Working a deal right now to get back two old project cabinets I sold a year ago.
Buyer hasn't touched them and is willing to sell them back to me for what he paid.
(I gave him a deal and sold them to him at cost)
I'm excited and I've been toying with some ideas.
I picked up a WWF Wrestlefest & WWF Superstars board that I was going to toss in my Nintendo Popeye cabinet.......BUT.........then the idea came for a wrestling cabinet.
I'm toying with two ideas, (1) A retro looking WWF cabinet and/or (2) a Retro Wrestling cabinet with MAME and console emulation. The cabinet would only feature wrestling games. Starting with Atari (if they had any) upto select PS1 and Dreamcast games. I'm unsure if Gamecube emulation exists, I hear the WWF games they had were good.
Anyway............................
Thought I'd ask here if anyone has any ideas, colors, concepts, etc ?
I'm thinking a blue cabinet with yellow molding like the old WWF logo.
Yellow balltop joysticks, blue buttons, blue paint for the sides.
Thats about all I have.
So fire away !
thanks all

For gamecube emulation you can use Dolphin, official site = http://dolphin-emulator.com (http://dolphin-emulator.com)
Sounds like you got the colouring down, A couple of WWF Logo's on the sides, You could even do a stencil and use the logo they used in the 90s. It's the same logo on the mat in wrestlefest :)
Here is a list of all official wrestling games, Boy there are quite a few of them too :)

There is another thread here with the artwork from wrestlemania it may come in useful.

Thank you for the links.
Some great info provided.
I'm still bouncing ideas around but getting really excited about the project.
Coloring I think the blue and yellow theme will look good, and as pointed out it plays off the matt logo in one of the WWF games.
I'm thinking of calling the project MAMEMANIA and obvious (or perhaps not so obvious) play on Wrestlemania.
I love that with MaLa I can do a custom menu, really helps solidify the entire theme. So I'm looking forward to that.
Also with MaLa I love that I can do custom lists, so for smaller emulators like NES and Sega I may have the complete ROM set, but I will refine games to list specific and obviously the lists will be wrestling themed.
I think this could be really cool.
Some great emulation exists so I'm looking forward to having some great games.
Games like Day of Reckoning for Gamecube I'm told was awesome.
I also liked some of the ECW games from the Dreamcast.
I think this could be really cool.

Any true wrestling fan needs to check out the Fire Pro Wrestling series in it's various incarnations if you haven't already.... I discovered it in the form of Fire Pro Wrestling 6 Man Scramble on the Saturn, and subsequently played PS1, Dreamcast, GBA and PS2 versions. It is sprite-based graphics which may turn off many of today's gamers, but these games are insanely customizable for sprite-based games and are just ---steaming pile of meadow muffin----loads of fun. Character edit is rediculously deep seeing has how any little change required someone to draw each separate body part again from multiple angles. Huge move lists too. Lots of real wrestlers and MMA fighters from a plethora of real promotions included by default even if you had to do a lot of renaming... "Sting" might be called "Spike" by default, but they weren't foolin' anybody... ;D
The PS2 version eventually got an English translation but I played the hell out of those games as imports where I had to memorize which Japanese menu option did what. I love me some Fire Pro.
If I were doing retro cabinet art I'd be tempted to make it mostly a shout-out to the wrestlers from the 80s and early 90s who have died already... Andre, Macho Man, Big Bossman, Bam Bam Bigelow... actually the list is pretty long, which is kinda sad...

Ravishing Rick Rude, Mr.Perfect, Yokozuna, Bam Bam Terry Gordy , and every Von Erich ever

Thanks guys, appreciate all the ideas.
I myself am a HUGE fan of "Rowdy" Roddy Piper.
If I were to add a wrestler to the side art it would be him.
I'd like to look to see if i can get some cool images of him.
I wonder if there was character art of Piper from that WWE All Stars game.
-
I'm now on a side art high.
Thinking that some side art using the character art from "All Stars" would be awesome.
Savage, Pefect, Undertaker, Piper, Steamboat, Jake the Snake.
Some of my all time favorites are in that game.
I'd like to see if I could make, or get made "MAMEMANIA" logo in the style of a classic WWE logo.
-
I'm going to take a stab at doing the logo/marquee image tonight.
I've also created a thread should anyone wish to help me in creating this.
I'd like to have some sort of catch phrase on the marquee, any ideas ?
-
Love the idea. I was working on a remake of Wrestlefest before I got shut down by the WWE. I got a cease and desist letter from one of their lawyers. Then they put out that crappy remake a few months later. Anyway, that project is dead for now, but I had some artwork done of all the original wrestlefest characters. Here are a couple of them. Let me know if you are interested and I can send you all of them.

@ mhermann ,
That art is so cool I'm thinking once my printer see's the custom artwork he will want to keep selling it!
And would you be ok with me making my MaLa layout with your artwork ?
I usually make the layouts available for download when I'm done.
But should you not wish for it to be the case I don't mind keeping it just for me ! (insert evil laugh)
-
I'd actually like the rest of that artwork too... looks sweet.
-
Not done, this took about 10 minutes.
More polishing required
-
those are some awesome cartoon wrestlers, definitely should post them all up
-
I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of that art.
Even better still working with it to make something awesome.
-
PM sent to mhermann ,
I think WE ALL wanna see more of that awesome art !
Can't wait !
-
I have always had an old school wrestling dedicated cab in my project queue labeled "someday". I love the idea.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you pull off and helping in any way I can.
-
Thanks Chad,
I'm looking forward to taking this on myself.
I'm trying to complete my Mario Mame project now, then I'll be moving full steam @ the MameMania project.
-
Happy to say that my buddy was able to deliver the two project cabinets to me last week.
These were buy backs that I had sold 2 years ago and were never worked on.
I'll be doing the two projects @ the same time.
MameMania and a 60 in 1 to sell.
I'll move this to the projects section, however I have a small post on my blog of this (+ other projects).

Thanks all

I've started to work on this cabinet and the MaLa menu.
Menu is looking good, I'll need to post the images for all to see.
I'm having a good time making my MaLa menus again.
Speaking of which if anyone is interested in a custom MaLa layout email me : vibefx@gmail.com
-
Here is an example (work in progress) of my MaLa layout for the project.
Also included is some other MaLa stuff I've worked on.
I do custom work for anyone interested.

Oh man WWF Royal Rumble for SNES has got to be one of my all time favs. So much smashing of the L&R buttons ;D.
Don't want to miss the old SNES Saturday Night Slam Masters as well.
