Analog support has been added to Cannonball. :applaud:
I just saw this update and haven't tried it yet. (I will tonight!)
This isn't an emulator, but a complete rewrite in C++ by someone with a deep understanding of the game.
However, it requires MAME roms for the graphics and sound.

Cannonball is a program which allows you to play an enhanced version of Yu Suzuki's seminal arcade racer, OutRun, on a variety of systems:
60 fps gameplay (smoother than the original game)
True widescreen mode (extend the play area by 25%)
High Resolution mode (improves sprite scaling)
Time Trial Mode
Cheats
Customisable Music
High Score Saving
Western, Japanese & prototype track support
Analog & Digital controllers supported
Fixes bugs present in the original game

Cross-posting this to the "Official list of PC Games" thread so it doesn't get lost, very cool.

Absolutely awesome! One of my favorite games as a kid, I loved the fact you could choose your soundtrack on the car radio, lol good memories.

Gave this a spin on my driving cab last night.
It feels polished for a work in process.
Everything works as it should. The only thing I had an issue with was that a 2nd joystick couldn't be mapped to the shifter.
It could be worked around with an autohotkey script, but I have a feeling multiple devices will be supported in a future build.
Can't wait for force feedback to be added.
Definitely a must have for anyone with a widescreen driving setup.

One day hopefully I'll build one of these for Arcade and PC.... too many projects, not enough brain cells

Hrmm... I have a basic driving rig for GT5 and the like. I wonder if it will work with this?

Finally tried this out... really an incredible piece of work. I've got an original Outrun cab sitting, and I'm trying to figure out if I want to take it on. This might be the thing that keeps me going on it.
I wonder if I can get him to do a mod where the passenger has dark hair....

Lightbulb moment! I don't need a shifter I just need a wheel and one of the joysticks up/down for a shifter. Why didn't I think of that ?! Sure, I'll add a shifter later but I can do this NOW!
Cannonball is brilliant. I've not got a widescreen monitor so the benefits aren't there for me over the mame outrun but the further development (I hope) will be interesting.

I brought this to yt's attention. He said he'll consider revisiting controller issues later but for now he's concentrating on the track editor.
And it does support ffb.

Cannonball just sits at the highscore table after I put my name in and my only option is to exit with the menu button. Surely this isn't normal behaviour? If the arcade machine was set to freeplay (as Cannonball is) I would just be able to press Start for another game.

I haven't messed with this in forever, but maybe the folder or file where the high score is supposed to be saved to is set to read only.
