Decided to post pictures, even though my camera is complete shite.
Guy wants a 4-Player, originally wanted 8-Buttons per player.......But I talked him down to 8 buttons for Pl1\Pl2 and 4 buttons for Pl3\Pl4.
I am not working off anyone's plans, winging it off of plans I drew up myself.
The base cabinet shell is the same design as the Clyde's Corner with the front cut off for a control panel and some slight design tweaks

That is where I am at on this build. More to come.

I like the hood shape, what size monitor is going in there?

24" LED my good man
-
How's the viewing angle from the P3 & P4 positions with the curved sides like that? Any of the wood get in the way of viewing the left and right edges of the monitor?
Looks like the monitor would have to be mounted back a bit. Just wondering out loud since can't tell envision how the monitor will be positioned yet. Besides, I'm just looking at a bunch of pictures and not standing in front of it. ;)
Construction is looking nice.
-
Thanks for chiming in maverick. To answer that question, here are some pictures.
Just got done mounting the screen (that is a bubble level on top)

With words:
The viewing angle is just perfect for P3\P4, I had my brother come by to test the angles. Had 3 people on it, everyone fits nicely and no wash-out on the screen (IPS for the win)

I-Pac4? Lono2? Something else?

GPWIZ40 ol' chap
Plus one hacked gamepad for the extra inputs.

:thumbs up:

Heres the thing with 4 player cabs.... They are either really tall, so the screen is at the same height of your head, or the screen is tilted back so that everyone is looking down perpendicular to, atleast, the y axis of the screen... like so:

Are you sure about your viewing angles cause in this picture you are already cutting off the top right of the screen. And as you get closer to the cab it looks like you will be even further right and a little higher causing the side panel to cover even more of the screen... Try standing in the player 4 position and take a pic of the screen...

Haha, that is very true. Got some more I need to post actually.
So I took a picture from the furthest player 4 will be on the edge. There is a little bit of the curve in the way.......Hmmmmm
(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag134/CoryDee/Img_130408175402_zps97c4e87b.jpeg)
The control template is not in the right position and will only have 4 buttons so don't mind its position.
Any suggestions?? Should I cut the shroud at a right angle??
-
Maybe bring the top of the screen a bit forward?
-
That little corner shouldn't be that big a deal. You might want to power up the monitor and get an image up to check the view angle for pl 3&4
Sent from my SCH-M828C using Tapatalk 2

Powered it up and connected it to my Laptop. The corner isn't an issue even a bit further when the focus is in the middle. If there is a problem I will just tilt it a bit forward.
Got the speaker panel all measured and installed as well as routed the t-molding.
(T-Molding will be Red, had some green left over from a previous build and wanted to see what it looks like)

I like the design but I too worry about the monitor angles. I guess we'll have to see how it plays out. You feel good with it so in the end that's all that really matters.
-
Nice build.
If you don't angle the outside sticks you can play two player Smash TV and Total Carnage with each player having dual sticks.

I love you for that

Bring that trackball down some! Players will thank you for doing that.
Otherwise, this is looking pretty nice. A nice combination of oldschool cabinet body aesthetics with a more modern approach on the control panel.

Thanks for such a nice comment. It is what I was going for.
The trackball has not been determined yet. Was planning on having it a bit lower than it was shown.

The quality of your work has improved greatly since the first few bartops.

Thanks boss, I keep one around in my house as a monument to this. I was thinking about removing the links in my bartops thread but decided against it for archival reasons. Plus I think besides the quality of the final product, it has some good information for beginners on using a laptop in a bartop.
-
Your right not to delete your links they are a good resource for beginners as you say and its also good for people to see your progress. Keep up the good work Cory.
+1 on the Smash TV/ Total Carnage idea.

Nice looking cab man.....
Word of advice.....
Don't put t-molding on and the pull it out especially on mdf, its a one time thing. When you pull it out it pull out the mdf material from the groove, when you put the red in you will notice the fit isnt as tight as the green was....
Also, don't forget i have 3" happs trackballs for sale $45.00 shipped.....would look much better than that 2 1/4....
:applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
Nice design though

Thanks for the tip, I think about it every-time I have test fitted t-molding. I just always forget the next time haha
This trackball is clear, I did a small hack to it. Cut the traces off of the LEDs and hooked up a RGB strip to it, looks awesome this way and will match all of his LED buttons & the many pinball cabinets he has making the living room glow.
I hooked up the LED strip with using a bit of telephone cord (4 wires, perfect match)
Trackball Modification - LED strip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI-zmt3SiSE#)
Also, I thoroughly enjoyed playing smash-tv on the 2-player bartops so this should be fun....I see a lot of "stress testing" before it gets to his place.......

