Title: GameBox VS Happy Fish
Post by: quintinbiker on May 23, 2012, 01:09:45 am
Hi, as some might know, I've been using an old 100 in 1 board in my 1 cab, it's been giving problems, cause it's an old board and ram seems to give isues all the time, so i decided to replace it with the happy fish 193 in 1 board.

If you ever get into the situation to choose, don't go for the gamebox version (red board)
Rather go for the happy fish (green board) as the happy fish have all the hardware intagrated, and the gamebox boards is well, modified computer hardware, with normal ram and normal CPU that can give problems, and talking from experience, unreliable. sorry for the spelling.

Hm… Funny, my experience is the opposite. I Didn’t like the HappyFish at all. Menus with missing information, bad emulation, wrong colors etc.
I have a Gamebox/Redbox that runs the old classics perfect (from my point of view) and it is easy to upgrade to a better CPU and RAM.
It is also in somewhat possible to modify menus and content (at least the version with CF card that I have).

But of course, there might be different versions of both, so maybe we aren’t comparing the same things here.

If you're talking about the gamebox 450 in 1, i never used it, this is a gamebox 100 in 1, it used a memory card to store data on, not hardrive.
This board uses old dimm 172 pin ram, and an old celeron CPU, i actually took the heatsink off, and guess what, the cpu didn't even have thermal paste on it, and thermal paste is crytical, specially when you're board works hard and for hours on end.

Maybe you have better experience with the gamebox, but i really wasn't impressed.

The only bad thing that i can say, i've got the happy fish 1 board, is that some games has got sound isues, but i can live with that, as for the rest, i'm really impressed, isn't giving me any problems.

Pretty sure moderators discourage talk on these multi boards. However, from what i've seen on some other forums, the gamebox units are notorious for having some pretty crappy quality components and are known for blowing capacitors. It's a shame really because I've always been intrigued and interested in checking one out just to see how the OS is setup and the daughter board looks quite interesting as well. If you ever want to fix that gamebox board, I'd check with the capacitors first.

Discussion isn't bad ... linking to points of purchase is.

I'm awaiting the relaunch of the 128-in-1 to see if they get it right the second time around.
