someone mounted a big LCD vertically and used the top portion of the screen as a marquee. I cant find the thread, so I leave it up to the BYOAChadders to find it for me.

I used the top half of a 27" monitor to display marquees on my showcase cab. The bottom half tucked very nicely behind the main monitor. I used a program called Marquee Magician to display the marquees when a game loaded. And with the aluminum bezel I created for it, u would swear it was a wide short monitor like the ones at that link the OP posted. I think the monitor set me back about $200.

There's also RandyT's LCD Marquee in an old Defender cab here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,70840.msg726672.html#msg726672).

actually thats the one I was thinking about when I posted, I was wrong about it being vertical, but thanks for finding it!
I have the same thing on a MUCH smaller scale:
7" LCD inside a printed marquee:

I have a litemax one which is pretty sweet - not in a cab yet as have no time for building at the mo but I think the suggestions of using a larger monitor and then covering half are much more wallet friendly and can be designed into the cab from the start (aka gamepimp which looks ace)
Here's mine:

pyract, what program are u using to display those images in the LG monitor? I have one of those that I've been wanting to use for a project. But the program I normally use (Marquee Magician) causes the image to get cutoff at the bottom. Lmk. Thx!

I'm using Irfanview. I have it set to display full screen, center on the upper monitor. I have the monitor set to display the middle of the desktop area, and I make sure all of my marquees are sized 1360x480. If the marquee's original aspect ratio is different, I fill in the empty space with black.