Fourth and final coat of semi-gloss paint has dried, here are some pictures for your enjoyment. The arcade to the left is for a future thread, don't mind that

From humble beginnings come arcade machines of goodness  You can knock out Bartop's in your sleep and it looks like you can do full sized cabinets just as quickly. How about a cocktail cabinet next? You my good sir are proof that practice makes perfect :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

You sir are a schollar, thanks for the encouragement and praise. Means a lot.
I didn't want to ruin the surprise but I am waiting on the custom glass for the cocktail cabinet I am building for another customer. Just finished with the bottom half, it will have the 2 player 6-button configuration on the side as well.
So to re-cap, since I have been back from my trip for a month and 14 days I built or in the progress of finishing;
- Single Player Wolf Bartop *completed* (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,131562.0.html)
- Two Player Mario Bartop *completed* (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,131468.0.html)
- Two Player Street Fighter Mini\Cabaret *completed* (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,131467.0.html)
- Two Player LED Full Size *waiting on art*
- Four Player LED Full Size *this thread*
- Two Player\4 Controls Cocktail *waiting on glass*
I have been keeping myself busy....
-
Update:
Spent some time painstakingly putting together the LED buttons and after an hour I got the CP art applied and all the buttons. Save the wiring for later....

Spent a fair amount of time wiring up all the buttons and their LEDs......very tedious, yet relaxing. Running a "GP-Wiz40-Eco USB" for all player buttons and for the 8 coin\black buttons I used a hacked gamepad.
I love this thing so much, was jamming on some 4 player and I know that I need to have one for myself.
(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag134/CoryDee/IMG_20130416_235554_zps5001584f.jpg) (http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag134/CoryDee/IMG_20130416_235706_zps5b8d3f3a.jpg)
Tried to keep it tidy in there
(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag134/CoryDee/IMG_20130417_033752_zps5ceef9da.jpg)
I will have a decent camera to take some pictures in the next few days so bare with me. The trackball magnifies the position of the LEDs on the strip from the earlier mod, adds to the ambiance a bit

Very nice mate. Love this four player machine. Are you planning on leaving the screen raw or are you going to enclose it and put a bezel and plexi over it?... Either way very very nice..:)

Of course, a bezel is a must. I already cut the acrylic, just waiting on painting. Thanks for the compliment!
All that is left;
- Bezel
- Marquee
- Software Configuration
-
Almost everything is completed. Once I finish organizing everything and finish up all the software I will take off the acrylic pieces and clean up any dust that is on the cab.
Modified the coin reject button to serve as the power button for the computer. Used a two part epoxy thing and an old joystick micro-switch.

Cheers guys, thanks for the support.

I can already see kids randomly pushing the coin reject button and shutting down the computer.
Build looks nice.

It is for an adult household, no kids allowed. You have to press it all the way back to press the switch in.

Not sure why but the white LEDs kept failing on me. They would blink for a while then just stop working or become severely dim. I got replacements but still same issue with the new one and a different power supply. This only happens to the white LEDs, anyone know why? I decided to replace the LEDs in the normal housing with ones from an LED strip, was fun to dissect them.
The failing LEDs, the rest of the white ones were previously replaced with the same hack

It is a bit low because we took it off of the casters and he will be putting on adjustable risers like on the pinball feet.

It was well received and even got the approval of the warehouse arcade guy.

Wow, this is impressive. You have me wanting to build this now.
Do you give out your blueprints?

I don't have any blueprints for this beast. But I would be willing to mail you an outline I have of the side panel. This would allow you to creat the sides of that arcade and it is pretty easy to figure the rest out. Most, actually all, of my builds I built from scratch. No blueprints, no CAD drawings, nothing. Just good old fashion putting stuff together in my head.
So, with the side panels cut all you need is some rectangle pieces for the rest of it really. A large one for the kickplate\coindoor area and the back panel, then some smaller ones for the rest. Put together a control panel 2 or 4 players to slap on it. I would be willing to help if you wanted to go through the process.
It barely cost me anything to build it (the wood structure), maybe around $65 for all the wood parts including supports and glue. Very simple box, but sturdy!
Thanks for the compliment boss!

hey very nice build mate.
looks fantastic.
quick question..............how long did it take start to finish, and how much would you sell a set up like this for?

Start to finish is difficult to pinpoint cause I was doing 2 other builds at the same time. (a cocktail and a 2-player cabinet)
Probably took me 2 weeks, only took this long because I used the same designs as the 2-player, but cut an area for the 4-player control panel.
It was a commission piece with a nice computer in it, $1700.
I am going to post some pics soon of a conversion cab that is "now" a 4-player cabinet that already has an owner at $2,300. Granted the joysticks are almost $100 each.

wow $2,300 for a 4 player set up is very reasonable............ive seen some on ebay for $3600 but with full artwork.
and $1700 with a good computer...........you supply the computer? I think your cab is worth more.
anyway good job I love it

Nice work, indeed! Once I'm complete the 'art project' that my cabinet seems to have become, I was considering getting into the commercial manufacturing market. And that means building an outbuilding and then one of these babies (http://buildyourcnc.com/greenBullCNCMachineKit.aspx). Because everybody needs one of these, right?
;)

CoryBee, this turned out pretty nice man. You did that sweet tagged/graffiti cab right? I'd like to see a four player wtih a nice street feel and some more modern lines. I bet you could really hit it out of the park.

Thanks again all, I say the pictures I take are for "historical" reasons but in reality it is to see what you all think.
To touch on it, I am thinking about building a CNC soon....Just can't seem to break my wallet open with this hammer.

I made the cab and all but the owner had his buddy tag it up. I think it turned out wonderfully.
