I have the MAME .146 set, MA 2.09, all updated drivers and codecs. When I point MA to the video folder for ANY emulator, the video does not transcode from mp4 (all that's available from emumovies). I'm trying to run a few of the popular ones; NES, SNES, Genesis, MAME, Lynx, etc.
None of these display the movies, but display the artwork if I change the directory in MA preferences. Does MA ONLY read .avi? I dont want to go back to HS if I can avoid it.

Yeah Maximus Arcade doesn't (currently) support mp4, and doesn't transcode any videos whatsoever. During it's 'dormant period' Maximus has fallen behind a bit in terms of the video formats favored by more modern up to date frontends like GameEx and Maximus Arcade (no idea what video formats are supported by MALA).
At any rate, I keep hearing rumblings that Maximus Arcade is going to rise from the grave and begin active support and development at some point in the near future, but to be honest I haven't seen much evidence to support that claim (yet). So who knows maybe someday in the near future MA will be updated to support mp4 videos.
In the meantime you can always use Handbrake to convert your current video set. You can even batch convert them using the Handbrake command line interface. Good luck man!

If you use the DownLoader service from EmuMovies, there is an option that converts what do download into .AVI on the fly.

Also, you have an outdated version of Maximus Arcade. The latest release is 2.10final.

Emumovies has it's own video converter: http://emumovies.com/forums/index.php/files/file/1065-emumovies-video-converter/ (http://emumovies.com/forums/index.php/files/file/1065-emumovies-video-converter/)

That would be the best bet since he already has the Mp4s.
Nice. I think I will use that software in the future as well!

Just don't use Maximus. Other FE's are kept up and not tainted by the shadiness that occurred with Maximus

I have converted all MP4 files to AVI and placed them in the Videosnaps folder, did a rescan of mame on launch and it will only play the AUDIO portion of the video.. not VIDEO.. what could I possibly be doing wrong ??? Should I convert them to FLV format ???
I am debating on if I should drop the 25.00 US on Maximus but from what I see there is 0 support anywhere for it.. I tried to get a few Themes from Maximus site and the pages go no where.. I saw a video for Delusional Ultimate theme I wanted to use, how can I use it if ya can't get it ?
Is Maximus DEAD and should I save my money and try Hyperspin or any other front end ????

"Any video converter" is a good program to keep on your pc. Comes in handy for me all the time.

I have one on my pc.. The problem is, if there is no information on what formats Maximus will actually play properly, whats the point of it.. I'm not about to do a trial and error test on every format just to see if one works.. After this many years you would figure someone would have found the file type or codec needed?? Maximus could have updated they're website with this info.. If they want peoples money for the program they should have even the most basic info up to date and not years old with missing links...

You don't have the proper codecs. You can download a great codec pack here: http://www.cccp-project.net/ (http://www.cccp-project.net/)
Also, not sure if you are aware, but for a limited time you can buy the software for $9.99: http://www.maximus-arcade.com/products/maximus-arcade-software-registration-code (http://www.maximus-arcade.com/products/maximus-arcade-software-registration-code)
Just keep in mind you will get zero support. There hasn't been a new version in ages and it does have it's share of bugs.

Any specific codec that i would need ? And are there plans to update the Maximus website with new info and maybe actual links to your theme??

Maximus is owned by x-arcade now I think. They have been the owner for a few years. They have not updated anything for a long time. When x-arcade got involved there was hope that they would continue to develop the software, but it seems like they are just milking it by selling keys with no actual development. Pretty sad really as it is a very easy to use front end with lots of potential...

I hear ya.. It really doesn't take much to update the website with more upto date info and fix the links for skins.. Who knows, that might even spark sales?? Even at 9.99 I wouldn't buy it if I can't get it to perform the way it should... Funny thing is, I can't even figure out how to exit the program without doing Alt-F4 or doing task manager and killing it..
Seriously, it costs next to nothing to let the software be free and take on a life of its own by letting people program the code as open source.

Control+Q exits the program. Control+P brings up preferences. I think .avi works for vids.

You can also right click and it will bring up a menu that allows you to go to preferences, shut off the computer, or simply quit the front end.

So I installed both Codec packs from that site and still all I get is Audio.. No video.. is it possible that you could be a little more specific on what codec or setting in the pack I am missing ?
