Title: Should I bother with dual boot?
Post by: jginiso on April 02, 2002, 12:47:39 pm
I was under the impression that MAME ran more smoothly in DOS until I came across a post on this board saying that people run MAME in DOS because they have to, not because they choose to (hardware limitations). I am building a cab and was going to dual boot Dos 6.22 and XP for MAME and Daphne respectively. Is this necessary?

Thanks
James

If you have enough resources to run Xp then it's really dumb to keep a dos boot on your machine.  Mame works like this....  When your machine is so crappy that you can run win well with it then it's best to use dos to free up extra resources.  In all other cases mame will run just as well in win as it does in dos.  Now for xp specifically if your running analoge mame or need to program your ipac on the fly  then you might want to downgrade to 98se.  Otherwise your all set.  :)
