Definitely taking the kids to see that. Thanks for posting it!
:applaud:

I generally hate disney... but this looks great.... so confused...
it has Q bert in it.... Q bert in modern popular culture... brain hurts... so awesome...
-
Woot!
-
Word on the street (I don't know if this is confirmed) is that Disney will be making and releasing for sale an actual classic style arcade machine based using the game in the movie. Pretty much the same thing they did with the original Tron.

That sounds like something you made up.
Nope. Found a linky.

Of course, there will video-game tie-ins with the film. "There better be," says Moore. "On top of a Wreck-It Ralph game, there will be an arcade version of Fix-It Felix, Jr. that will pop up around the country, including your favorite pizza parlor."
-
Awesome.
-
Wow, the first Disney movie I actually want to go see (not counting Pixar or Tron). That looks pretty cool.

It's probably because John Lasseter, the number one guy at Pixar, now runs the creative side of Disney Animation too.

Zangief is bad guy?

Q Bert has to be one of the more popular games to reference in pop culture. That pyramid, and a little orange dude swearing, pop up more often than almost anything not DK or Pac or Space Invaders. I just saw a reference to Q Bert the other day on Phineas and Ferb.
-
I gotta say, I am digging the obvious references in the Fix It Felix Arcade machine.

The game is playable on the official website for the movie
certainly has that classic 80s 8bit arcade vibe
-
Zangief is bad guy?
I'm out in the real world atm but popped in to make sure somebody mentioned this film. It looks pretty interesting. They've also got Kano and a few other MK characters in the movie as well as paperboy. That's just who I saw in the trailer.
Answereing your question, originally at least, Zagnief was a bad guy because his birthplace was the U.S.S.R. And of course all Soviet Russians are bad guys. ::)
I think the Fix It cab is interesting.... looks like a Ms. Pacman body, but it's artwork is blatently Donkey Kong. The "TobiKomi" name cracks me up as well. It screams "make it something Japanese sounding!"
-
I thought he was the bad guy because he was homosexual ???
Tobikomi means jump in japanese, so I think they are referencing "jump man" aka Mario. This can now be "the word on the street"
-
OMG OMG OMG I want to see this so bad!
In fact, I wish I could have worked on this!!
For years now I've been tryin to come up with an animated short-film story incorporating arcade characters.
The premise for this is perfect!!
Darn, wish I knew Disney was working on this.

I used to think this but I'm restoring a Q*Bert and nearly every civilian I've talked to about it hasn't a clue who Q*Bert is. Maybe the character himself is more recognizable than the name?
Either way I'm really looking forward to this movie. Showed the trailer to my kids last night and even they are pumped. This could be a good one for the whole family.
-
looks like Disney dug deep in their pockets to get some use of likeness licences for a buttload of game characters.
-

To start I like the rendering of a Pacman and a Galaga on each side of the Fit it Felix Jr. Cab.
Ok so *REALLY* paying attention to the trailer I see Horned Reaper, Smoke (or random generic black/grey ninja), Bowser, Zangief, Dr.Robotnik /Dr.Eggman, Bison, Pokey aka Clyde, Kano?( he has a robot arm and zig zags shaved in his head *shrug*), and a generic zombie.
The blue elf lady looks like a WoW character, I dunno the yellow robot, purple rhino, or green alien (Shuma Gorath doesn thave that many eyeballs). I think thats the mad hatter from Alice. I didnt see paperboy but he listed on the imdb along with Kano
-
Fix It Felix Jr is playable on Disney's website here:
http://disney.go.com/games/play3/?content=2006061#/games/play3/&content=2006061 (http://disney.go.com/games/play3/?content=2006061#/games/play3/&content=2006061)
Is there someone here that is smart enough to extract the flash game from the site and set it up so it could be a stand alone playable game?
I'd LOVE to build a reproduction cabinet based on the one from the movie and place it at our local movie theater this Nov for kids to play. It'd be cool. ;D ;D
Can anyone do this?

The generic zombie is actually a Zombie from HOTD.... note the blue skin and dual hatchets. Yeah, that's Kano. Not sure about Smoke though. It wasn't in the clip, but rumor is at least two more MK characters will be in the game... most likely Scorpion and Shao Khan. In one of the scenes where Ralph is walking you see something doing a backflip behind him. Pause it and it's (a very blurry) paperboy. I think Disney got a lot of walk on characters with their "main" character package, similar to how they did on Who Framed Roger Rabbit. If you see a game character from one company they most likey have access to that company's entire catalog for walk ons. I *think* the robot is from ratchet and clank or one of those Sony games that I don't play. Strangely enough there are purple rhino's in a ton of games. It's a staple for Nintendo and Hudson Soft. I've seen the green alien in another fighting game, but I can't put my finger on it. I think your right, it's not Shuma.
I think it's interesting that modern characters are not featured, but rather they are parodied.

I played this last night. The first level makes you think it's another lame flahs game, but further on the game REALLY gets challenging. It's actually pretty fun.
After saving the html page to my computer, there is a .js file called "swfaddress" I'm not real good at javascript, but I think that somebody that knew what they were doing could use that code to get the actual flash address. Then it's just a matter of saving it locally, IF Disney's servers will let you do so.

My son was pumped that Jane Lynch's character was Samus. We checked IMDB and her character has a different name. Sure seems like they are trying to evoke Samus though. Good stuff.

