Saw this at a Godfather's Pizza in Albert Lea Minnesota over the weekend. They had three of them screwed to the counter to display the menu and daily specials.
I-Inc IK161ABB 16" Widescreen LED Monitor

The outside measurements are 9.5h x 15w. While not perfect my first thought was that it might make a decent monitor to mount as a marquee.

I seen one at wally world today and I wanted to stop and look but you don't dare stop the flow of traffic in that store ya might wind up at the bottom of a stampede.

16:9 would work well if you had a Dragon's Lair style marquee though. The only way I found to get one that was the correct size and ratio, was to have an avionics company cut an LCD down to the correct size, but it cost soooooo much money, it's never going to happen (for me anyway).
I looked at everything looking for a marquee monitor, the best so far is a nice 22" 4:1 that's a little small for what I want, and a 43" 4:1 that's too big.
There is a high priced 29" (http://www.amazon.com/LG-M2900S-BN-panel-display-widescreen/dp/B001F4R2KQ) that might work as it's 17:6 aspect ratio, but it's still $660 (down from $1300).
Here is the post where the guy has a source for the 22", the 43" you'll have to look at an LG distributor.

Cut laptop screen from an avionics company (http://www.symbolicdisplays.com).

I don't see a 16:9 making a decent marquee.
-
It can if you're super clever like RandyT. (Or have a big marquee like DLair or one of those golf games.)

Has anyone ever found a "real" marquee sized LCD?

Check out litemax's offerings... http://www.litemax.com (http://www.litemax.com).... I like the ratio on the SSD2313 (http://www.litemax.com/PD_Products_Detail_51_141_1847_US_utf-8.html#.T2uGBHiR-jE).. It's appx 22.6"x6.4" or a 16:4.5 ratio
-
Wow! Where did you find those, I think the SSD2815 or the SSD2925 might be perfect for me, now I just have to find out if they are too expensive (I'm guessing around $2000).
By expensive I mean above $400 , I know that $400 isn't a high price for a custom LCD screen, but I just don't think I could spend anymore then that on it and feel right about it. I mean a $400 marquee is pricey enough, but it would go perfectly with my 28" 16:10 LCD primary screen, I think.
Thank you so much for another option, even if it is too expensive in the end. ;D
The 29 is 28.5"x11.25", the 28 is 28.5"x6", I found a video of the 29, keep in mind the 28 is 5" smaller in height but the same size width.

I got a couple of prices from the USA distributor displaze-inc.com. The 2313 is $1032, and the 2925 is $1345. Didn't get prices for 2815. Sorry!

I've been wondering for awhile now, would it be possible to achieve a similiar effect with either a projector or a monitor and some mirrors to direct the image to the marquee?
-
Problem with the projector is the focal length. 4 or 5 feet is hard to acheve in a cab without alot of mirrors.

I think it is something to look into... Some of the new LED pico projectors have throw distances as short as 6 inches. Plus these pico projectors that use LED lights dont generate much heat like older projectors.... Also they are cheap! ~$200

I know someone who has a pocket projector, I'm just not sure if it uses LEDs or something else. I'll ask him if I can run some tests.
