I have the exact same problem. I hope someone has some suggestions/help. Are you running Windows 98SE? I am wondering if that is the problem.

Here's a possibility i suppose. Did you remove the default entry for the rom directory. I think the default listing is e:\mame\roms. If you just added your directory and didn't delete this entry, maybe its trying to use to default directory first or something. Just a thought. I'm sure howard can shed some more light on this. You also might wanna give some more information just in case. Things like what directory your mame executable are in, where the roms are and exactly what your entries in emusaver are. I know you said you have it pointing to the roms directory, but maybe you left out something by accident or something. Also make sure that you have all the emusaver files in the correct places according to the documentation that comes with it. These are things that howard most likely need to know unless this is a problem he's run into before and already knows what causes it. It's always better to give excess information than not enough information when trouble shooting.

on a similar problem...i do have it working. but i would say about 1 out of every 20 or so, i just get the loading rom screen, and doesnt load anything. could it just be that the rom its trying to load is bad? ive run clrmame and everything checked out fine.

For me, when I go to the settings section of Windows screensavers menu--I type in the rom path and hit the "apply" button, but nothing happens. I hit the X-button in the corner to remove the menu, but when I hit settings again, nothing is in the rom path. I dont think the rom path is getting set, but not sure what else I can do. Anyone else experience this??
Any help appreciated.

nothing is supposed to visually happen when you hit apply. Also, when you bring the config screen back up, nothing will appear in the rom path. You have to scroll to see what paths have been added. Make sure you don't have multiple invalid paths or something.

Thanks Homebrew, I tried just having the one rom path and still nothing. I have the cmd-launch2.exe and the emusaver.ini in my "mame" folder which contains all my mame stuff including mame.exe, etc. and the emusaver screensaver itself appears in my windows selection of screensavers to chose, so I am not sure what else I could possibly do. Everything seems to be setup properly, it just wont launch any games. thanks for any further help. I wish Howard would jump in with some help since multiple people are having the same problem. Perhaps a bug.

Actually the emusaver.ini should be in the same directory as the the emusaver.scr(the screensaver itself). lconfig.cfg should be in the mame directory with the cmd-launch2.exe. Also when you put the emusaver.scr in the windows directory, did you right click and choose to install?

Really thats not what it said to do on the read me file.. Somebody try this Im at work right now and tell me if it works..

Which part of what i said isn't in the readme? I'm looking at the read-me right now, trust me everything i said is in there. Double check, what i said was in the first 3 steps.

i don't know what this emuSCREEN is, but i didn't write it. I did, however, write emuSAVER which will do the exact same thing. And if that is indeed what you are referring to it is in the readme blatently.

Ok here is another question. I got it working thanks alot I had to reinstall it I was missing a file. But now when it runs it comes up with the type OK and PRESS ANY BUTTON. On my Mame I have all that stuff turned off is there way to turn if off for the screen saver..? Thanks again for all the help
-
Emusaver shouldnt have any affect on those settings. You might want to double check your mame.ini file. Emusaver just sends the command to launch mame, it doesn't have any control over the ok screens.

Ok, here is the deal. I have it working to the point that it loads a rom and it plays for the designated period of time (120 seconds) after waiting the selected period of time for the screensaver and when it goes to launch another random game, it now freezes at the Loading game please wait screen. However, when I click on the mouse, it eventually does load the other game. I mame menu appears in the bottom part of the screen and the next game loads. But if I dont hit the mouse or another key, the loading game screen will stay indefinitely. Once emusaver is loaded, it does launch the next game fine when I hit escape--but if I just let the time expire and launch the next game without hitting any keys, it freezes. Any ideas?? Also, there is no way to escape the program once it starts--escape just launches another game. How do you leave the emusaver program altogether and go back to the frontend menu when escape just launches another game--control-alt-delete works, but there has to be something else.
Thanks. The screensaver is great, if I can just get it to work completely correct. I am running only a 450 mhz processor--could problems be there because of the slow processor?
