Title: Slot cutter depth query
Post by: fuzzy-felt on May 16, 2012, 05:40:20 am
I've just received my slot cutter router bit from Amazon, which I had to import as I can't find anything suitable in the UK. Here are the details:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002TUCRA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002TUCRA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00)

I didn't appreciate how deep the slot will be (14mm or 9/16"). I think that the T-moulding spine will only be about half of that depth. Does this really matter, or am I heading for trouble for some reason? I'm asking before I take the plunge and open the box rendering it unsuitable to return.

Thanks.

It is fine.  You won't have any problems.  That is normal.

That's great. Thank you for the advice.

i used 9/16"  It'll allow for any remaining dust or splinters to just be pushed back into the groove.  Better too deep than too shallow :)

Yep, mine was 9/16" depth also, I think it's a pretty standard depth, worked great on my T-molding.
