Title: monitor bezel out of mdf
Post by: nnndoh on September 17, 2011, 07:12:33 am: Don't know if anyone has tried it yet, but as a carpenter i can say, its easy to make one.

if you want i can put up a photo how to trace the shape of the monitor onto the wood

very easy ;)

i do not know english measurements and the names of some tools i used

But for MDF i went to the local do it yourself store where i bought 1 sheet of mdf 600 x 1200 mm , 4 mm thick
its around 5 euro's

then i meassured my display screen and added 9 mm on all the sides.
When i cutted it out i glued some support wood wich i made 5 mm angled

then with some trial and error i meassured the insides and took a piece of mdf with some over overlenght above the bezel

then i secured it with 2 little nails so i can trace the shape of the monitor on that small piece of mdf

to get a good result at the corners use this piece tfor a new one because its kinda difficult to get good meassurements from the top of the bezel to the monitor screen.

then i sanded everything smooth and rounded the sharp edges.

now ii am ready to fill any unwanted cracks and small errors, sand it again and paint it black

hope this info will help all to get the same cool result as i have

It would probably be easier if this was done with a compass. ;)

what you see on that pic was an example cause the bezel ( behind it ) was allready finished
but it has the wrong demensions for my hellomat bezel.

On your compass set the distance from your screen to where you want to draw the line. then lock the compass so that distance cant change. Then drag the metal tip along the glass and transfer the offset to the board with the pencil side.

A COMPASS SET (http://www.officeallsorts.co.uk/rotring-compass-set-6-piece-with-extension-bar-plus-ruling-pen-and-extra-bow-compass-code-s0676560) is what you use to draw a circle with and which would helpful here and A COMPASS (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000H63018/ref=asc_df_B000H630184489016/?tag=googlecouk06-21&creative=22134&creativeASIN=B000H63018&linkCode=asn) is what you use to find North which probably wouldn't ;)
