Title: Donkey Kong Cocktail Restoration
Post by: dprush83 on March 18, 2012, 05:18:04 pm
After some craigslisting I found a project I couldn't pass up. This DK has been at the same bar since its release and although it needs some work it's in pretty good shape (though there are a few issues I don't know how to fix yet).  Before listing some immediate work to be done I'll start with the pics...

From player 1 side:

View from the top (Note the alignment problem):

So...all in all it doesn't appear to be in horrible shape. Here are the things that have jumped out so far:

1. No sound, yikes. I have to do some research as I've never worked on a non-mame cabinet and am not sure where to begin. I've played with volume controls but can't hear a thing.

2. Vertical alignment won't stay fixed on the monitor. The screen gives a nice picture, but I can't get the vertical alignment to hold. After carefully playing with it I got to play a game to about 50k before it started moving again. Not sure if it is because I bumped it or if it just started up again, but it scrolls from side to side non-stop.

3. New joysticks. These work, but don't react the way I'd like (player 1 anyways).

4. Clean, paint, et cetera. I'll know what I'm in for after a good scrubbing, outside of the laminate I don't really have any concerns here.

If anybody has any tips or threads regarding the sound and/or monitor issues give me a shout!

Well, I'm not sure if is is good news or bad news. After doing some review online I cleaned out some of the dust in the cab. After a couple of sprays from a can of compressed air (the kind used on of motherboards) it looks a lot better. When i fired everything back up, to my surprise, now when I play wih the volume I have sound! Unfortunately it doesn't sound right. The sound feels off and the game isn't accurately recalling the right sounds. Anybody know what might be causing this?
