I was looking at some cocktail builds in the 'Project Announcements' forum. Most have the 2 sets of controls opposite of each other, and I was wondering what games are actually played on these? I'm asking, because I don't think I've never seen a cocktail cabinet before, let alone played on one.

Typically cocktail machines were from the classic/early era of arcade machines. Lots of vertical shooters and maze games.
Here's a list that I made with romlister (which was made specifically for this type of task).
This is a list of cocktail games, 2 buttons, 2 way or 4way joystick for each player, vertical monitor orientation.
IIRC, I've managed to put 135 games on my cocktail machine, and it covers most of the games that I remember playing as a kid.

thanks, I'll check out 'romlister' when I get home

Hyperspin has a great selection of vertical themes for a cocktail machine, its worth the efort.
-
MaLa is also great for a cocktail machine. I am using a customized (but freely available) version of the retroGUI skin:

this is running on an arcade monitor.

HEY NOP!!!
I dont mean to jack this thread but i would DO ANYTHING to snag your cocktail CFGS!!!
I cannot get "CFG Magician 1.62.exe" to work for the life of me!!!! I dont wanna manually set the dip switches for "cocktail mode"
I have a mamed out Ms. Pacman cabinet and the only time i can get cocktail flipping is manually setting the dips... I have been working on this for 4 hours today with LOTS of frustration (I am remoting into my cab)
If you zip/rared your CFG folder and it works i will 100% send you money for a beer!!!
-
doing that dipswitch work was one of the best parts of my cabinet build!
Get a friend, a beer (or 3) and spend an afternoon launching each game and testing the controls and flip the cocktail mode dipswitch for each game.
This helped me realize what my cabinet was capable of as well as making sure that each game worked properly. (for example, there are some games that don't flip properly due to emulation bugs) Maybe since my cab only has 130 or so games on it it didn't seem like such a big deal...
anyway, PM sent.

I ended up biting the bullet and doing EXACTLY what you said... I removed 7 messed up roms and flipped em all to cocktail... Lucky for me my buddy gave me a case of New Castles and a few pinches of "electric cabbage" needless to say i dont need the CFG's anymore... however given your speedy reply i will gladly send u a few bucks for a pint!
I will post link to CFG's anyways for the sake of karma and for saving someone time!!
Thanks again!
