and its a pretty good book. The sections are split up by groups of years:
72-76: birth of video games
77-79: invaders from space
80-82: the pac man years
83-85: the experimental years
86-present: the modern era
then a couple more small chapters on collecting and owning games...lots of pictures!

If this is the "Ultimate History" by Kent, then it is on my Christmas list. I haven't heard of "Encyclopedia". I wonder how it compares.

.....I just got my copy yesterday.....it's a nice book BUT the quality of the photos overall is amazingly poor.
For example there are many photos that are badly bit mapped, faded or literally look like a xerox of an old photo.
I was very surprised to see a horrible black and white photo of a Donkey Kong Machine. The pics on mame are in many instances 100% better than in this book.
All in all, I'm happy with it (because of the lack of books like this one)....but again, the photo quality is a big disappointment.
