Nice film. Saw it this afternoon.
I won't give any spoilers but in an odd twist of events Kirk dies in the film and they kick out Scotty. :lol
I give it solid 5 out of 5. Simply breathtaking. :woot
No mucking about this time.
Just go see it, and I would opt for the 3D this time around.
So the future of Starwars is in good hands, even if the Star Trek franchise is serious limited.

is your "spoiler" true or are you making a joke?

You will have to see the film, but I will say that it upset me (big baby).

I'm sure Howard will be along shortly to tell you how wrong you are and how terrible the movie is...
-
Sounds promising. Same time next year, I'll probably've seen it....

My primary issue with this movie is it's location based on trailers. I haven't seen the movie yet but I hope it deals with more than just earth.
-
Let's put it this way - I am seeing it tonight in 3d it is total trekked awesome. Lol the trailers do not make it any way near the thrill ride this film is.
I hear there is trouble with Disney and some cinemas with releasing this film....
Edit: damn Android corrective type....

It was enjoyable but wasn't great.
The whole super BA bad guy just isn't the way to go if you want to develop a meaningful story, it's a cop out.

I suspect my excitement will temper over time but I really liked it. What I've noticed though is my non-Trekkie friends and family liked it a lot more than I did. It is really an action movie with Star Trek elements thrown in.
-
I finally got round to seeing this last weekend. I enjoyed it a lot but also found it slightly disappointing. That might sound contradictory but it's really a reflection of how high my expectations had become after seeing the first reboot, which I thought was awesome.
I'd say this is my second favourite of the Star Trek films, with the first reboot being my favourite.

Completely loved the movie. Actually loved it more than the previous JJ Abrams one. If I am to get super picky about the film, I only have a couple complaints. Again, just a nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking.
Spoiler: The first issue I had was that Klingons felt forced into the film out of obligation. There wasn't room for aliens in the script, and so it seems like they had to write the Klingons in, and they were almost there for you to see how klingons would look in this universe.
Wrath of Kahn is my fav trek film, this was a super tribute to it. We you compare the two, this one was totally missing the great starship to starship fighting that was in Wrath of Kahn. It always reminded me of submarine warfare, and Wrath of Kahn did it very well. This movie, the enterprise was disabled before any real clever fighting could occur. Oh well, maybe next film will have it.

That's my primary issue with this movie,
It was just the wrath of Kahn redone. Do something different, something original, something that star trek is SUPPOSED to be about. Exporation, seeking out new civilizations, SPACE. Stop constantly returning to earth. It was an action movie wearing a star trek shirt.

I hear ya there. Although I still really enjoyed Star Trek 4 much more than say Star Trek the Motion Picture, which probably fit the bill of alien exploration and the vibe from the TV show the most. The motion picture was a film that was more good in an E.T. way; I more just respect it for what it is than really get into it as an entertaining film.
So I guess any day of the week I will take a very well done Star Trek on Earth above a mediocre Star Trek in deep space, but if you are gonna reboot the series from the era the the TV show took place, I'd think you would want to actually explore new worlds, meet weird aliens, find deadly and mysterious alien technology, etc... The Kahn thing felt way too early in the series to actually happen. For Admiral Robocop to find Kahn in deep space, deal with him long enough to work on creating technology and then throw Kahn's crew in torpedos all before the time in the original timeline where Kirk found Kahn seemed a bit odd of a timeline change. OK, I know I am getting a bit too trekkie here... :lol

Agreed. That's my main complaint as well. Although the characters were well written, the actual story was a little dull and unimaginative. They had the whole Star Trek universe, and a completely new timeline to play with, but they chose to play safe and essentially remake a previous movie (albeit one of the better ones). If they really had to resurrect Khan, they could at least have done something different with the character, like make him a good guy in this timeline (at least initially).
The frustrating thing is that they took some risks in the first film. For example, destroying the Vulcan home world was a pretty bold move which I didn't see coming. They also risked upsetting the Star Trek purists by creating a romance between Spock and Uhura. It probably sounded like a crazy idea on paper, but IMHO it actually works really well.
The film was still good. But it could have been so much more.

It was "Space Seed" redone.
I enjoyed this movie. Sure they could have done some things differently but I was entertained.