The guy I was talkin about was in the clip:

The only game I can think of with yellow robots with buzz saw hands was Cyborg Justice, on the sega genesis. Man that was an awesome game, I remember ripping arms and legs off of enemies and swapping them out with what my Cyborg had.
I'm SUPER hyped for this movie, and it comes out near my birthday, so that's instant grounds to make my GF go with me.

No she plays a terrible Gears of War parody. It's in the clip. You know, the female blonde-headed girl in that game? (Sorry I'm not a huge fan of GOW, so I don't know her name.)

Yeah I caught him in the clip, I'm just not sure if that's smoke. There are so many gray ninjas from the early 90's. It could be anyone from Ninja Gaiden's Ryu to the ninjas in Bad Dudes.
-
Heh... somebody over at neogaf found the rhino.
It's from altered beast of all things:

Could be a Malboro from Final Fantasy.
-
I doubt it.
The only ones with crowns are the overkings, and they have sweet mustaches. Honestly if you were a disney animator and some guy told you that you should put an old timey mustache on a Japanese tentacle monster, wouldn't you jump at the chance?
-
Gonna have to watch this one.
-
I saw this last night and we were talking about all the characters and this is what we have down.
In the Bad Guys Meeting.

11 The Beholder (Dungeons and Dragons)
12 Kano (Mortal Kombat)

ill try to extract the flash files soon...
-
If it weren't for the Disney logo, I would have thought this to be a Dreamworks movie, with how generic the plot is.

11 The Beholder (Dungeons and Dragons)
...
I don't think it's a beholder. Those are almost always brown and I've never seen one wearing a crown. I find it extremely disturbing that their are so many wierd, multi-eyed tentacle monsters in games that don't have anything to do with porn.
-

LOL. Reminds me of a VHS set one of my brother's friends used to own.
-
Heh... vhs era... that's pretty hardcore.
I think the Ninja might be from Shinobi.... you know the bad guy ninjas that jump at the screen when you use your throwing stars?
Still can't pin that guy down though.... damn there's almost as many ninjas in games as tentacle monsters.
Same goes for the Elf lady. She's most likely a dark elf from WOW due to the ears but damn... there are a lot of elves in games.
-
Pixar is going to produce a lot of crap now that Jobs is gone.

I read this at IGN:
"Finally, the villain support group contains a character we originally thought was the Beholder from the Dungeons & Dragons series. A reader also suggested to us that the creature might instead be the Marlboro King from the Final Fantasy series. As it turns out, neither theory is correct. Disney confirmed that the tentacled, crown-wearing monster is just a generic creature not tied to any particular game."

-
Sounds like they couldn't get the rights to any of the Sony properties then, cause that crown really makes you think of FF.
I hope there aren't too many of these parody characters in the film. The main characters I can see... much like Who Framed Roger Rabbit... but if you'll remember, outside of characters crucial to the plot WFRR only had real toons.
-
I gotta say, I am digging the obvious references in the Fix It Felix Arcade machine.
I'm surprised with the inconsistency in the design of the cabinets promoting the film. None of the CPs match what is shown in the trailer (Player 1, Player 2, Jump, and Fix buttons straight in a row).
This TobiKomi cab abandons the Bally Midway design and goes with Nintendo instead.

don't get me started on the rediculously over "beat up" the cabs are.
the marks on the control panel?? a bajillion people playing that couldn't make it look like that. someone took sandpaper to it.
-

This is very interesting. It might explain something we've seen. ;)

I noticed the flash game looks a bit different from the one on the promo cabinet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gxa_p_tULyE#ws)
Dunno if the one on the cabinet is even playable, or just a video.
For now to me, the cabinet is the rare arcade version I never played, and the flash version is the NES port. Just like when I was a kid.

heh, even the music on the flash game is very NES-ish.
-
Anyone crack this flash game yet?
-
i took a short stab at it. it seems to have multiple peices.
seems to have a loader
the game
some data
etc.
you would have to have all the peices to get it to work.
seems almost like it was put together with some kind of "make your own game" program.
but, i gave up. :-\
-
Yeah, I grabbed the title screen, instruction screen, and some music, but it's, well, in pieces.
Someone smarter than us must be able to extract this .swf program.

I gave it a stab earlier this month, but to no avail. Went so far as to decompile the swf wrapper, but couldn't even uncover the URL of the game swf.
I'm moderately adept at ActionScript 3.0 and could try and assemble the pieces if they're all there.

I feel another micro cab coming on ;D

Somebody with hacking skillz needs to take a look at the ios version. It is undoubtedly a swf player playing the website game.... so it should be possible to extract those missing swfs from that. Of course you would need to be prepared to invoke the wrath of Disney.... those dudes are hardcore!

It really is a lot of fun with the iCade. Easily my favorite game using the iCade.
This is probably old news but RidicRick has made Fix It Felix artwork that looks pretty sweet.

Hi!
This is a good fake games tribute for old times classics!
Im looking for Fix It Felix artwork and offline game.
Cant find RidicRick artwork... anybody have it?
Thanks in advance!

If you have dropbox (its free) PM me your email associated with it and I will send you the invite for the share folder with the files.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this game with my kids!

ridicrick: PM send, thanks!

saw the flick Saturday, it was pretty great, but the old school cameo stuff was only in the beginning and end of the movie not much impact on the story itself.
