Took mine out to our favorite restaurant and got her some more diamonds. Not because she expects it but because I enjoy surprising her. Ultimately I'm selfish, everything I do that makes her happy is because it makes me happy to do so. It's a wonder the OP is alone given the tone of his post.

Eh I dunno. On the one hand not wanting to do something for your significant other makes you read as kind of a jerk.
On the other, I don't like the idea of a artificial holiday that REQUIRES me to give somebody something. I'm one of these people that will just pick something up at any day or time because I think they might like it. To me that is special and "here is your required feb 14th gift as per tradition" is not.
Currently single, before you ask.

I knew that was coming.
Chirstmas is different. First off it's all inclusive. You get everybody you care about something. Secondly it's a more evenly balanced holiday. You generally get as much as you give, all the pressure isn't on you and ect. Christmas is at the end of the year when it would normally be depressing as well. The build up of that holiday makes it exciting, or at least passes the time in those cold winter months. The presents are only a small part of the holiday. That's one of the reason's Vday is annoying.... you probably just spent a ton of money two months prior. And of course, Christmas is a totally optional holiday. You don't have to celebrate it, lots don't for that matter. But if you are in a relationship you are pretty much required to celebrate Vday.

Gave my wife a nice card and wrote in it, "Don't worry about the dishes on the counter today...you can do them tomorrow". In turn, my wife gave me this.....

I know exactly zero people who celebrate Xmas substantially in a religious manner. Everybody, the entirety of people that I know on a regular basis, makes the exchange of presents the entire focus of the holiday. I live in a predominately Catholic area, too, so you would think at least one person would mention midnight mass at some point. Nope. Not one.

It's February and they push buying flowers on you...in a time of the year when flowers don't normally grow...and make you pay "hothouse"prices for them.

I come from the midwest where the majority of folks I know celebrate the holiday as a religious one. Most families I knew growing up read the gospel aloud on Christmas night or morning. Most folks my age just starting families have continued that tradition and the churches are packed on Christmas eve. I'm not that religious myself but I have found my experience to be vastly different than yours. I lived in a predominately protestant area and now that I've moved south I certainly do. Most Army folks tend to be a bit more traditional tho so that may account for some of it.

People are nice and all, but they require constant approval and accomplishment to feel worthwhile, to function. They have addictions, or at least addictive tendencies. In short: I am a lot of work for others to understand, others are just a lot of work. Forums are cool because neither of us is required to satisfy the other's needs. Well, not very much.

Oh. Na. If I wanted to troll, I'dve written a definitively, or at least intentionally, insulting thread. People interact because they want attention, at least to their ideas. I more just say things because I can and like to. The social results are mixed. I like to interact. If I needed to, like, relate......I'd say totally different things.
I was interested to find out some others here were non-practicers of the....holiday.

Wife and I mutally agreed not to do val-day years ago, I prefer to surprise her with something spontaneous on no particular occasion. Years ago when I was still dating, I did a val-day special which won me many points. I had a big talking teddy bear hand delivered to my girl in her classroom - a private, very conservative, girls boarding school. It was delivered by my best mate. Pretty gutsy on his part I think. I wonder if she still has the bear? :D
