Title: Xbox 360 Wired controller hack help!!! please
Post by: Lucky Rockmore on July 18, 2013, 05:33:35 pm
So Im back at messing around with my 360 arcade stick with an official Microsoft wired controller, and for the oddest reason the controller seems to be wiggin out on me!!! What I mean is that it randomly goes up, down and left on its own, heres the kicker;IT NEVER GOES RIGHT! just left, up and down. This happens at the dashboard and/or in menus of games.

It isn't the Sanwa arcade joystick because in the trouble shooting process I disconnected it and all its respective inputs i.e. U,D,L,R, There isn't any interference with the analog sticks either, I checked for that as well.

The only thing I can think of is that I did remove the triggers from the controller's pcb. I did read about how to make these digital as oppose to analog, but never put the resistors on.......Needless to say Im pretty frustrated here and could really use some insight on this.......... thanks !!!

O yeah, sorry I worked too many hours in the heat today lol.

one possibilty is there is a shared trace on some boards and why it is doing that.

but the main one first is the control dont know what to think/do when the triggers or stick assemblies are removed and nothing is there to regulate their voltage/ground.

stick them back in and shoot some hot glue down in the stick assembly from the top or on the side of the trigger pot in the closed spot if you have no use for them or use a 10k resistor for each trigger and two for each analog stick assembly if you want to make them work as extra buttons.

there spots cannot be left blank though all kinds of weird things can happen.

Hey Northern, I appreciate your input. I even checked Haruman,s thread (saw your posts there as well) and some info over at xboxscene.......... I never took off the thumbpads or "sticks" if that's what you mean, but yea, triggers are gone. so Ill give the resistors a try, Im just trying to find out exactly what and where to solder these things to. I have both an old 360 controller and a new one w common ground. This is what Ive found so far

A lot of this is Foreign language to me, but if theres anything else that might help me out VISUALLY, Id be very grateful! thanks again

the third link use pic 3&4 and see the starred note about what to to with them after the pics end.

l1 l2 l3 is left trigger and r1 r2 r3 is the right trigger.

also note that is not the solder side of the board in them pics.

the center pin of the 3 holes for each pot is signal on all triggers and sticks.

so once said and done if you wanted you can get 3 extra buttons out of each analog/thumb stick.

6 extra's in total if both sticks are done up like the triggers.

1 gained button from the analog's up/down 2 from the analogs left/right 3 from the thumbstick button / clicker / l3 r3 on playstations.

for pc use that would allow a 2nd digital joystick to be hooked up if needed for example :notworthy:

not required but a few extra's buttons that can be had that most never mention or post or at least that I have seen but have done already  :lol

EDIT: those pics/example's can be used on wired or wireless matrix or common becuase the analog functions of the sticks and trigger pots remain the same on all board type becuase they all use the same exact 10k pots and they all mount in the same orientation/place/direction.

I dont do anything with 3rd party so anything for them I would have no clue though.

Ok Northern, I plan on soldering tomorrow, finally got some time off from the baby.... let me get this straight, I just plan on doing the triggers, so everything I've discovered and you discussed in this thread (minus the stuff about the analogs sticks) is sound advice and should result in a properly working hacked 360 pad, correct? I seriously don't know what Ill do if once I'm done and the initial  problem persists...............Just looking to make sure I haven't missed anything. thanks again man!!

yup (1) 10k resistor per side

the center is a def. needed signal so if the bottom dont pick up desolder it and go to the top.

I dont recall of hand if it is the top or bottom of the 3 holes to bypass but the center need to go to one leg for sure and it's orientation does not matter either leg in the center is fine but not both lol.
